The hard-packed earth is full of people from all over the country, all gathered here under the heavy sun to browse through the open-air market.

Stalls and shabby lean-to booths are set up in no apparent order, selling everything from hot meat pies to swords to gardening tools. Merchants can be heard haggling over prices and calling out their wares to passerby, and street urchins run amok through the crowd, stealing from merchants and buyers alike.

At the well in the center of the market, minstrels play for a few meager coins, and travellers stop to water their mounts and exchange news. Small children, chased by their guardians, run up and toss savings into the well, pausing to make a wish only to be caught and dragged back home by their loved one.

Bronwyn paced back and forth through the market with a sigh, wondering what on earth she was waiting around for. It was nearly noon, and the market was full of screaming people and annoyed animals. She stopped by the well and listened in, hoping to get some news. Voices drifted in and out as people moved all around her.

"...was stolen yesterday." An elderly merchant was telling a grizzled old woman with three tots playing nearby. "No one saw anything of the thief, and mark my words, things are only going to get worse from here."

"But what about..."

"...and then the wagon wheel broke. Thank god the bandits didn't..."

"...get back here, you mangy cur! I'm gonna..."

"...what did she say?"

"Nothing. She disappeared right after stabbing him. Some sort of guild uprising, apparently..."

Bronwyn gave a sigh and opened her eyes again. Still no sign of the person she was waiting for. Inwardly, she cursed Marian and her shady contacts. With another sigh, she leaned against the well and waited. Marian had given the contact her description, so now all she had to do was wait...

Salyf ran through the streets, bumping into this person and that. "Excuse me. Pardon. Sorry. Sthas, are you sure she hasn't left yet? I don't see her. Besides, what's the meeting for again?" Sthas gave her master an annoyed look, if a snake could. Salyf abruptly started to walk, causing Sthas to tighten her grip. "Whatever. I'm getting something to eat." She stopped by a stand selling meatpies and bought four. As she waited for them to appear, she looked around her. There was some unoccupied shade nearby a well, perfect for catching some gossip. "We're in for some luck today, huh Sthas?" Sthas answered by withdrawing into the pouch that hung around Salyf's back. Shrugging, Salyf collected her meatpies and sat in the shade of the wall.

Bronwyn glanced up at the sky and gave a sigh. The hell with this. She thought, standing up. What on earth would a storekeep know about the uprising anyway? She stepped away from the well and started heading out of the marketplace, looking for something cool to drink. She evaded a pickpocket with practiced ease and passed the meat pie seller without a second glance.

Unnoticed by the preoccupied woman, a pair of figures detached from a nearby shadow in pursuit. A glint of silver could be seen as the smaller of the two figures fingered a dagger.

Bronwyn, apparently unaware of the followers, strode around the corner of a nearby merchant's building and headed into the dark alleyway. The two figures paused briefly, exchanging a look before following.

Before Salyf could dig in, she saw the brief flash of sunlight hit her eyes, and then two figures darting after a woman. Salyf wondered if it was just another pair of pickpockets before stowing the meat pies in one of her many pouches as she ran after them.

[Multi-Location Post:Red Goblet+City Markets]

The back door of the Red Goblet clanked closed behind her savior, a wisp of smoke swirled out of the deep doorway and drooped to the ground, splashing out in a slow, overly dramatic fashion. May'a leaned against the wall a few feet from the splash, contemplating what to do. He seems safe she thought to herself And his kind might be able to help me she unconsciously rubbed over her arm where the lines had been before, strings of emerald green clung to her hand as she pulled it away, they snapped and fell back to her arm, she would need to find a wash room soon no matter what she did.

Someone turned down the far end of the ally, May'a snapped out of her thoughts and back the the world. Luckily a large trash bin hid her, and the door Mahna had passed through. Before she could consider what to do a pair followed the first into the ally and she started towards the door. Opening it as quietly as possible she slid inside and pulled it shut again.

Bronwyn hesitated a she felt a surge of magic ahead of her in the alleyway. The back door she'd been heading for shut quietly as someone slipped inside. She moved forward to investigate when she heard the unmistakable scuffle of a boot behind her. Inwardly cursing her carelessness she spun around as one of the two men behind her lunged forward to knock her against the wall.

Her back slammed against the dirty brick wall, and her head also bumped although not as hard. The taller of the two men grabbed her by the throat, lifted her up on her tiptoes and started to squeeze.

