The sun loomed overhead, but the clouds in the sky masked it from view. The fall breeze was light, but carried the scent of salt to hise nose. It was a warm day for fall on the beach, not that the stallion minded. It was a nice change from the cold mountain scenerey and the clearing he spent most of his childhood in. He continued to walk along the shore, his excessively long tail dragging in the sand.
His bi-colored eyes sat on the clean sand ahead of him, watching as everytime he set a hoof down, marring it's perfection. It bothered him a bit, to do that, but the breeze would come and fix the indentations in the ground. His attention flickered to the sea, and he paused momentarily. This was a place surely Eponine and his mother would enjoy. He'd have to get his sister to come here eventually, but his mother... His jaw set firm, and he was quick to look away and continue his stroll.

Unknowingly strolling down the far end of the very same shore was a mare with emerald green eyes. The breeze kept lightly moving her wavy sunset colored mane as she meandered along both the waterline of the ocean and the sand. She very much enjoyed letting the water rush in over her hooves, it made the gold color sparkle momentarily.
She had her gaze turned towards the sky, admiring the clouds moving by. Wishing that she too could move across the sky as gracefully as the clouds. Momentarily she stretched out her wings, but quickly let them settle back a her sides. Turning her gaze back to the land she noticed a stranger approaching in the distance.
Being as friendly and outgoing as she always was, she made a pleasant approach. As soon as she was in hearing range, she exclaimed "Why hello! Enjoying the beach too I presume?" His coloring reminded her of the lovely, yet untamable sea and his patterns were striking. "Not bothering you am I?" she asked politely.

He had been stupid to think that he'd be alone at the beach, especially so close to shore. He adored the beach, but often preffered to enjoy it from afar, standing closer to the forest and looking out, enjoying the shade and the salty breeze. It was different compared to his birth land, which he did like. He was not connected to his flitty brother, Zevach, or to regretable memories of not getting to know his father very well. Shaking off the thoughts, he watched the mare with guarded eyes, the smile forming on his dark lips polite.
He offered a light chuckle to her exlamation, nodding as he continued his walk along the shore to meet the mare. "Why, yes, I am, and no, you happen to not be bothering me," his words rolled off his tongue fluidly and his tail flicked encouragingly. His eyes flickered to her wings, and he rememebred the days where he would be jealous of those who had them. They were a pretty feature, but he could do without them.
"I happen to enjoy the beach more now that there is conversation," he chimed politely, looking down at the curly-maned mare.

She smiled her usual serene smile. "Thats good. I always enjoy a good conversation with someone new. Let us carry on along the shore and perhapse keep up the conversation?" Maui beamed. Upon trying to discreetly scan the stallion up and down she noticed that he was a heck of a lot taller than her, and seemed quite strong. She looked back up slightly at him and turned in the direction he was; to go back towards where she came from.
"We can carry on until we reach the tidepools on the far end of where I came from, the tide should be out by time we reach there, leaving some interesting terrain to explore" she suggested. She very much loved watching the tiny crabs and creatures scuttle about their holes and pools there. "But 1st off" Maui proclaimed in a louder, yet ever-polite tone, "Introductions!" She bowed her head lightly, "I am Maui. And who is the striking stallion I'm so lucky to have bumped into?" she smiled. Formal flattery was a thing she'd learned from Oathkeeper, her adoptive parent; Always compliment, but let it be truth and never false flatter.

He smiled at hers, and he took her turning as a gesture to step up to her ide, leaving a polite foot between the two. Upon standing next to the curly-maned mare, he realized how much taller he was compared to her, and he sheepishly swallowed. Was he always this tall? He nodded to her suggestion, not necessarly hearing a word she said as he glanced dow to her wings, contemplating on stepping two feet away as in case she spread them. Marius believed that he would certainly relish the feeling of feathers, but it would be quite uncomfortable for the both of them if he crowded her.
He did hear "tide pools", and his attention was now on the beach ahead of them. he often came to the beach, but he had yet t see tidepools. He was take back by her loud tone, but it mirrored her personality so far. Welcoming and dramatic, but not so dramatic as to be annoying. When she bowed her head nd complimented him, he rose his brows, amused by her introduction. He might as well mimic the motion, or face an awkward stroll.
Bowing his head to be eye level with the mare, he smiled, "This mere stallion is Marius. It is a pleasure to meet such an exubrant mare," he replied, lifting his head and chuckling. He had never been complimented outside of his family, but he hd seen mares glance at him as if surveying him. Was he really "striking"?
Such an amusing mare.

