(I know it's not exactly Medieval, but I still need the information and thought I would discuss it here. Also I reference my own history and time line here so bear with me. )

I have recently developed a need for information on Gatling Guns. The simple mechanics of the machine make it perfect for construction after the loss of technology, and it's successfuly high body toll makes it a devastating weapon and thus one you would see on everything from ships, to pill boxes (bunkers). I also like that it's Civil War, and thus seems odd mixed with Renaissance ships, but that’s what a world without technological boarders is all about.

The below text was found at www.archives.gov

Quote:
The Gatling Gun
The Gatling gun was the first successful rapid-fire machine gun. Invented by Dr. Richard Jordan Gatling, a physician, the first model had six barrels revolving around a central axis. Gen. Benjamin F. Butler of the Union Army first used the gun at the siege of Petersburg, Virginia, in 1864-65. Shown here are two drawings of the improved 10-barrel, .30-caliber model which fired 400 rounds a minute. The gun was patented on May 9, 1865, and was officially adopted by the U.S. Army on August 21, 1866. It proved superior to other rapid-fire guns of the time and, for more than 40 years, the Gatling gun was used by almost every world power.

Now that you know why I do what I do I have compiled a few resources on the topic and would love to discuss Gatling Guns, similar weapons, or see your links on the topic. Just try to avoid traditional machine guns, if it isn't hand cranked or worked similarly it won't fit the technological period I'm looking for. I do not personally support any of these links, use the information at your own risk.

This is a compilation of links. I'll add to it as others as well as myself find new things.

I will add to this as I do more research. This is a discussion as much as a resource so I would appreciate actual words not just a jungle of links.

I took a few minutes to make an Image using MS Paint as my scanner is broken.

Atlantian Ship

This is a crude version of an Atlantian Warbringer. As we are here to discuss Gatling Guns I will point out that there are 40 Gatling on this vessel. 17 you can see. The same 17 on the other side, four across the front, and two in the grand room of the living quarters where court is held. As you may be able to see these are not like Civil War Gatling as they ahve a seat and swiveling turret to them. Now the last question is why Gatling Guns. Other than the effectiveness of the weapon and the fact that it's simple enough to be mixed well with other ages of technology there is a third reason. Most people would say cannons are the way to go when fighting at sea, and I have a few of those. Your logic being that A) They were the peak of technology at the period of the Tall Ship, and that B) Sinking a Ship would kill everyone on it. This is correct for humans that combat one another, but not for Atlantians. You see they come from the sea, and with water flowing through their veins, they don't really drowned like humans. Thus sinking a ship dosen't kill the crew, it just slows them down. So Atlatians when fighting in Civil Wars and whatnot have learned to kill men, not ships. Thus they went with Man killers, (Gatling), not ship killers (Cannon). These ships are left over from Civil War and that's why they have Gatling and not Cannon.

That's why I use Gatling, and why I started the conversation.

I can't remember much of that movie but you may be right. 3nodding

I also remember one of these weapons being used on one of the chapters of Rurouni Kenshin. I think all of Aoshi's men are killed by it. 3nodding
