The sun over head was glowing in the midst of a cloud dappled sky, burning like a ball of molten gold. The land was covered in a haze of heat, and many Soquili had flocked either to shade or watering holes. The light of the sun blared down, baking the earth dry and causing the thick green blades of the extensive fields to crack and turn vaguely golden around the edges. It was the midst of summer, hot and humid, and the few clouds over head mocked the inhabitants of the world with no promise of rain and fleeting shade.
For the young, pale Soquili male, it was little different than any other day. He had wandered out of his forest home, where he stayed with his mother, brother, and his mother’s companion, and made his way to the watering hole. At one time in his life, he stayed with his mother out of need to make her happy. She was so lonely since she had left their father behind. But now, with her new companion, Khilan realized more and more that he wasn’t needed as much. While he wanted to stay in his home, that beautiful home, he also began to realize that perhaps it was high time he tried to find a companion. After all, until now, he had been trying to satisfy the needs of his mother instead of his own.
“Silly mare,” he said with a chuckle, thinking of his mother fondly regardless of everything she had ever done. He was the perfect son, and would remain so until he drew he last breath if he could help it. With a little shake of his head, causing his blue-toned mane to flop about, he lowered his mug to the water hole and took a good drink of the crystalline liquid.

Life was Esha's fire, her honey upon which she fed. Hot, cold, windy, still, it mattered little to her. Each day was a new experience, a new adventure. She had no home and yet the world was just as good as one. She couldn't stop her wandering hooves, exploring the lands with the constant wish to wake up to a new setting each morning. She was a free spirit, and rain or shine she could be found with a warm smile.
Even in this heat she was content. She lifted her head, long bangs sticking to her face and weighing heavy on her neck. She blew a breath at the sun, as if teasing it for it's torture. She then let her eyes slide shut with a small, amused smile before continuing her walk. Her hooves brushed against the stalks of grass, causing a trail of dry, trampled plants to go off behind her into the distance. As she stopped to take a deep breath she noted the scent of water on the air. A curious flick of her ear and she turned her head. The glittering surface of water was visable not far off...
Without hesitation she picked up her tired feet and took off into an easy trot, quickly comping upon the water source and finding that she wasn't the only one seeking solace in its cool liquid.

Khilan had been staring off idly into the distance, letting his mind wander over all the thoughts that been a reoccurring menace to his usually collected mind. He had suddenly found himself in the middle of a pointless life, going in no direction and with no hope of being even vaguely interesting. He had done his duty by his mother, but what had he done thus far for himself? Very little, now that he thought the matter over, and he wondered if he had perhaps he had spent too much of his youth catering for his mother, no matter how much he adored the mare.
It had been her scent that first tickled his senses, making him aware of her even before the sound of crunching brush made his ears swivel back on his cranium. With a little frown, he furrowed his brows and glanced over his shoulder, only to be met with the rather vibrant form of a mare he had not met thus far. It wasn’t surprising, for many Soquili wandered by this water hole on their way through these lands, and she wasn’t the first he had met when straying from his nearby home.
“Hello,” he said with a smile, putting it out immediately to show there was no threat from him. He bowed his head slightly, sending the short mane wavering on his head and flopping down his neck. “I’ve not had the chance of meeting you before, “ came the voice once more, spawned with a tone of a pure gentlemen, kind and charming. He had acted thus since he was a foal, and it was unlikely to falter now.

"No, I'm afraid not," Esha agreed with a light laugh, like a low toned bell. She dropped her head in a turn bow of sorts, though it was extremely relaxed and liquid, more respectful and friendly than formal. It caused her bangs to dash over her eyes. Obviously this was a common "problem" and she was able to tilt her head slightly upon lifting it to make her twinkling eyes slightly visible again. "I hope I'm not intruding?" she asked, her voice warm and welcoming just as the shade would be on his scorching day.

