Where Sanaa came from
Background: Sanaa grew up her whole life in the sheltered muck of Foggy Swamp. She knew nothing of the outside world, until a traveling merchant got himself stranded in the swamp, and was rescued by the tribe. He came back about once a year and brought small things to sell every now and again- nothing really more than tacky jewelry picked up in the market. However, on one of the visits Sanaa got up enough nerve and approached the merchant, asking him next time to bring books.
She spent most of her childhood reading anything she could get her hands on and bending, not partaking in the stupid games the other kids did. After a while of educating herself, she began to hate her home, seeing it as useless. What was the point of reading about the world if she never got to see it? However, she knew her parents would disown her for such thoughts, and for 3 long years planned to runaway. During those three years, she poured over books on the outside world as well as maps. She also learned to change her accent, making herself sound like the merchant did (although, she still slips up when angry).
Finally, she gathered all of her possessions one dark night when the merchant was visiting, and reluctantly stole the merchant’s coin pouch, knowing that she wouldn’t get far without money. And with that she took a small boat and set out on her new life. After some traveling, she finally found herself in Ba Sing Se. Using her talent in both plant and water bending, she set up a street show in order to make herself some money.
However, Sanaa wasn’t able to live on the streets forever, and eventually found a job with a small tea shop on the outer ring of Ba Sing Se. It isn’t much, but its home. Sanaa still does street performances on busy market days to get a little extra cash.
Personality: Sanaa knows what it is to laugh and have fun, however most of the time she's a fairly serious person. She's had no one to depend on since she ran away, and worked for every coin that she has. And most of the time, that hard earned coin goes towards books, maps and writing supplies. While she doesnt write much, Sanaa likes to draw, and wants to be trained in it someday.
Sanaa loves to listen in on conversations in the tea house (very discreetly, of course), and could be a fantastic gossip if she chose to be. She doesnt talk much to customers, or well, to anyone. Sanaa doesnt really have many friends, and the only person she has affection for is Ming, the owner of the tea house.
Sanaa doesnt like to be hit on either, even though many of the boys around the neighborhood come to the coffee shop for the sole purpose of just that. Normally, she just wont talk, but Sanaa isnt afraid to beat on them if they try anything past that (its good that her employer doesnt care, so long as they pay).