"We've had enough of you poking into Guild business, little girl." He growled. Bronwyn coughed, trying desparately to get some air into her lungs. She grabbed the man's thick wrist with one hand, trying to keep from choking herself with her own bodyweight. The man was doing a fine job without her help. Her free hand grasped desparately at her belt, looking for a weapon of some sort. Spots danced before her eyes and Bronwyn dully wondered if she had survived countless battles with creatures and magic most people only dreamt of, only to be done in by a pair of dirty thugs.

Ebony flittered around the market looking for things small enough to carry home to the village when she noticed a girl dash into a back ally. Ebony's curiosity got the better of her and she chased the girl.

"... poking into Guild..." a man said, choking the woman Salyf saw earlier. What they were talking about, she had no idea. Thinking of a way to help the woman, she accidentally kicked a pebble to the other wall. The noise wasn't loud, but the it was enough to make the other man turned around to see her peeking around the corner. "Oh shi- three of clubs." Salyf hastily activated her card power to blend in with the wall, somewhat invisible.

As the man approached the corner Salyf tried desperately to quiet her breathing, but he was able to nick a bit of her left arm anyways, drawing a tiny bit of blood. Unfortunately for Salyf, her three of clubs didn't conceal the small cut. Succeeding in finding her, the man tried slashing her again, until she too was in the alleyway, in between the two men. For a split second, Salyf debated which one to attack, then the other man charged at her. With the little light, Salyf had more invisibility on her side and hit the thug attacking her in the sides with one of her sheathed swords. The man suffocating the woman had already noticed a while ago. Salyf hoped that helping the woman was worth it.

The spots in her vision started connecting, as Bronwyn's hand touched the heavy brass compass at her belt. She grabbed it and swung it at the man's head as he turned away from her for a moment, distracted by something farther down the alleyway. The glass over the front of the compass shattered on the man's skull, and the thug jerked, releasing her throat reflexively. Bronwyn dropped to the ground, landing hard on her hands and knees. Coughing, she grabbed her bootknife and stabbed the man's foot. He howled and reached down to pull the knife out of his foot. Bronwyn scrambled out from underneath him, and stood up shakily several feet away, still coughing and gasping. Twice, she tried to pull some magic out of the air for a offensive spell of some sort, and was interrupted by a bout of coughing both times.

With a roar, the thug pulled out the knife and turned rage-filled eyes toward Bronwyn, holding the bloody knife loose in one hand, as though he knew how to use it.

"Whoa." Salyf cautioned, not wanting to draw either sword. Her ears pricked at the sound of rustling, smelling the sweet scent of magic. She turned to see what it was, leaving herself open. Naturally, the man kicked her right then in the stomach. Using her sword as a support, she whipped out her other one, unsheathed, and was about to attack, when she saw the other man charging. Could she make it in time? As the man that she had knocked down got ready to strike, Salyf rolled away, closer to the woman this time, though not close enough.

Bronwyn suddenly became aware of another person in the alleyway. A woman, it seemed, had come to her rescue. She glanced back at the man who had been choking her earlier as he moved forward, intending to charge her.

She stumbled back a step and took a deep breath. With a hoarse cry, she threw her hand forward towards the man. Her attacker flew backwards with the force of her spell to crash into his companion, who was about to attack the other woman. Bronwyn sagged against the wall again as her vision started to blacken once more. Dimly, she heard the two men scrambling and cursing. She took several deep breaths, fighting the ache in her body and the tiredness in her limbs that told her she shouldn't've cast that spell in the state she was in.

Salyf blinked in surprise as the men were sent flying. As they retreated, she walked over to the woman. "You alright?" Some part of her instincts told her that this woman wasn't randomly attacked, but there was a reason, the other part told her that she couldn't just leave someone hurt by themselves. "What were those thugs after anyways?"

Bronwyn blinked a few times, trying to push away the comforting blackness and looked up at the owner of the voice.

"Loose change, probably." She said, her voice rough. Bracing herself against the wall, she slowly stood up, every muscle in her body aching. "I thank you for your help." She said when she finally regained her footing. "Normally I would be a fair match for them, but I was distracted." She leaned heavily against the wall to remain upright. "Gotta love Rinon." She muttered. Her eyes rested on the twisted piece of metal on the ground that had been her compass, and she felt a brief pang of loss at the instrument that had saved her life so many times. She gave a sigh and looked back at the woman, noticing for the first time she was not a human under the hood. She was a Korat.

"Where are you headed?"

"Uh..." Salyf wasn't expecting that sort of question, and was lost of words for a few seconds. Taking a deep breath, she started over. "Well, I thought I would explore the city before actually going anywhere. But to answer your question, I don't have a destination, or not yet."