He smiled softly at the way her bangs slithered over her face, though was quite affected by the twinkling glimmer that her eyes gave behind their partial obstruction. She was quite the pretty mare, one of the more attractive to make their way through this way recently. He had a feeling that such a sweet Soquili would make for nice conversation, more than his mother’s bitter attitude usually could have. She was a breath of fresh air, admittedly.
“Oh no, you’re not intruding in the slightest,” he said with a soft laugh, taking a few steps backwards to allow her more access to the small drinking pool. “I certainly don’t claim rights over something open to others,” which was the truth. Khilan saw little point in acting territorial when the land had been there before he had ever been born. He knew some herds were odd about such things, but his family was no herd, and they lived in the depths of the forest besides.
“My name is Khilan,” he said with all of that eloquent charm, “it’s a pleasure to meet you Miss - ?” He trailed off slowly, though it was a good way of getting her to offer up her name. He smiled to add an innocent demeanor to his actions.

Esha walked closer with slow, smooth steps as he moved a bit to the side. Such manners! She didn't mind them, she was just more of an informal girl-intimate with strangers just as with friends. It was just her way. She offered a smile as she lowered her head, giving a quick wink as well. "Esha. Though feel free to leave off the Miss," she replied, her voice light and warm like honey. She treated him as if this were a reunion, not a meeting. Life was so much more pleasant that way. She took in a long drink while her head was bowed, the cool liquid soothing her throat. She might not be put off by a hot day, but that didn't mean things coudn't get better.
She finally lifted her head to look at him, the tips of her bi-colored mane dripping slightly, "A pleasure to meet you, Khilan."

Khilan’s eyes widened slightly, though it was probably not as noticeable as one would think. With a weak smile, he watched her lean down so elegantly, feeling the heat rise in his face. She seemed to take up so much more space than she did, with such an overwhelming presence, and such a forward personality. It was quite unlike anything that Khilan had encountered before. The wink itself was enough to send him back a few more steps, slightly stumbling. As collected and calm as he had been raised to be, he had certainly not had someone quite so pretty purposefully flirt with him. He was used to being in control, not out of it, and he felt rather flustered. It was not something he was sure he liked a whole lot.
“Well, I can definitely just call you Esha, and it's quite the pleasure to meet you too” he said quietly, clearing his voice immediately afterwards. With a little frown, he leaned down to the edge of the pool itself, drinking a few gulps of water to wash away the lump in his throat. His own short mane was never in danger of touching the surface, and as he brought his head back up, he seemed to be a little more in control of himself.
“What brings you out this way?” he said with a little tilt of his head, trying to ignore her ‘harmless’ flirting. He was slowly adjusting to the situation.

Esha held back a laugh, turning her head away slightly as he grew a bit confused, though she still watched him, just from under dark lashes instead. She had to wonder though, how much female interaction he had had...if a little harmless wink set him off. She was only being friendly. She waited as he drank, finding it only polite as he had done the same for her. Though she didn't let her gaze wander. He held her attention, at least for the moment.
"Oh...nothing really," she replied simply, swishing her tail gently to the side in thought, "I don't really have a path of travel...I just go where ever my hooves take me. It's far more interesting that way, don't you think?" She observed him curiously, obviously wondering a few things, "Do you live here, then?"

He smiled weakly as he glanced back towards her, watching the brightly toned female with his own interest. It wasn’t that he had lacked female interaction, it was just that his gentlemanly attitude typically kept the conversation nice and polite and little to no flirting usually set in. Encountering this new persona made him a little flustered, and he wasn’t sure quite how to handle her. At least she was nice enough to keep him from being completely baffled with her.
“I suppose that would be much more interesting, but I wouldn’t know, personally,” he said with a slight frown, tilting his head at her. “I’ve never been any farther than this field and the edges of the forest over there,” he nodded his head in the direction of the tree line. “I live there, in the heart of the forest, with my mother and I always have, actually.” What was with mares suddenly showing him that he lived a sheltered life, these days? If he didn’t know any better, he’d think fate was trying to get him away from home.