She had chuckled at the term 'exuberant.' Maui smiled, she did come off as a little more that outgoing and spirited, she figured. Not that that was a bad thing; at least she thought it not. "Mere stallion?" she echoed back playfully, "Hardly so. Give yourself more credit, Marius. Not so common is it that I come across someone willing to indulge kindly in a shorline stroll & converstation."
In a moments silence she realized that he had previously glanced at her wings. She wondered what he was thinking about them. Since he hadn't any wings himself, she worried. Many, she heard, were jealous of those with wings; expecially her wingless mother. In an attempt to clear the air about them she sighed, "I can't do anything with them." It was kinda an out there and awkward statment, so she followed it up by commenting again. "They're just kinda...there...like a decoration. I haven't yet learned how to use them. But it matters not, they're not all that important to me."
She wondered how he'd react to that. She didn't want to offend---in fact offending someone was one of her hidden fears. She glanced ahead, they were only a short stretch away from the tidepools. Maui peered back up at Marius, once again thinking about his height. It made her feel short & that amused her. So much so, in fact, that she giggled about it.

This often happened whenever he encountered a mare. They would tell him to not be so modest about his appearance, always trying to hint at something a little more. He had learned to just nod politely and chuckle to indulge them. He did think of himself as "average", and even though it often happened, whenever someone complimented him he felt a little awkward. But now it was different. This mare had brought up that he was uncommon for walking and conversing with her.
Did that make him stand out?
The thought amused him, and he tossed it around in his thoughts, deciding to muse about it later. It would be rude to think about one thing and forget his companion. He barely noticed the silence between them as they walked, but it was clear to him that she had picked up on his glance to her wings. Immediatly he felt a wave of regret wash over, and he opened his mouth to apologize if he made her uncomfortable. He often would simply mumble the words without meaning behind them as a polite motion, but with mares it was always different.
Mares mare mares.
At her words both of his brows rose without his consent, and he eyed them curiously. "Really?" He said breathily, shocked. Marius was sure that winds learned to fly when they were young, no? He knew of one wind... Aureate. He would inquire to his only male friend about that one day. He frowned at her choice of words, and he cocked his head to one side as he examined her wings. He lost his interest in the tide pools, curious as to why her extra appendages wouldn't be of use.
It dawned on him after a second that he was staring, and that was rue. He quickly turned his eyes away and chuckled nervously, flustered. "Sorry for staring. I've only met one other gifted with wings, so it's still very new for me to see one with them, let alone one unable to use them." He apologized, offering an apologetic look before glancing away. Marius often did not stumble so much in his manners, and it was beginning to irritate the poor stallion.
He didn't know what to say to continue the conversation and not let it stay on this awkward direction, so he cleared his throat and sighed audibly. Then he heard her giggle, and his eyes turned on her again. What could she be laughing at? His brows furrowed, and inclined his head towards hers, "What may I ask is so funny?"

((Just mentioning. Maui's in RP with Aureate, but timeline wise, it'll take place after this RP; since this RP is picking up faster than the other 3nodding Aureate is the one who's gonna teach her to fly, I think. *LOL*))
Innocently, the young mare smiled. "You're just so tall. It makes me feel tiny. But---Its a good thing. Oathkeeper, my adoptive father, always taught me to respect the things that make you feel small. Like the stars in the sky, or the vastness of the seemingly unending sea. Don't know why, but it just reminded me of that goodnatured saying." Upon her saying she'd glanced out at both the sky and sea and practically beamed.
Her thoughts turned back to the subject of her wings. "I was born to a mother who had no wings and cared not for me. I never knew my father, but I assume I inherited them from him. My brother went off when I was very very young and I don't recall him having wings either. Oathkeeper, a stallion who resides with all of us became my adoptive father, also doesn't have wings. So, who was I to learn from? I never could get the hang of it on my own...watch" she explained. Speaking about her past didn't bother her, in fact, the mare had recited the whole thing in a still chipper tone, even smiling broader at the last exclimation.
Geering up she worked up into a gallop then spread her wings and leapt off the ground, beating them in a rythem in which she assumed to be right. She stayed in the air momentarily and went a father distance than a normal soquili could jump. But suddenly she came crashing down, doing almost a barrel roll in the sand and ending up on her rump. She shook sand off, stood back up briskly and laughed gleefully, "See?"
She actually thought it quite funny.
She was most likely seeming extreemly strange to the stallion, but she was happy. She was trying to make light of the situation, by making fun of it. It wasn't out of her personality to do so either. She was just being herself and enjoying it too. Trotting back over to Marius she smiled. Good at catching body language she decided it was time to change the subject. "Mind telling me what you like? I've said too much on me I believe" she began.

((Alrighty. n___n))
He was used to be called tall, but he had neve heard a mare say that one should appreciate what makes them small. A genuine smile pulled at his lips, and he nodded, "He's right. Very poetic, really," a deep chuckle emitted from his throat and he glanced towards the water.
At her words he watched her carefully, waiting for a look of remorse or teary eyes. When some mentioned family... It was like a pity story. If it was so sad, why would one share it? But her face did not bare any look of remorse. She was smiling of all things! Her story was quite a sad one. He knew his parents, though his relationship with his father was vahue. It was good to ehar he had someone though. He didn't say anything as she attempted to show him what she meant.
He saw her rise... And then come down. His walk turned into a gallop, his hooves betaing against the sand shortly to catch up with her. Concern flickered across his face as he watched her stand up. She appeared okay, but a dazed look crossed his face as he tried to collect the recent event in his head. "Yeah.. You... You okay?" He inquired, walking back to her side. So she was right; she couldn't fly. Marius wanted to help, but who was he to do so? He did not have wings...
"What I like?" He repeated, blinking. Many often didn't ask that. They wanted to know about his family... Silly topics of that sort. He smiled softly, thinking, "I like the beach, the ocean... I come from the mountains, so it's a great contrast t the cold. I like listening to others... Making them happy," He almost whispered the last part, and he swiftly looked back to her, "No no, it's fine. I'm perfectly content listening to other's talk."

