Kei had made his way towards the border of the pridelands once again. It had been a few days since he had last seen Shiri and now he was beginning to wonder if perhaps he was wrong about their friendship? In the back of his mind, Kei tried to convince himself that he was putting too much effort into this, no idea that Shiri was actually speaking with those of the pridelands, hoping to join. Perhaps it had been too soon to truly consider her a friend?
Resting near the border, the male sighed and looked around. If he could spot a member of the pridelands, perhaps he could question them about Shiri? Would they know her by name? Or maybe if he described her? Kei's cheeks became pink as he realised that the lioness had not left his mind the entire time that he had been searching for her.
Where was Shiri?

Kutulia had become far braver over the past few weeks. It was likely due to the playful, curious nature of her sister, Mnyama. Her sister would find her bravery something amusing as it did not even compare to the extent that Mnya would bring it. In fact, in addition to claiming her father's color, Mnya had taken their father's curiosity, playfulness and multipled it by 10! Kutulia was much more reserved like her mother, though not to such a paranoid extent.
This cool afternoon, after going on a walk with her father, Sungura, Kutulia decided to hop off just a bit in order to examine the border. Sungura had always told his daughters to keep close and Tuli intended to, but one thing led to another and soon she had found herself some distance away. It was only when the small hare noticed the large beast of a lion pacing back and forth did she become worried.
Taking a few steps back, Tuli looked around. In the yellow grass of the savanahh, she had a better chance than her sister, but to a trained hunter's eye, the white of her fur was striking and easy to spot!

Sungura was always certain to spend special time with each of his daughters individually. He felt that as much as he loved their family time together, they were both seperate girls and deserved one on one time every once in awhile. In an attempt to bring Kutulia more out of her shell, Sungura led her towards the border to retell the story of how he had met their mother. If Sungura had not been as bold as he was and Cheshi eventually trusted him, the two of them would not have been born! Turning around in order to explain this, Sungura's eyes went wide!
Kutulia was gone!
Darting back and forth, the dark colored hare was in absolute shock. He had told his daughter to remain close and was uncertain as to why she would choose to disobey him! Glad for once that Cheshi was not currently with him, Sungura caught site of small rabbit tracks and began to follow. How could such a small hare get so far so fast?

A yellow and blue eyes narrowed onto the form of a delicate pale hare running out from the pridelands. She seemed to have caught site of Kei and as he watched her pause, frozen in her tracks, Kei couldn't help but feel a bit guilty for questioning as to whether or was appropriete to eat something that was not on his territory. Remaining where he was in order to look over the frightened hare, the dark colored lion decided against hunting her down. By the look of her, she was no older than a week.
Lowering himself as to make himself seem like less of a threat, Kei cleared his throat to speak. It felt strange to speak to a hare about a lioness, though he felt it would not do any harm to simply question the animal. Worst that could happen would be he did not recieve any information. "Excuse me. Would you happen to know of a lioness named Shiri?"

As Kei had noticed, Kutulia was absolutely frozen where she was. She had been told of these types of situations from her mother, warning her to stay away from predators and the like, but having already been stuck, she couldn't see what there was to do now. Wide, pink eyes darted about for some escape, though she couldn't find any. Coming to a realisation, the young hare wondered if perhaps because she was beyond the Prideland borders, the male might not be able to get her? The hare held onto both of her paws and hoped that this might be the case.
When the male finally spoke to her, she jumped into the air and all of her fur stood on end. She did not expect the male to remain still, let alone speak with her. He mentioned a lioness named Shiri, but the small hare didn't recognise the name at all.
Shivering and wondering if she should make up something simply to keep the lion pleased, the hare finally whispered, "..I-I don't know anybody n-named Shiri.." She trailed off and watched the lion carefully, wondering if her answer was reason enough to attack.

Sungura had continued following Kutulia's paw prints, but to no avail. Small beads of sweat were falling down the hare's forehead as he searched frantically. He imagined this was similar to how Cheshi often felt and he suddenly felt guilty. If Cheshi knew that he had lost their daughter.. He imagined a furious, panicing, teary-eyed Cheshi and found himself only feeling worse.
Hoping beyond a small bush, Sungura finally spotted her. Bundled in a small, trembling ball, was his pale colored daughter, being watched by a large rogue lion. In comparisson to their encounter with the serval, this was nothing! The lion was massive and his thick mane falling over his shoulders gave him an even more intimidating appearance.
Swallowing hard, the hare did the only thing he could think of, "Get away from my daughter!" He yelled, paws balled into tiny fists and body hurrying over to where they were. He made his way in front of Tuli and didn't waste any time asking her how she was. He simply blocked the space between the lion and her with his own body. If he was to be sacrificed, he knew it was for the better good in order to protect Kutulia.

