Our last event in Barton Town, for the SDRP's birthday, looked like this. We used a database and gave prizes at the end for participation.

Now we are planning a Halloween/Thanksgiving event. What I would like to do is to run an RP event from Oct 31-November 22, again using the database and giving out prizes at the end. We do not plan to run it exactly the same way as last time. We'll probably be taking out most of the database items and sticking to one, possibly two quests.

So, this thread will be open until the event starts. If we do decide to make this event longer, I would like to have a bona fide RP plot that every one can still get into. We want ideas and comments from you guys, and we'll post announcements here for more feedback as we work on the event.

Why can't we have an RP plot from the beginning?
A Murder Mystery Month event? Dun Dun Dun. Haha...just throwing out some ideas. Maybe it depends on how many people are in from the beginning a certain number dies each time.

Orrrrr... everyone can play detectives while we kill off people and leave clues, and the detectives can interact and solve it together dun dun dun.

yea, but that would imply that we are good enough to write a mystery that would take a month to figure out.

Halloween is a Wensday, and a most schools don't officially give the day off because it's Halloween (mine has a teacher inservice day), some might not at all, but for sure the next day has school. Assuming something like 90% of our members are in school the weekend before would probably be a better launch date.

Ok, I can change the launch date to that then.

I think that a mystery would be fun, and if we don't do that this time, maybe next time. mrgreen

so from the 26th or the 27th (friday/saturday) to th 22nd (thanksgiving), thats definitely plenty of time, especially if the guild portion (should we do that again) works out better.

I don't totally know what Penden is planning but when I think of a Halloween party I think of a giant old house, partially dilapidated of course, and when I think about giant old houses I think of old people, in the B-day RP SDRP played an old dude, maybe hes having a party, and he has a giant old house. and just from how he acted in the B-day RP you can tell there's no telling whats in the house.

And when I think about where to find a giant old house I mostly think small-town America, and although small-town is small, they usually have the best trick-or-treating, if we do the guild thing we could have a trick-or-treating thread, or even a subforum for it.

Also, what do you expect a giant house to have? a giant yard, specifically a giant back yard, maybe even a corn field or two since small-town America is founded on farming. So we could have a party in the house, a party in the back yard, both of them could be run in subforums, trick'er'treating, maybe run the barton thread as a front yard party. so three parties and an explorable zone or two.

(don't take anything said above as a solid plan)

But it could all flop if we don't have enough people to power it so get working on your character now, you've got a month but that's plenty of time to forget.

The mystery will almost definitely get planned in secret but the stage I'm seeing has plenty of room for plenty of mystery.

Hmn, so if we go with the house/mansion thing, we should probably plan specific events and/or secrets for some of the rooms. Please PM me or lily if you have an idea along those lines, so that if we use it, it's not given away!

General suggestions for the party should go here, still.

What is our goal/plot for being at the house besides that it's a trick-or-treating party?

Murder Mystery doesn't need a good storyline really.

So 23 Day Event, let's say we make 30 "characters" who can be an obvious or not so obvious killers. And they could be generic as possible. These characters can't be RPed directly, so those running the event doesn't have to do a lot of work.

But every other day, one Character dies. We'll leave clues and reactions from certain characters.

Every 4 days, people participating can vote on who are the actual "killers", we'll give them 2 choices on who it is, and they"re killed off because they're a danger to the haunted house. The top two character voted will be killed.

If they catch the killer, they get points? But if they kill off/vote off an innocent character, they lose points.

We can use characters around Gaia to make it easier, we could use ourselves, and make up the rest. biggrin

We kill off a character every other day, so we're going to kill 12 of those characters. Every 4 days 2 more die, that's 10, so a total of about 22 characters die. Haha. And 8 of those can be innocent or the killers.

What if the killers are chosen early?

To make it more interesting or more unlikely that the killers are found, those interested in running it can sway the public to kill off innocents... or maybe not innocents.

As for reactions, every player can ask one question to a character everyday someone is killed, and we'll answer. So that's basically the only RP the event runners are going to do. These reactions of course cannot always be trusted since the character could be a killer. XD

Clues can also be randomly given to those participating. So if one of those participating doesn't participate and give their clue, the others may not have enough to know who the killer is. Clues can also be wrong, so it'll be up to the players to either accept or reject the clue.

So basically, the game is practically to be totally based on luck? biggrin

yeah... a long post XD

that sounds rather complex, and if the vote is on who the killer is (as I think you're saying) whoever is the killer would be shown after the first vote.

Well if this is for general suggestion for the party, and it seems the haunted mansion idea is the favorite response. How about something with a bit of a classic touch. Maybe throw in something with a Phantom of the Opera feel. The Antagonist maybe doesn’t have to kill every day or every other day but can cause the “detectives" problems by blocking off certain areas, like blocking certain sub forum topics based on rooms, so it slows the investigation down which would prolong the Rp.

Or, our mystery man could leave riddles that players have to solve. Solving the riddles would involve a player Pming there answers to a mod and then maybe they receive a reward in the form of information just for those who answer the riddle, or even gifts.

It doesn't seem complex. XD

Well I can run it as a mini event, maybe for a week? I'll try it out there.

As for the general plot...maybe Disturbance of A Native American Burial Ground? Hahaha... it blends Halloween and Thanksgiving no? lol. Just kidding.
Ooo since it's a party, it could be about a Feast of sorts. Held by the ghost of Caligula. surprised