Esha let her eyes widen slightly, looking surprised. Before he could do anything she moved her head forward, getting it rather close to his as if she were trying to make sure he wasn't joking. "You really are serious!" She concluded, looking rather sad at the idea. She quickly pulled her head back, her bangs getting tossed out of her face all together. Flicking an ear thoughtfully she shook her head, "I can't believe you've never gone anywhere else..."
Offering an apollogetic smile she shuffled a hoof, "I'm sorry. I know everyone isn't as travel-inclined as me...it's just...to think of all the things you haven't seen! Like the dark clouds rolling over the ocean when a storm is about to come, or the high mountain slops that try to kiss the moon..." She paused letting out a breath and then saying with feeling, "I guess I just couldn't do as you have. I'm so amazed!"

Khilan blinked as she got closer to him, then gasped slightly as she exclaimed so loudly. Was it really such a crime that he had spent his whole life here? He had done what was right by his family, he had been the son that his mother had always wanted. The perfect son – and he would never, ever regret that. In some ways, he thought that he had been the only thing that kept her together at times. He was family oriented, always careful of what happened to both his mother and his brother. Well, he still worried what happened to Cerek sometimes – he wasn’t the most careful stallion in the world.
“Well, I mean, my mother always needed someone here with her, she doesn’t have any friends really,” he shrugged it off, as if taking care of you mom as a foal was completely natural. Then with a little sigh, he glanced ack towards the forest. “Although, she has found a new male companion, and I’ve not had.. much to do since. I’m kind of directionless at the moment.” Well, directionless was just a nice way of saying ‘bored out of my mind’.
He smiled at the way she worded things, even more so at the tone in her voice. She really did love to travel, didn’t she? “You make the world sound so beautiful,” he said quietly, glancing up at the cloud-dappled sky as if to emphasize it. He did love what little he had seen of the world.

"Sounds like you're a very loving son," Esha murmured, her expression softening. It wasnt' flirtacious, it wasn't joking, instead it was genuinely warm. She had no family to speak of, but that wasn't the reason for her empathy and admiration. No, the putting oneself aside to assist others...it was something she respected very much.
But with a tilt of her head and a blink of her eyes she looked light hearted again. "But...everyone has to leave the nest sometime, don't they?" she suggested thoughtfully. Then, looking at him with an idea twinkling in her eye she said slowly, "Perhaps...it's time you got out there and saw it for yourself. There is nothing more beautiful."

“I’ve always tried to be a good son,” he said with a little smile, glancing back towards the forest. “She was kind of broken up after she left our father, and it took her a long time to get over whatever happened between them. It made my childhood a little different than most of them,” he shrugged it off though. He didn’t mind what he had done, and his mother had never really asked it of him. He just had, and that was that.
“Leave?” he said with a little blink, glancing away from the forest and back to the pretty mare. “I’ve never thought about leaving, but if mother doesn’t need me anymore..” he trailed off, furrowing his brows and glancing down at his hooves as he shifted them idly. “I don’t know if I could go out alone like that, I’ve always been around others my entire life.”

"Your mother must have been very proud," She commented. She got the impression that it had been his choice...his desire to help his family. And that was a treasure, a gift in itself. Is his mother wasn't proud, then she was missing quite a bit of what was going on around her. And it would be a sad thing, to miss the intentions of one's own son.
Esha laughed lightly, having to take a step back as she did so, shaking her head. She wouldn't even dream of making him go out all by himself...he was so wet behind the ears when it came to the world, if he had lived only in the forest. "I suppose I'm not suitable company?" she teased gently, not sounding the least bit offended, only amused.

He smiled softly and nodded, glancing at her with a little gleam in his eyes. “She’s always been proud, and thankful, because I think she would have gone insane if she had had two sons that acted like my brother,” he said with a little laugh, but he was telling the truth. Cerek drove his mother crazy more often than not, even if she loved him unconditionally. “She’s always talking about me doing my own thing these days, though.” Which, he supposed, was hint enough for him to get on with his own life finally.
“With you?” he said suddenly, feeling the lump in his throat rise again. He hadn’t thought that she was inviting him with her when she has suggest he see the world, but he definitely wasn’t going to turn her down. Who better to travel with than someone who’s spent their entire life travelling? “Of course, you’re suitable company, I just didn’t think you’d want a silly old git like myself holding you back.”
