Residence: Hiyama, Capitcal City of the Fire Nation
Personality: [RENOVATING] Initially, Suyin comes off as a normal, if only slightly eccentric, young girl. Like nearly everyone native to the Fire Nation, she has a combination of arrogance, determination, and pride, mostly because of who her father is. Growing up in one of the higher levels of Hiyama, the eleven-year-old definitely recognizes the fame and wealth her father holds. She is extremely proud of this fact and touts it around, telling anyone that will listen to her that she is the daughter Cheng Huo, and one day she is going to be just as skilled and well-known as him.
Of course, those who think of her as “normal” quickly change their opinion once they have spent a little more time with her. In fact, it changes rather drastically. Suyin is far from normal. The girl is completely and utterly obsessed with explosives…and blowing things up. Entertaining and hostile explosives alike, she wants to know everything about their function. Some of the folks of Hiyama have forbid their children from talking with her because of her tendency to gift them with minor bombs for pranking purposes. She makes them herself and is known to carry at least a few on her person at all times.
When she’s not having happy fun with fire, Suyin is a loud, energetic, and colorful girl, almost as if she was a personification of the fireworks she loves. Much preferring to roughhouse with the boys, she hates when people tell her to sit down and do something boring, such as reading or writing. Her literary skills suffer because of this, but she’s not completely stupid. She’s also slightly dense in the way of not knowing when to shut up. She’s gotten in trouble countless times for back mouthing an adult; she had silently vowed to blow up and each and every one of their houses.
Appearance: [RENOVATING] As a whole, Suyin has a fairly average appearance for an eleven-year-old female hailing from the Fire Nation, with few significant differences. She’s slightly tall and skinny for her age, and like most Fire Nation natives, her skin is pale, though her arms are dotted with small burn scars from numerous accidents. Her hair is black and kept short, much to the disappointment of Suyin’s mother. She refuses to let it grow out, however, as she learned at an early age that the longer the hair, the more likely it is to catch fire. Plus, she’s far too impatient to put her hair up every time she wants to help her father in his workshop. Her eyes are a dark amber color.
Suyin’s wardrobe resembles that of a typical eleven-year-old boy rather than a girl. What ever she wears usually has at least one burnt spot on it, but never baggy or dangling. She absolutely despises wearing dresses and will cause quite the fuss whenever her mother tries to stuff her into one.
Family: [RENOVATING] Cheng Huo, Father - Suyin is extremely close to her father. She adores him, practically worships the ground he walks on, and aspires to be everything he is. Likewise, the man obviously loves his daughter just as much and will do almost anything to ensure her happiness. Though his job as a firework maker is decidedly risky, Cheng doesn’t seem to worry at all that his young daughter expresses genuine interest in the family business. Instead, he seems to encourage it, oftentimes allowing Suyin to aide him in his workshop.
Li Ling Huo, Mother - Suyin’s mother and Cheng‘s wife and business partner (she orders supplies and handles the monetary transactions with customers), is much more aware of her daughter’s safety. Constantly fretting over her daughter, she greatly over-exaggerates the severity of any small burn Suyin gets, hoping it will cause the young girl to realize how dangerous Cheng’s job is and dissuade her from pursuing it. Li Ling desperately wishes her daughter would act like a proper young lady.
Background: [RENOVATING] As one of the more respected firework makers in the whole of the Fire Nation, Suyin’s father, Cheng Huo, weighs, mixes, sifts, and tests the various powder ingredients to produce fireworks of assorted color and noise effects. Cheng’s fireworks appear to have their own trademark look that other firework makers are incapable of duplicating. They are widely known as being some of the most beautiful and impressive around, stunning anyone who sees them with dazzling colors and unique patterns. Because of these special qualities, his fireworks are in particularly high demand, with some customers traveling from beyond the Fire Nation to Cheng’s workshop in Hiyama. Perhaps most notable of all is the fact that the Fire Lord himself, on a few occasions, has commissioned some of Cheng’s work for his own personal celebrations.
Suyin’s father has always allowed him to help her with his fireworks making. As such, she has quite some skill in handling explosives. She has even begun to create small fireworks herself, though they are nothing near the majesty of her father’s. The girl has never left Hiyama, so she knows next to nothing about the “outside” world other than what she has learned from various books and teachers.
