Inside the round classroom in the base of the North tower, the students were awaited by what seemed to be a man with light blond hair and deep blue eyes. However, it was not a man, but a centaur; his bottom half being the one of a horse, with a gold coat and white tail. He was not at all beast-like, in a balance between gracious and yet robust.

“Welcome”, he said, with a slightly stern tone. “My name is Firenze, and I shall be your Divination professor.”

He signaled to the students, in a way of telling them to sit at the small round tables, surrounded by armchairs and poufs.
Firenze trotted forward, and then continued:

”Divination. You might know it as the art of predicting the future. However, it can also be used to delve into the past… which is something we shall approach later on. Divination is described by many as a very imprecise branch of magic, an inexact science, even. Be that as it may, the ramifications in which my people base themselves on, observing the sky and burning roots, results in quite accurate predictions, even if not too explicit at times. Still, I am obliged by the curriculum to show you all the other derivatives.”

With a wave of his right hand, he signaled to the walls which were lined with shelves containing several items, most of which crystal balls, tea cups and decks of cards. There were also a few copper kettles, most likely used to burn the roots.

“You shall take these items from the shelf, when required. However, I expect them to be cleaned, if needed, and put back in place before you leave the classroom. Being that this class is made from students of different years, each year will be assigned different things to do, per lesson. Exceptions can, however, be made. My purpose here is for you to try and grasp at least a part of the grand subject that is Divination, and perhaps that cannot be done if you are forced to do something you do not like or understand. You are also free to discuss results among yourselves, instead of being bound to silence, unless I request it. However...”

Professor Firenze paused and furrowed his eyebrows.

“I expect you not to fool around, for that kind of behavior shan’t be tolerated.”

1st Lesson

Dreams might have been how the first sentient begins discovered they were connected to something greater.
All things, past, present and maybe a possible future run through our minds. Things we did now know to be accessible, memories or predictions that we cannot choose to discover. Instead, it all comes to us, mostly free from our will.
Granted, it might be insignificant - as faulty as I, personally, find oneiromancy to be. But some believe it isn't.

You are floating in a sea of existence and every emotion casts its own ripple.
As your textbook states, "some are simple dots in the vastness of infinity; others can be powerful storms leaving an immediatly recognisable imprint as you touch them".

So, as we sleep, our minds float through these points without true direction, although it seems we generally stay close to those events that mean something to us, symbolically or not.

It might be revisiting the past, or maybe even a prediction of things to come. In theory, even if you don't remember the dream, you yourself will remember the event once it does take place, for it is in truth, the second time you've felt it.

Skilled oneiromancers or dreamseers are able to steer their own dreams, controlling them fully, choosing what to see.
It is said, some are even able to interfere in the dreams of others... we are all connected, after all.

I hold some skepticism to all of this. But you do not have to.

Leaving your vacation mindset behind, you shall all engage in a little exercise, regardless of your year.

I would like you to think back on something you have dreamed of, recently or not, something that you have engraved in your mind. Then, using your copy of your textbook - The Enlightenment of Oneiros - try to find a meaning for it.

Kiandra wandered into the classroom and quickly took a seat. She smiled up at the professor and then began to take out her textbook, quill and a piece of parchment.

As Professor Firenze began to lecture the class on todays lesson, Kiandra jotted down notes. Though she was generally a very intelligent person, she could feel she may have troubles with this subject. Still, she did as she was told without any hesitation.

Kiandra thought back about a recent dream she'd had. Though it was disturbing, at least to her, she felt it had some importance behind it. The dream itself was of Kiandra and her twin Naida. It took place a few months after they had arrived at Hogwarts. Kiandra and Naida were both swamped with classwork and hardly got to see one another. Even at meal times, they didn't get a chance to speak. This thought in itself was enough to make Kiandra feel like crying, but what really made it a nightmare, was the part where in the dream, when Kiandra and Naida finally did run into one another in the hallway, it was as if neither of them even knew eachother anymore. Both had changed so drastically that their once beautiful relationship had diminished.

As Kiandra recalled the painfull dream, she wrote down all of the details. Once the last sentance was finished, she took out her book and began to find the meaning of this dream. As she flipped through the pages, Kiandra hoped that this dream wasn't of the future.

Gabriel walked into the room. It was quiet, and that suited him all the better. Attentively he listened to the centaur's explanation of dreams. Or rather, he tried to. With every word he heard he kept jumping ahead, thinking back on his dreams. Surprisingly he couldn't remember any of them, but he didn't care, as they usually were about either his father or the teasing he was victim of back at 'home.

"Home..." He said softly. Try as it might, that word to describe that place seemed foreign on his lips. Yes his mother was there, and that should make it home only... It didn't.

Sighing, Gabriel brushed the hair away from his face, spotting Kiandra a few seats down, and suddenly it hit him. He had dreamed of something lately! OF her! Well, not of her, but her sister Naida. Again he marveled at how alike they looked, with long coppery hair. The only way to tell them apart were minute differences in the wardrobe.
Focusing back on the dream, he remember what it was. They were back at the Carnival having fun as they did before. Almost like reliving the day all over.
That was strange.
The day was good, but it wasn't all that memorable he thought. Intrigued, Gabriel pulled out his textbook and begun browsing the pages in search of meaning.

