Toshiro - Toshiro is one of Shen-ru's dearest friends. He feels a very, very strong bond to Toshiro, and spends as much time as he can with the other whenever they are close enough. He cannot wait for Toshiro to be finished with his training, so he may perhaps take the other traveling with him.
Tingzhe -Now that Shen-Ru has been integrated into the circus, and has gotten to know Tingzhe and others, he feels as though Tingzhe is one of his best friends, and perhaps feels a hint of something more. But these emotions must be put on hold, as Tingzhe has gone off to find himself, and Shen-ru calmly waits for him to return.
Alya - The little Airbender and the only girl present at the kidnapping. Shen-Ru trusts her as well and feels an odd will to protect her, probably because she's so innocent and young compared to most of those he has been around. He has not heard from her since the kidnapping, and worries for her.
Qiao - Shen-Ru has come to adore Qiao, quite simply, finding her as one of his best friends and loving to spend time with her - normally doing things with her that would be considered feminine, such as shopping or gossiping and sewing.
FamilyYao Baojia - Shen-Ru's father, and a very family-oriented man. He loves his son dearly, and was heartbroken to find him missing and relieved to have him returned, giving his son all the love and attention he could. He's a genial, attractive man, in his late 30s, who tries to ignore all the things his wife does behind his back.
Yao Hsui Mei - Shen-Ru's spoiled and childish mother. She acts as though she isn't even in the marriage she was pressed into at a young age, acting as the teenager she previously wasn't allowed to be because of her wedding and pregnancy. She's prone to temper tantrums and wants things to go her way as soon as she asks for something, and is willing to do nearly whatever it takes to get what she desires.
Zhu Lei - Shen-Ru's most honored uncle. He is a retired soldier, having left the military because of a damaged leg, leading to him now walking with a limp and a cane. He was the one who taught the art of hiaku to his nephew.
