The sky above was a dreary slate blue, almost indeterminable from the left over storm clouds stretched wide across the sky. The sun was hidden deeply behind the sheet of clouds, giving a tainted, shadowy light to the rogue lands after the fluke storm that had just rampaged through. There was lonesomeness to the dark lands at a time such as this, a chill that lingered in the air even with the mild warmth that sun managed to pour through the barrier of clouds overhead. The grounds were still slightly wet, though the typically thirsty earth had already begun to suck away the excess water, leaving little behind. Most others typically stayed clear of wandering too far on a day like this - with the exception of one lonely serval.

The dark-hued cat meandered slowly through the muck, sticking to the dryer, higher grounds but acquiring a bit of muck on the pads of his sleek little paws. His head was slightly hung, though it could easily be mistaken for the slightly depressing day, and he moved slowly in a manner that suggested he had little motivation. The deep green eyes that were once so kind, so loving, and alight with a brilliant light were now dulled. It had been a horrible few weeks since he had left the Kusini lands behind, and no matter how far he got, he still couldn’t forget the memories.

Where had Jahala gone? Pregnant with the kit he had been so ready to care for, so ready to love, and she had just up and disappeared one morning. He had been so long taking care of his mate that it was almost unreal for him to have no one to care for. He felt like life had suddenly become rather meaningless, almost like there was no purpose left in anything. He needed to get back into the way of life he had been accustomed to before he met Jahala, but he couldn’t seem to figure out how. The thrill of new lands didn’t exist as strongly as it had before.

He sighed and stopped as he came across a large granite slab settled in the midst of a field of large savannah grass. He clambered up slowly onto the irregularly shaped rock, settling his limbs into a sitting position, and began to slowly examine the sky. She was out there somewhere, he was sure, beneath the same expanse of heavens. He hoped, at least, that she was alright. If she couldn’t find it in her heart to stay with him, then he hoped that she had at least learned enough to take care of herself.

(( *Response to PM* sweatdrop Meh, it sucks when someone who's important to your plottage poofs and never comes back. *Pets your poor boy* smile Hopefully Moyo can cheer him up. Because she's a familiar, I'm not actively looking for a mate for her, but that doesn't mean my mind is closed to the possibility. I ended up finding a mate for my Jackal and breeding him, so the same could happen here if we found that these two were a nice match. ))

Not far from where the dark serval eventually settled, a rather bright serval was attempting to make her way through the mud without messing up her fine white coat. Her dainty blue paws were already brown with dirt, but then, that could hardly be helped. As long as the majority of her stayed clean, she was happy.

Still failing to notice the male, as his dark coat blended well with the rock he was sat on, she kept looking up at the sky as if she was waiting for something. Since it had rained heavily, she was hoping the sun would come out soon. Although she quite liked the rain, she didn't like the dismal shadow that the dark clouds cast over the land. "I know you're up there Mr Sun!" She chimed, followed by a playful giggle. This particular serval often found herself talking to things that could not talk back, and it amused her to no end.

[[Well, I only asked because I like role-playing and mating everything I own, haha. I suppose, though, with all of the pets you have it may be a little hard for you to give them all a lot of attention. I especially wanted to mate Ahmmy, because there are so few servals, and I think it’s a real shame. They have such gorgeous lineart.]]

If Ahmadas had been paying a little more attention to his surrounding and what exactly was going on, he was sure he would have at least seen the brightly colored serval making her way in his general direction. Had she been colored more like himself, it would have perhaps been slightly more understandable. Sadly, it must have just been his lack of attention for anything that did it – or perhaps he was just too busy staring up at the dreary expanse of heavens above him. Either way, it was with surprise that he heard her voice, and his little ears swiveled back on his skull almost immediately.

Almost immediately, he felt his heart sink again. The words and that tone of voice, it was something that he would have expected of Jahala. She was always so silly, so sweet, so carefree. Regardless, he wasn’t going to let the thoughts of her ruin his chance at meeting one of the few servals that had ever crossed his path. Besides, making a new friend might be a good way to get his poor mind off of his troubled thoughts.

“Oh, he’s up there,” he said with a small smile spread across his dark maw, “but I think he’s being lazy today.” He ended his words with a small chuckle, although it was not quite heart-felt. He was attempting to bring up his usual persona, but it seemed that it was merely a good ghost of what it used to be.