Maui laughed. "YeahI'mfine" she replied quickly, in an almost dismissing tone. She smiled again. "Well it seems we have a dillema!" she teased, "I like listening to others talk too." With that she laughed again. "What are the mountains like?" she asked, "I've only seen the meadows, the forest & the sea."
She was always genuinely interested in others; where they came from, what they liked & their stories to tell. Beaming cheerily she added, "You're doing a fine job at it." Apparently she also had good hearing, for she'd obviously caught the near whispered comment of 'making them happy.'

Marius frowned at her quick reply, curious as to if she really was alright. At her smile he found himself smiling as well. It was contagious, especially hers. It would be a downer if he decided to play mother hen on their meeting. He chuckled, shaking his head, "What a dilemma indeed... Well, the mountains..." He paused as he walked, thinking of how to put it. "Stop for a second and look towards the ocean. "I want you to look out at the water. It's crystal clear, probably chilly, but it's beautiful, right? The mountains are covered in white snow and the rock is hard and gray... The skies are always gray but it's not depressing... There isn't a significant water source, but when it snows lightly, it's incredibly lovely. The mountains..." He sighed, never speaking of his home before. It was new, and now it almost pained him that he had never returned to his birthplace since his family left.
"Oh--" At her words, he looked down and swallowed hard, flustered. He didn't think she'd catch onto that. "Thanks," he murmered sheepishly, glacing back towards the water.

"They sound amazing!" Maui chirped, honestly hanging on every word with intense interest. "I'll be sure to visit them sometime" she nodded. She giggled at his reply followed by the sheepish nature. "No problem" she replied, still equally as cheery. She wondered now though what they were up to exactly.
They were still headed slowly for the tidepools, which they now pretty much had come to. A small crab scurried by Maui's hooves and she bent her head down to examine it. "Well, we've come to the tidepools" she announced, stating the obvious. Little critters of all sorts hussled around in their rock hole homes and the strange plantlife caught in tidepools swayed back and forth as the wind rippled their personal mini-oceans. She much liked to admire it. Nature was beautiful, both big things and small.

"They are!" This was different from his often guarded behavior. He loved the mountains, and it often caused him to ponder why he was so attatched to the beach. Opposits attract? He grinned down at her, "If you do, I'd like to tag along," He offered, flicking his tail happily. He would take any excuse to head back up there. His mother was still a bit sick, so she would be unable to make the trip without her mate there to help... If he even knew. The thought of his father's negiligence annoyed him a bit, but kept it far from his thoughts. He'd rather not ruin this little trip.
"Oh," he said quietly, struck that they had already arrived. He was quick to watch the small animals, lowering his head closer to the small habitats. They were so small! He watched as small bits of sewaeed waved in the light ripples, the tiny creatures scrambling about. He would certainly have to return again. He was thankful for Maui showing him these. He would have probably not stumbled upon them for a while. He often clung o his own special spot on the beach.
He'd have to make it up to her. It'd be un-gentlemanly if he didn't. "Maui," he said, a smile in his voice, "Thanks for the trip. I certainly do enjoy your company," he said as he watched starfish, "I'll have to make it up to you somehow."

"Oh, you don't have too" She blushed at his 'having to make it up to her comment.' "If you insist, just about anything'll do. I'm not a picky mare" she smiled sheepishly. Sensing some sort of urgentness in his tone she paused. "You have to go now?" she asked. He'd sounded like he needed too, so she'd assumed. "If so, its been grand to meet you! Any moment with someone new is something to treasure!" she chirped cheerily, to let him know that if he indeed needed to leave, it bothered her not.

"I will though, promise," he flashed her a promising smile, not wanting to lie to the mare. He would've spent the rest of he day musing over his family if she hadn't shown up, which proved to be often disheartening. He took a slight step towards her, watching her carefully as she soke. She was certainly not a face he would forget; hopefully he was the same to her? He glanced towards th ocean, and nodded, "Next time I see you, I'll have found a way to make it up to you." He said, almost as if to convince himself he would see her again. He often saw mares once and then never again.
"Something to treasure, huh?" He murmered, nodding, "It's been great meeting you too, Maui," he farewelled, turning slowly as to head back to the forest. His mother was probably going down for a nap soon; it was best to check in on her and see if she was fine.
And certainly one day he'd check up on Maui as well.