Taking deep breaths before entering the room, Eric finally calmed himself enough to open the door and go inside. It's not that he was nervous or anything like that. No, not at all. It's just that whenever he laid eyes on professor Firenze, a plethora of horse related jokes sprung into his mind and he knew better than to just let them out or start laughing on his own. It would make him suspicious and the man, horse, CENTAUR! was a bloody seer and very likely to find out why.

Keeping his mouth shut, he found an empty seat by the window to listen to lecture. The ma- centaur had good things to say Eric thought, but he also had a lot of comedic potential that kept him from completely focusing. Gladly, he didn't talk much so he could get into his assignment and focus on that instead.

He looked back on his dreams, so meaningless, some meaningful but he didn't need a book to find out what they meant. Instead he chose another one. He was riding the bike at night, through a long endless road. The tires leaving a trail of fire behind him as he moved ever faster and the surroundings blurred. A song by poets of the fall was blaring all around him. Eventually, we went so fast he left the road and disappeared into the stars.
All in all, it was a good dream, but he had no idea what it meant. It was perfect for this, he thought as he opened up his textbook.

Perry sighed as he settled down in pouf. He dropped his book on the table quietly, so as not to disturb the rest of the class. He had remember Firenze from last year, the first year that he had started to take Divination(as his friends said that it wouldbe easy). He should have learned not to listen to him when he had a month's worth of detentions for going into the forbidden forest.

Professor Firenze was telling them to think about a dream. Perry couldn't think. His mind was still hazy from the summer hols. Eventually he, settled on a dream that he had when he was around nine.

His grandfather had just passed on and he was upset. Granpy had always held a special place in Perry's heart. The night after his funeral, Perry dreamed of him.

They were in his Grandfather's old cottage in Ottery St. Catchpole. The floors were dark, polished wood(charmed to stay that way forever) covered in bearskin rugs. He remembereed that Darcy had never liked them, but kept one anyway because it was in his grandfather's will. Perry was sitting on his grandfather's lap and they talked about everything. School(he was in 4th grade at his primary school), Veletision shows that he liked(only seeing them occasionally with his Muggleborn father), and the cottage.

Near the end of the dream, Perry had looked up at his grandfather and said "But why are you here Granpy? Your dead." His grandfather had smiled and looked him in the eye. "I may be dead, Per,"he had said,"but that doesn't mean I'm not always with you." Then Perry had woken up.

The light auburn haired boy smiled slightly as he took out his book. That was the perfect dream to translate.

Naida was completely in awe of a real centaur teaching this class. That was honestly the only reason she took the class. She soon realized the whole subject fascinated her. She had never thought dreams could possibly tell her anything. She had always kind of thought they were just her imagination running loose when it didn't get enough use during the day. And here they had meaning? She frantically took notes and peered through her textbook.

Think back on something you have dreamed of... eh? Well, that was easy. The last three night she had dreamed the exact same thing. She was back at their house on the cliff, and she was sitting in one of her usual spots on the cliff watching water. She always felt much better when she woke up with Coco on her face after these dreams. In fact, she looked forward to sleeping just because of it. She scoured her textbook repetition means yearning. Well... isn't that ... vague? Then again, maybe she was yearning to be back there. And the picture images of being back there were what were comforting her. They were ... memories. All this stuff was somehow making sense although she was drawing a lot of little arrows randomly in her margins while thinking about it.

Jes took her seat toward the back of the room and listened to the Professor Firenze's lecture. Jes looked around realinzing she was the only fourth year here. She shugged and concentrated on the professor.

'A recent dream. . .' Jes thought after Professor Firenze finished his lecture. Jes has had many odd dreams lately, but she decided to pick one that she really wanted to know the meaning of. Jes had this dream before, when she was younger. In the dream she was watching TV on the couch in the living room of her old house. She had her favorite blanket and was ready for bed. Jes heard a noise, only being four she was too scared to move and pretended it was something else. Then she saw a huge black hooded figure, it came from the kitchen. Jes was terrified and screamed for her parents, who's room was just on the other side of the living room. The big black hooded figure kept walking and stuck out it's boney hand.
The she woke up.

Jes had chills run down her spine. She hated the dream and wondered what it meant. At around the time her great uncle had died. Jes always wondered if it was the same night. But she can't remember much about being four or younger. Jes sighed and shook her head of the memory.

[That was actually a dream I had when I was about 4. It creeps me out so much! At the time we lived and my grandparents basement and my great uncle lived with them too. I don't remember when he died exactly but I think its weird for a four year old to have a dream like that.]

Lorako entered quietly in the classroom, she was a little late. She said sorry to the professor, but it was much a sor... than anything else, she was surprise, it was the first time she saw a centaur. It was amazing, he was so big. His name was Firenze, she was curious, she read this name in the story of the second war, she wondered if it was actually this Firenze.

But time were not to question, she needed to catch up the lesson. She tried to remember one of her dream, actually she always dreamt about magic and fairies before she knew about Hogwarts and the magic world. She read so much books about it that her dreams were always about it.

She wrote it on her book, remembering the surprise she got after when she receive her letter.

1st Lesson is now closed.

As this was just the beginning, no serious evaluation was made. The lesson was open for two weeks, and I just wanted to get an idea of who'd show up and who wouldn't.

Those who have failed to attend were Isabella Carpathia and Dimitrie Donovan, both 5th years. As such, they receive a failing grade.
All the other students who attended the class, however, can consider themselves having a passing grade.

2nd Lesson will begin... as soon as I figure out exactly what will be taught in it.
Due to the number of students, I might have everyone doing the same instead of sorting tasks by year, but we'll see how that goes later.
