What are your favorite scriptures?

I like 2 Nephi 31: 17-21. It talks about getting into the strait and narrow path and how it is not enough to just be baptized. We have to keep working and building up our testimony and spirituality. My favorite part in there is "After ye have gotten into this strait and narrow path, I would ask if all is done? Behold, I say unto you, Nay; for ye have not come thus far save it were by the word of Christ with unshaken faith in him, relying wholly upon the merrits of him who is mighty yo save. Ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ..." (verses 19 and 20)

What about you guys?

This may come as a big surprise to all of you, but I like...

D&C 93!!!!!

Well, I also like other scriptures also. I like Mosiah, 2nd Nephi, 3rd Nephi, Alma, Mathew, John, Galations, Genesis, Moses, Abraham and Moroni to name a few.

Here are a few verses that I REALLY like. See if they sound familiar...

John 14
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

John 15
26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

John 16
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

Galatians 5
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

These all are great scriptures that go together to help us understand how to find the truth. I like to call them The Keys To Conversion.

I have many favorite scriptures but the one I want to put on my missionary plaque is Alma 5:49

Quote:
And now I say unto you that this is the order after which I am called, yea, to preach unto my beloved brethern, yea, and every one that dwelleth in the land; yea, to preach unto all, both old and young, both bond and free; yea, I say unto you the aged, and also the middle aged, and the rising generation; yea, to cry unto them that they must repent and be born again.

I like a lot of scriptures. Too many to name. razz

But my favorite thing to read above all is in Alma. Mostly the part about Captain Moroni! And the "War Chapters". I find them very exciting.

There are soooo many great scriptures. Some have already been stated. But, there is always room for more great scriptures.

Moses 4 & 5 are simply incredible. They basically go over the entire Garden of Eve events. They also talk about the fall of Satan. The insight that is given into Adam and Eve is priceless. I've heard it said that these 2 verses are spoken of in detail in the Temple ceremony. There is so much wisdom contained in there. They're the type of verses that you keep getting more and more out of them!

Not only that, it's also what Seminary is teaching. My seminary class has just gone over moses 4 and 5.

Oh wow...That is so cool! What a coincidence!

What do you like most concerning those scriptures Vin?

In Moses 4, verse 22, I like the part that says "Unto the woman, I, the Lord God, said: I will greatly multiply thy sorrow...."

You know, without sorrow, there is not any happiness or joy. To me, happiness and joy is like water to a thirsty and broken soul. With so many trials in our life, sometimes it just feels good to laugh and be happy.

That's the truth. I think you know when your life is getting better when you can look at yourself in the mirror and laugh. Or smile at yourself. Smiles... are so accepting.

If you want to learn something cool that I learned on my mission, here it is.

One of my favorite scriptures is in Mosiah Chapter 2:17. It states...

Mosiah 2:17
17 And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.

This is what it says in Spanish...

17 Y he aquí, os digo estas cosas para que aprendáis sabiduría; para que sepáis que cuando os halláis al servicio de vuestros semejantes, sólo estáis al servicio de vuestro Dios.

There is a key difference here. In english, it uses the word learn twice.

In Spanish, it first uses the word learn (aprendáis) as in "so that ye may learn wisdom." However, the next word is diferent. The word that is used is "sepáis" which means to know. So, I believe the Spanish version teaches this principle better. It is basically saying that I will teach you wisdom so that you will KNOW that when you are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.

I know that is a small example, but I love it. In fact, when I read it in English, I often switch the second word. ninja

My favorite scripture is this one...

D & C 78:17-19

"17 Verily, verily, I say unto you, ye are as little children, and ye have not as yet understood how great blessings the Father hath in his own hands and prepared for you;

18 And ye cannot bear all things now; nevertheless, be of good cheer, for I will lead you along. The kingdom is yours and the blessings thereof are yours, and the riches of eternity are yours.

19 And he who recieveth all things with thankfulness shall be made glorious; and the things of this earth shall be added unto him, even an hundred fold, yea more."

My favorite hymn is "Count Your Blessings" and at the bottom of the page it refrenced to this scripture. It's been my favorite ever since. I remember one night it just seemed like everything was going down the drain. It was one of those nights where you just sit there crying and wishing that you could just die in your sleep. Well it hasn't happened yet smile and I know it won't for at least 15 (most likely more) years. (It's amazing what you learn when you get a Patriarchal Blessing. mrgreen ) Yeah, well, I had a bit of paper in this section of D&C and it just fell open. My eyes scanned across it, and the thing that got me was here:

"...be of good cheer, for I will lead you along." Gee, I'm going to start crying again. sweatdrop

Another one I like was when my seminary teacher told us to say a prayer and flip randomly to a scripture. I flipped to Moses 1:7, which says...

"And now, behold, this one thing I show unto thee, Moses, my son, for thou art in the world, and now I show it unto thee."

I know I'm not a son, (I mentally change the beginning a little so it fits) but after that after that brief little prayer and scripture, it happened. After that early morning, my eyes opened and it was then that I realized how bad the world had become. It's a sad thing to see, but I'm glad I got my feet put on this path, because if I hadn't been, who knows where I might've ended up.

That's not the first time I've used that method for comfort though. My step-grandpa was being a butt when we were staying in his house down in Hawthorn for a week, and my grandma was really scaring me when she thretened to run away. When everyone left the room, I pulled out a copy of the Book of Mormon I had pulled along for the trip, and said a prayer, and flipped. I got D&C 50:5.

"But blessed are that that are faithful and endure, whether in life or in death, for they shall inherit eternal life."

Okay, I'm crying now. That had brought me so much comfort so many different times it's not even funny. I'm so grateful for the scriptures. I don't know what I'd do without such a great thing to live by. To all those who say we're fake and following lies, I know they're wrong. There's such a feeling that comes over any person that reads this book, comfort, even. I feel sorry for those that turn their nose up at it, for they don't know what they're missing. Thanks for anyone who takes the time to read this long post. I hope it touches you like it has me so many times.

my favorite scripture is 1st nephi 3:7
And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I awill go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.

Okay, I guess I'm marching to a different drummer. I absolutely love General Conference, and re-read each issue over and over until the next one comes out. I can open to any talk and find some thing that fits my life now:

For ex: I just hopped over to LDs.org, and randomly clicked a talk.

Opening Our Hearts
Elder Gerald N. Lund
Of the Seventy

In it, he talks about the promptings of the Holy Spirit, and how the condition of our hearts affects how open we can be to the Spirit. Pretty cool!
