So after returning to Gaia Online, and joining this wonderful guild, I've noticed many things that generally need to be addressed.

So here it is, my opinion on what being a Game Master(GM) for an RP means to me.

When deciding to press the 'New Topic' button, quite an important button because of all the factors that you have to consider when you decide to start a new RP, you have to be dedicated in your resolution. Recently, I've seen many RPs which would-be GMs begin but never tend to follow through. More or less, they design a world for an RP but decide to leave it as it is, no plot, no story, no actual design put into the so-called Roleplay that leaves a bitter aftertaste when the audience [the roleplayers] decide to join; afterwards, the so-called GM will leave the RP that had no thought put into it and create another one. [Talk about dedication]

In my head, when I create a new Roleplay, many things are factored into my head. "Does the RP have a story?", "Is the RP interesting?" and the most important question: "Am I dedicated enough to make this RP follow through?" If you cannot answer that question in your head, then stop immediately, think it through: "Am I going to be able to keep the RP interesting?", "Do I have the personal time to spend to keep the RP interesting?", "Is this RP unique enough to be called different?". If you still can't get a "Yes" answer, then don't post your RP.

So my final words: Please, Game Masters and would-be Game Masters, please consider your dedication before you post your new RP. Being a Game Master is about making interesting stories to share with others to a point where it is interesting. You have to put your own time into the Roleplay to make sure it's enjoyable for yourself and your peers.

[Also, I'd like to add: Enough "school" RPs! There are so many of these types of Roleplays that it's beginning to get redundant, they're all the same in general. You have school, dorms [Maybe. Maybe Not], you have a description of the surroundings and... wait? no story?

Please, for every new RP that is not a school RP, you save the lives of many intelligent men. [Probably]]

For the other GMs: What does being a Game Master mean to you? Do you agree with me? Do you notice that there are a plethora of RPs that seriously need more work?

For the players: Do you find that there is a general lack of substance in many RPs in the forum?

you do have a point there are way to many school rps and good logic when it comes to being GM. I my self just started my first one so i hope my story and things makes it.

You have a point... And you probably had my RP in mind. I had a lot of thought put into it, but I failed to realize how the plot would be. I mean we have people all across the world trying to come together. Most of them found eachother, while some are still in Russia/Italy.

I should of stuck with the old RP. It was doing great (for the most part). By the way, I think I have a solution to our little problem so if you and the doctor would like to read it... Along with the rest of the gang it would be nice. ^_^

Actually, I did not intend to point fingers at any single RP. In general, I read through many different RPs just because I enjoy doing so, and find that most of them [98%] end prematurely or just overall suck in actual development.

there should be a group that will pair off people with great vision with people with great follow-through. It'd certainly make me more comfortable that my ideas wont flop because I suck at RPing. (or at least I think I do...)

Ani, you (or someone else) could run a workshop specifically for RP setups. ninja

Ahh, yes I could. But who would be interested?

I'd be interested in workshops for RP set-ups, honestly. Most of my roleplaying experiences have had little to no background at all because they usually start in the middle of things, and never reflect or tell of the past, or what happened before 'now'. And because of that, I don't really have the general idea of how I should 'summarize ten years into a paragraph' (My Roleplay takes place in 2012, so I basically have to recap on those years between 2007 and the 'present', and it's pretty much as good as it gets for the summary of it. domokun Though there's totally a lot more hero and villain roleplays in this guild. sweatdrop )

You have some really good points in there. Being dedicated to your roleplay makes it more enjoyable for you and your fellow roleplayers. Also, backgrounds make the story more reasonable, and a bit easier to follow and get.

Being a game master, to me, means that I help create a roleplaying environment for those who wish to have fun at their stay here. People shouldn't start roleplaying games unless they know what they're getting into, because it could mean a lot of stress on the players to type out all of the history and story for future use. Honestly, some of the GM's here need some 'Roleplay: Game Masters 101' (Heck, maybe even I do. I'm not afraid to admit it, though. biggrin I can be pretty unclear at times.)

Being a player, to me, means that I try and find what I want to roleplay. Roleplaying should be fun, and a place I love to post because I find the roleplay understandable and enjoyable. Game masters try and make the environment like so, and try to put it into a context that everyone understands. I do find that there is some roleplay that lacks some serious substance, but some of them are pretty well written and well done.

Sorry I can't elaborate on some things. I seriously need some sleep. I'll probably be editing this post in the morning anyways, though, because I might have missed a few things.

Well, I need to do some homework in the morning. Sayonara! ^_^

I understand people getting tired of seeing the same ole RPs, but I also think that you can't underestimate a person's desire to captain the ship themselves. In other words, a lot of people just don't care that their idea not only has been done before, but is being done right now, in the same guild that they are posting in. They just want to run their own RP and that's fine, as long as they can find people for it.

However, if I'm personally looking for an RP to join (in a magical world where I have time to do that sort of thing crying ), I'll not be joining an RP that is lacking that vitality.

Well, yeah, obviously. Everyone wants to be in the lime-light, but if you're looking for an RP with vitality you have to ask yourself if you could provide that vitality. If not, please don't razz

(Btw: I should really start RPing again)

I agree completely with what the OP is saying. Right now, I'm trying to start an rpg, but it's been up for what, a week now? And I'm still putting thoughts into how it is run. I am taking the time to make it unique, and I won't open it untill it is...

That being said, sometimes I don't have the time to be roleplaying a lot, which makes me think whether I have the time to be a GM...

But I'm trying