(( heart All but 2 of my breedings so far have been with mated couples. I'd only breed with a non-mated couple (or random rogue) if that was what the character/plot called for. Like you say, because I have so many it can be hard to give them all attention, so familiars tend to come at the bottom. whee I'd like for Moyo to have a mate at some point, but I wouldn't have actively started seeking until I was more organised with my proper SoAs. But saying that, even though I listed her in my journal as inactive, I'm more than happy to RP with those like yourself who actually want RP. So although I'm not seeking RP/a mate for her, that doesn't mean I'm not open to it. smile ))

Much like Ahmadas' ears had done when he had heard her voice, Moyo'nyau's ears rolled around on her head when she heard his. She looked around, wondering where the voice had come from. When her eyes finally fell upon the dark male, she giggled. "I almost didn't see you there!" Saying that, she continued to carefully make her way across the soggy ground, until she eventually reached the rock that Ahmadas was sat on.

She quickly jumped up to join him and sat herself down right in front of him, apparently unaware of personal space. Grinning, she looked up at the sky, happy to continue the dark serval's little joke. "Do you think if we keep yelling at him he'll show himself?" This was only the second serval Moyo'nyau had ever met, and considering how playful the last one was, she was hoping this one would be the same.

[[I've never done a rogue breeding, actually. All of mine have been mated. I suppose whatever happens happens though. Maybe they'll just end up being too cute together, and you won't have a choice but to do it? Haha. I can hope.]]

“That’s perfectly understandable,” he said with a weak little smile, his dark tail flickering behind him in a manner that would remind one much of a snake. He shifted slightly on the rock to give her more room, moving more to the side than the middle that he had originally occupied. “I’m dark, the rock is dark, the day is dark – I’d say I blend in pretty well, don’t you?” he managed a smirk, a truly amused, lopsided sort of mixture of a grin. He always found his mood to be bettered slightly when around someone else. Being along for the last few weeks was more than depressing.

He did chuckle, however, as she spoke her next words, turning his attention away from her bright pelt and up instead to the clouds and the hidden sun that they were addressing. “Well, it wouldn’t hurt to try, right?” he said with a little quirk of his eyebrow, shifting his paws idly beneath him. “After all, what’s the most he’ll do, hide some more?” He chuckled again, thought the mirth never quite reached those emerald eyes.

Regardless, he narrowed his eyes on a particularly bright section of clouds where he assumed the bandit was hiding, and let his voice ring out, “Hey, the little lady wants some sunshine!” He tilted his head, ear cocked slightly towards the sky as if he were awaiting an answer. Then he sighed dramatically and shook his head, glancing back to her. “No luck, maybe you should try?”

(( xp The one rogue breeding I did was with my leopard. She isn't exactly the Virgin Mary, so it made sense for her to eventually get pregnant by some random rogue during a one-nighter. smile For a character like that, a random breeding made more sense than her settling down with a mate. xd

:B heart Ahmadas seems happier already. *Pets him* ))

Having sat herself down, Moyo'nyau curled her stripey tail around her legs, as it had a tendency to flick quickly from side to side whenever she was very happy or excited. Not wanting to scare the male away with her entusiasm, she thought it best to keep her wagging to a minimum. "Oh yes, definatly!" She said with a firm nod. "I bet you're really good at hide and seek!"

Giggling, she shook her head at his next question, waiting to see if he would yell at the sun. She had found that others weren't as eager as her to talk to the sun or the flowers, or anything like that, yet this male seemed more than happy to play along. It was pleasing to say the least.

"You're so funny!" She laughed, purring a little as she did so. "Ok, my turn!" Grinning, she looked up at the sky and took in a deep breath before shouting as loud as she could. "Pleeeeeeeeeeaaaaaasse come out Mr Sun! If we were to play hide and seek, my new friend would win so easily! I need your help to see him better!" Still smiling, she looked back down towards the dark male. "Now we wait!"

[[Oh, well, as long as it's in the plot, that's all that matters right?

And yes he is, but that's probably becuase Moyo acts a lot like his mate. He always adored that silly sort of attitude that Moyo and Jahala both seem to have. She makes him smile, I guess, without meaning to.]]

He smiled softly as she said that, but only ended up shrugging his shoulders at the thought. “I don’t think I’ve ever really tried to play hide and seek,” he said with a little tilt of his. He had grown up mostly alone, without a family, and he had never had many friends due to all of his travels. It ultimately had made him more sensible, more wise, but it had left the fun department in lacking. Jahala had shown him that, and that’s what he missed so terribly. This new serval seemed to be able to show him a little of what it used to feel like. It wasn’t until now that he realized he had missed that goofy, carefree way that he could talk to Jahala – he never talked to anyone else that way.

