I'm not even going to bother posting a spoiler warning. These are the completely incoherent notes while I watch 3.02.

Wooh! Opening is the same as always.
After the review of the last episode, we see Zuko in bed, being angsty (Not to be out-angsted by the Avatar, you know.) He goes to the prison tower, and gets scared away by the guard. Wooh!
Talking cloud says what? Sokka bitches out Aang. Points out enemy birds. Faceplants.
They decide that cavepersonism is not for them. Momo seems to be the only one who likes bugs, surprisingly.
Katara is quick to klepto the clothing off the rack. Sokka has trouble finding his size?
Toph long distance kicks Sokka in the face.
Kataang moment that mimics the one with the necklace. They all get fitted with fire nation accessories that resemble those they normally wear.
Aang is a vegetarian and needs to be cured. Where's Hambo when you need him? (Weebl and Bob reference.)
Ooh. Aang is busted for playing hooky. Naughty, naughty. Bad etiquette, too. From now on, he shall be known as "Slob." Lookie. Aang's made a new girlfriend. Anji.... is... that... guy's.... girlfriend. Aang... has... reached... Sokka-like... pimp... status...
They play "Hide and Explode?"
Sokka doesn't seem to like school all that much.
Ooh, some more Zuko angst. He goes to visit Iroh. Zuko is such a b***h. It makes me sad.
Commercial break includes a scary ad for little girl's trading card games.
Aang is a talented noodle-artist. Sokka agrees. Apparently, Sokka is a secret-river lover.
Zuko is awful to Iroh. Just horrid. He makes me want to punch an infant.
Aang doesn't know the oath of the Fire Nation. He should have just been quiet. Aang also speaks out in class. Just be quiet.
Apparently the Fire Nation has various objects shoved up their asses, and they don't know how to dance. VE MUST CONTROL OUR BODIES. NO DANCING!
Aang takes out a Fire Nation kiddo by dodging him. Gets busted. O.o
Gets called to the office. He should just say that he's an orphan and be done with it. Sokka has a horrible naming sense. "Wang Fire" and "Sapphire Fire"? What the ******** hell? (Seira sat through a talk like this in elementary school.)
Apparently the Fire Nation likes corporal punishment. S&M much?

It was funny, and yet saddened me at the same time. At least now we can call Mai emo. Zuko, too.
Azula is rude to Iroh. Zuko is an idiot. Azula is a b***h. Zuko can't tell. What's she up to? Gosh, Dum-dum, you should know better.
Sokka seems to be fond of his beard. Sokka is normal? Hahah. Tokka giggle.
Aang throws a dance party to celebrate the "art of fancy footwork." First noodles, now footwork? Who knew he was such an artist at heart?
The Fire Nation kids are prudes. Damn, that guy looks like Foamy. Pay attention to him, because I'm sure he's just going to burst into Foam any second now. Taang.
Zuko is nicer to Iroh. Thank you, Zuko. ********? What the hell? Goddamnit, you don't make Iroh cry. Just, no.
That's how they do it, yo'. Katara is jealous. Ooohhh. Their feet are happy. FOAMY #2 FREESTYLE! Ack. Kataang dance. This goes on for way too long, but is choreographed really well. Way to go, Korean animators! Teehee. They look like chickens.
Uh oh. Party gets busted by a group with large sticks up their asses. o.o
Wooh! Fooled you, Fire Nation soldiers! Way to go Aang! You extracted the materials out of some of those kids' asses.
Sokka has a moustache permanently glued to his skin.
Kataang. Tokka. Taang.
Ooh. Cool eye tattoo!
And the preview for the next episode, "The Painted Lady."
Someone gets sick. They need the painted lady's help. Apparently, she's a Water bender. O.o?
And the swamp skiing short!
In ship-tastic retrospect:
This contained so many ships. Maiko, Slatara (SlobxKatara, as it shall so be named), Sloph (SlobxToph), Tokka, Aangji, Maiko, and a tiny pinch of Maiko. O.o
Not as bad as the last one, but there have been better episodes.
Blushy Mai just doesn't do it for me. >.<

Hehe, love the running commentary. I can't type and watch. I take notes on a piece of paper madly at the commercial breaks, then as soon as it's over I go downstairs to the computer and type them out.
What do you think of the Mai-Azula look there? I am on the fence about it. I really want to believe that it's a "I'm watching you, don't touch my BFF Zuko," look, I think that'd fit better with the general story. However, I am paranoid.
And as far as the 'helping Ty Lee' thing, I think that's Azula-speak for, "Go away, I wanna talk to Zuko." Mai... is interesting. I'm not sure what to think. I mean, is she completely obedient of Azula? I had this picture in my mind of her of someone who'd easily turn on Azula if it was the smart thing to do. I think that's what it is here, it's not an opportune moment to say no. It's not going to kill her if she's apart from Zuko for a moment, and it's better to stay on Azula's side at the moment. If she DOES intend to help Zuko, she doesn't want any suspicion on her right now.
I dunno. I want to believe it, and I think it SHOULD be that way, and I think it would be horribly cliched for Mai to be only helping Azula and it would reduce her to a 2D crony, but at the same time I KNOW that it's possible, and I KNOW not to take anything for granted in stories.

Hah. I watch it through once, then review it on my DVR and pause it to type.
I paused it at the whole "Mai - Azula" look. It's a pretty interesting screenshot. I personally believe that it would make for a better storyline if Mai was leading Zuko on. I mean, comeon. It might make Zuko realize once and for all that Azula is not a nice person.
I don't think there's any way we can tell right now. The only thing I can say is that they didn't really put much emphasis on the glance. (Unlike that whole deal in Ba Sing Se, where they zoomed in on Azula's eye when she was infiltrating the Earth Palace.) Other than that, the only thing we can do is wait and see. biggrin

I don't think that Mai actually being on Azula's side would be good for the general story quality. I would hate, hate, HATE it if they reduced Mai to the bored gothy girl who Azula orders around, and likewise, if they reduced Ty lee to the happy ditzy girl who Azula orders around. I mean, to just leave them so 2D like that... it would be so disappointing. They've added at least ONE layer to nearly every other major character, something that makes you wonder, "What are they thinking?"
I think that Azula ordering Mai to manipulate Zuko will be a storyline, inevitably. BUT. There needs to be some inner-Mai-conflict, or something. Y'know, forced to choose between Zuko and Azula... I don't mind at all if that's a story line that's put into play, in fact, I'm COUNTING on it and looking forward to it. It would be a disappointment if they DIDN'T do that storyline. HOWEVER. Mai's reaction is the thing that hinges on that storyline being good or horrible. If she just follow what Azula says robotically and doesn't think twice about it or whatever, it would suck. They'd basically be saying, "Yep, everyone is what they seem." I would even be satisfied if Mai DID eventually choose Azula's side, as long as there was some inner conflict over it.

Maybe Mai is complying with Azula now, later when she is faced with a decision she will choose Zuko. I hope so at least. Come on, she doesn't hate him! That is saying a lot. xd Even though she is loyal to Azula, she doesn't always go along with the plan... at least when she isn't staring directly into the eyes of evil.

I prefer Zutara, but seeing as how I ship Maiko nearly as rabidly as Tokka, Kataang is my 'okay, everything is going to plan' ship.