Kei then took a few steps back from the hare and released a deep sigh. He felt as though he was wasting his breath asking a hare, but it would not hurt to simply question her. He wondered then just why he was spending so much time looking for the lioness? If she had wanted him to follow, then she would have given him some sort of sign? When they had been with one another, Kei swore that she enjoyed him at her side.
The lion shook his head again, sending his thick white mane in all sorts of directions. Frustrated now, the male bared his teeth and allowed thick claws to enter the dirt. If he had not frightened the small hares before, he was certainly more intimidating now.
Turning his head back to the hare, the lion spoke in a much less friendly tone. He was not angry, but simply frustrated that during his entire rogue life, he had been satisfied with his own company and now.. since he had met Shiri, he felt alone..

Kutulia, having already been frightened, was now more worried than ever. Had she said something to upset the lion? Attempting to get closer to her father, the small hare gulped. Though she wanted to look to Sungura for comfort, the hare couldn't peel her eyes from the lion. It was as though she understood that if she looked away, she could become a very easy target. Already, the small hare was born with these instincts that would protect her from becoming prey.
Her father was now waving his paws about and yelling. Kutulia knew that he wanted to help her, but didn't think his method was the best way to go about doing it. Wouldn't yelling at the lion only make him more angry?
Stuttering, but now standing up and coming near her father and the lion, the small hare spoke. Her voice was quiet, but bold for such a small creature, "Please mister lion! Don't eat my daddy! We can help you find your friend!"

Sungura continued to yell towards the lion, until he was certain that Kei was not interested in his baby. Having only travelled out with his daughters a few times, the father was incredibly protective and was very willing to place himself in danger in order to protect them to the best of his abilities. Glancing back to his daughter once or twice, Sungura was glad to see that she was backing away. If she could run and return to the den, then his actions would not have been in vain.
To Sungura's surprise, however, not long after Kutulia began to back away, she returned, but this time at his side. Her small voice boomed up towards the lion as she begged for the lion not to eat him! With wide brown eyes, Sungura, grabbed ahold of his child and kept her close within his arms, "Kutulia! Your daddy can take care of himself!" And though Sungura was petrified for Kutulia's life, he felt honored to have such a noble little daughter.
At that moment, while holding his small girl, Sungura awaited the lion's actions.

Kei could see how desperate the two hares were before him and though he had his canines still visible, he was not wishing in the least to threaten them. A deep anger built within him. How could Shiri simply take off and speak of nothing to him? Kei had dedicated himself to helping Shiri find her friend and though they had not been successful, he remained loyal. Had Shiri decided that her own loyalty was not as important? Kei's fur stood on end at the thought.
Looking down towards the hares, however, Kei pushed away his thoughts and forced a more delicate expression. "I do not mean you both harm.." He took a few steps back farther into the roguelands.
Looking back into his home, he released a deep sigh. Although he felt an anger for Shiri, he hoped that she was alright and that he would find her again. Preparing to leave the hares, he decided to thank them for trying to give him some sort of information, "I appreciate you thinking about Shiri, little hare..." he said quietly, "I'll be off now.."

Kutulia, having felt proud to stand up and protect her father, was now smiling up at the lion. She knew now that the beast of a creature was not interested in devouring the poor creature as his next meal. Perhaps speaking with lions was a way to create friendships between the species? Though young, Kutulia understood that as meat-eaters, they still needed food, but maybe they could put aside their hunger at times and make exceptions?
Watching as the lion began to make its departure, the small hare cuddled up against her father and beamed. "I saved you, daddy!" She giggled. Her father had looked so frightened when Kei approached them and Kutulia hoped that now since the lion said he would be leaving, she might see Sungura smile again.
Waving a paw, Kutulia offered a final farewell to the lion. "Bye byeee!"

Like Kutulia had hoped for, Sungura's expression began to return to normal. He didn't quite yet allow his guard to be set aside like his daughter, but he began to trust that the lion was, indeed, not planning to harm them. As Kutulia embraced him, Sungura returned the hug affectionately. He understood now how Cheshi could become so frightened at times. He planned to keep this small ordeal away from his mate's ears as to not add more worry to her already paranoid outlook on the savannah.
Releasing Kutulia lightly, Sungura's ears perked up at a particular name. Shiri.. Shiri.. The hare swore that he had heard it sometime before. Thinking back, the dark colored male remembered meeting another young lioness that was yellow in color and had interesting stripes down her back. Memetuka had given this lioness a false name and become somewhat worried when she appeared. Now this rogue was looking for her and appeared angry.
Worried that this lioness might be in danger, Sungura grabbed ahold of Kutulia and bounded off towards their den.