“Well, I suppose we should give Mr. Sun a little while to decide?” he said with a little quirk of his brow, though he did flash a glance up at the sun. He could see a break in the clouds on the horizon, although it might take it a while for the sky to clear properly of clouds. If he kept her talking, he might just be able to let her have her sunshine.

“My name is Ahmadas, by the way,” he said with a little nod of his head, the smile lingering there weakly, but lingering none-the-less. Maybe a little nonsense was just what he needed today to pick his spirits up.

(( *Nods* smile Indeedy. xp I'd never breed just for the sake of it, which is why some of my SoAs will never have offspring, as it wouldn't fit with their personality. Saying that though, if a really good plot came along, that could change. surprised Nothing should ever be set in stone where RP is concerned.

o.o Who actually owns his mate? *Is curious to know who poofed* ))

Moyo'nyau looked almost startled at the fact that this male had never played hide and seek. "It's a really fun game!" She chimed. "And like I said, I bet you would be really good at it!" At Ahmadas' suggestion to give the Sun some time, she nodded in agreement, before smiling warmly. "My name is Moyo'nyau. Pleased to meet you!"

Curious as ever, she looked around, wondering if her new friend was all alone or if he had a travelling companion somewhere nearby. She decided not to pry though, as that was another thing she had found that others didn't like very much. Instead, she turned back to the male, a constant smile still on her face. "So...ummm...what are you doing around here?"

[[Yeah, I've never liked it when people have said things were just impossible. I think given the right situation and the right plot, a lot of things are possible that didn't seem to be. Not all of them, mind you, but a lot.

xMMx or Emmylicious. Depends on what you know her by. She had the only other female serval that I actually ever saw. Haha.]]

He laughed weakly at her insistence, shaking his head with a little smile lingering on his maw. He didn’t doubt that the game was fun, but being that he had grown up alone, who in the world was he supposed to play hide and seek with? On top of that, he had never really felt the urge to play the game as an adult. Of course, he had seen cubs at it and knew pretty much what it was about. “I suppose I would, as long as there was a dark place to hide, or lots of shadows,” he said with a small smirk, flickering his tail idly against his paws.

“It’s quite the pleasure to meet you too, Moyo’Nyau,” he said with a little nod, watching her silently for a moment. She certainly did act a lot like his precious Jahala – although, Jahala was admittedly more slow than he thought this pretty little lady was. She seemed to have a few more wits about her.

“Here?” he said quietly, lifting his eyes to the gloomy lands that surrounded the little pair. Well, he believed these were the southlands, but he had been so in and out of it thus far that he wasn’t entirely sure just how far he had gotten into them. Well, he supposed he could never be truly lost, not with all his knowledge of the lands that he gathered before settling down. He blinked, seemingly remembering that he was talking to her, and glanced back to her slowly. “Just running from the past,” he said quietly, the mirth leaking slowly from those dull, but beautiful emerald eyes.

(( smile Like you say, servals have pretty lines. I'm surprised there's not more of them running around. xd Moyo is a cosplay of Mitzi from Animal Crossing Wild World, just because I wanted a Mitzi cosplay but didn't want to pay a lot for one. ))

Up until now, the rather naive serval had remained completely oblivious to the half-heartedness in Ahmadas' smiles, and the weakness in his laughs. The fact that he was running from his past seemed like a definate cause for concern. "How come?" Moyo'nyau tilted her head, forgetting all previous conversation so that she may focus on the dark male's last statement.

Her smile faded slightly, replaced by a rather worried look. Although she had only just met this male, she hated the idea of anyone being upset, and she hoped that she could help him.

[[They really do have pretty lines, but I don't think many people have seen them. That could be why they're never customed. That, and some other familiars are much more popular.

I was just lucky and won Ahmadas in those nifty October letters that Dusty used to do. He was fully customizable, but I told Dusty she could do whatever she wanted with him because she was swamped at the time. heart ]]

He laughed softly and turned his head away for a moment, deep green eyes squinted slightly at his paws. It was odd to be having this conversation with someone he just met and he wasn’t entirely sure that he was ready to start talking about it to begin with. However, he knew what bottling things up did to the heart, and he knew he would eventually have to tell someone. Syeira would have been a good ear to spin the tale upon, but he had just fled the Kusini lands and would not be going back any time soon. How long would it be before there was someone to listen again?

“I..” he began, trailing off as the words eluded him. He sighed gently, tail flickering, trying to form just how to say this. “My mate left,” he said quietly, staring down at the mucky ground surrounding the boulder they both perched on, “and she was pregnant.” He avoided looking at her eyes, knowing that the sympathy there would be enough to make him feel even worse. Sympathy and concern usually only made him feel weaker, less in control of what was happening. If he didn’t see it, he could continue eluding himself, convincing himself that everything would be alright.

He glanced up slowly at the sky, ears swiveling back on his cranium as he did so. It would only be a while longer before the mass of clouds passed and revealed the patch of empty sky. Maybe that would lift his spirits as much it would hers.

(( xd Maned Wolves seem to be the most popular, but my fave familiar types are Jackals and Servals. ))

Moyo'nyau softly bit the bottom of her mouth as she listened, a concerned look still on her face. It was soon replaced with a look of sympathy, just as Ahmadas had feared it would. Although her eyes were dim and black, they flickered with much emotion. Having never found a mate of her own, she couldn't quite grasp what her new friend must be going through. It was obvious how much it hurt though, especially considering he must now be a father, yet he's never even seen his kitten.

"I'm so sorry..." She said finally, after a long pause in which she tried to think of what to say. In reality, there wasn't anything she could say that would make this situation any better. Her ears drooped slightly as she felt completely unable to help him, no matter how much she wanted to.

[[Servals are one of my favorites, and although maned wolves are popular, I don't like them nearly as much. I like the water bucks, though, they're totally cute.]]

He smiled weakly as he heard her words, his ears slightly drooped regardless. He knew this had ruined the happy mood between them, but she had asked and he saw no reason to lie to her about it. He had wanted it off of his chest and he felt a little guilty about ruining her mood and unloading such a problem onto her. Regardless, to know that it was out in the air like that, in the open where it could have air to breathe and recover, he felt a little better. Just listening had been good enough help from her, whether she knew it or not. It was a silly thing, to feel so much better from simply talking and to a stranger at that, but he felt like a little piece of the lead weight had been chipped away from his heart. Maybe this rainy day and her little bit of sunshine had been just what he needed.

“Don’t be sorry,” he said quietly, glancing up towards her with eyes that would have been beautiful had they not been so dulled by pain, “there’s nothing to be done. I have to swallow the pain and try to move on, because that’s the only thing I can do.” He shrugged softly, turning his eyes upward slowly to watch the edge of the stormy-toned clouds drifting towards them. Any moment now they would pass overhead and splash the little pair into sunlight.

“You shouldn’t look so sad,” he said with his best attempt at cheerfulness, “you’re too pretty to frown. Besides, the sun finally came to play.” As the last words drifted from his mouth, the clouds cleared over their heads, leaving behind a beautiful clear sky that danced with the radiance of the sun’s sudden exposure. He smiled, his dark pelt washed in the warmth of the sunlight, though he still looked like a shadow in the middle of the rays of the sun.

Moyo'nyau forced a smile and shook her head lightly. "I'm not very good with words." She confessed sheepishly. "I just wanted to at least try and help." As she said that, she noticed that Ahmadas did seem a bit better, although not by much. Perhaps all he had needed was someone who would listen, in which case the brightly-coloured female had been of help after all.

At the compliment that followed, Moyo'nyau's smile grew considerably. No one had ever said she was pretty before, well, no one except her parents. "Thank you!" She beamed, finally allowing her tail to loosen from around her legs so that it could flick happily from side to side. The fact that the sun had just come out made things even better. As she smiled up at the sun, she purred contently, happy to be once again bathed in the sun's light. When she turned back to Ahmadas, she let out a little giggle. "Mr Sun is the best when it comes to cheering others up."

“You listened,” he said with a small smile, albeit weak as it was. He turned to glance at her, shifting his paws beneath him as he did so. “You’re the first one I’ve told, and you listened, so that was enough help,” he said as he nodded, as if confirming it to himself. Even if it had refreshed the pain somewhat, it still felt good to get it off of his chest, to toss away the weight. She had done that small thing for him, at least.

“Yes, he really is the best at cheering people up,” he said with a small chuckle. He pushed himself up to his feet, stretching out slowly to work the cramps out of the muscles that had stayed dormant so long. With a little frown up towards the sky, he squinted his eyes at the blare of the sun. What were they to do now that they had coaxed the elusive sun god from his hiding place?

“So where are you headed?” he asked calmly, letting his tail sway behind him slowly. Maybe if she was going somewhere nearby, he could walk her there before he had to start his lonely, nomadic wandering once more.
