The dainty woman with the swelling belly stood off to the side of the ship, her feet firmly anchored to the soft sand. Her soft green eyes brimmed with tears that threatened to slip down her cheeks as she regarded the time she and the crew had spent on the island. Now that the Falach Lasair's re-building had reached completion it was time for them to leave. The valiant pirates had collected their rewards greedily; among them, her lover, the Captain. Annabelle Lee was slightly irked to find that Aiden had not spoken to her since she told him of her pregnancy. Perhaps he did not even care? In fact, Annabelle had not really been spoken to since she was shut away with little Cain under the main deck during the battle. The mistress was beginning to think that her darling Aiden did not want to have children just yet - after all, he was angry with her when she told him. Maybe he did not love her anymore? Maybe his affections had moved elsewhere? Annabelle would shamefully admit that her figure was a little less than desirable currently, especially in comparison to the elves' lithe forms, and would understand why the Captain would be more attracted to one of them above her. She would understand it, but would not accept it. Defensively, she cradled her enlarging abdomen. The Captain was known to be very flirtatious. But even so, Annabelle had believed him to love her. These past few weeks were less than convincing, however. What she needed was a little support.

She sighed in discontent, staring at the newly repaired vessel. Annabelle loved Aiden, she really did, but sometimes she wished he would be a little more supportive. As a lover, as a friend, and as a father-to-be. The woman felt so lonely: like a lone orchid left standing in a field of snow, not yet put to sleep for the harshly cold seasons. The only person that stood by her was Sione, and Annabelle didn't really see her all the time. There was an elf whose name Annabelle did not know that shot her comforting glances. This elven woman wore only a bloodstained, cotton shift and a cold, desolate look on her face like she'd done something terribly wrong. Annabelle believed her to be a very shy little woman who could understand what she was feeling just by looking at her swollen stomach. She could see the prospect of a friend in her as well and she hoped that she would join the crew. Perhaps Annabelle could confide in her, for she looked like a person to confide in, despite her appearence. This caused a smile to surface on the woman's face. The mistress decided to seek out Aiden. Thinking of the elves fueled her inner courage, and she grabbed a rowboat. While rowing her pregnant self over to the ship was no easy task, Annabelle did it with amazing strength. Perhaps pregnancy was putting some meat on her bones after all.

Once she reached the ship, the Captain's Mistress hauled herself on deck and immediatly spotted the Captain. He was steering the bow. "Aiden," she voiced, approaching him confidently. "Have you nothing to say to me?" The woman smiled, hinting, then rubbed her belly, which seemed to grow larger every second. "To us?" Quickly, she corrected herself, then turned to fully face Aiden, the wind twirling her spiral curls with its misty fingers.

Through the reconstruction of the Falach Lasair, Aiden had remained close by, monitering all actions of the elves and ensuring that his ship was returned to its prestige condition. In addition to his love for women, Aiden McCallahan truly loved his ships. When his first ship, The Aurarius was destroyed horribly, the captain was devastated. Though the destruction was of his own fault, the man still sulked for quite awhile. When the captain wasn't keeping a close eye on the working elves and crew members, he was speaking with the King regarding their previous discussion of the reward. Aiden was pleased to take on many of the elves, but was not willing to take them against their will. As a pirate, this may have been strange, but taking such a large amount of elves could be dangerous if they proceeded to organise some kind of attack, or worse yet, a mutiny! Pleased with how things were turning out, Aiden couldn't keep a grin from his face. Sadly, this grin had nothing to do with the small child growing within his lover's womb. In fact, Annabelle had remained rather far from the man's thoughts.

Aboard his ship, during the attack from the dragon-beast, Aiden watched the fair Annabelle Lee approach him bravely, announcing that she was carrying his child. He was furious that she had kept it from him, but filled with many rather strange emotions. His childhood was much more pleasant than many of his crew and yet, he never contemplated raising a family of his own. Filled with lust for the seas and desire for adventure and battle, the man couldn't imagine bringing a child aboard his ship. Simply recruiting women seemed like trouble enough, when he had such a great weakness as a child, it could be shattering to his career as a feared captain. Worried for her safety, the captain sent her below deck with the child of Jamie Gallows. He knew that would be the safest position for her at the moment and once matters were settled, he would tend to her and they would share conversation. While the ship was being worked on, and even perhaps hours into leaving the island, the man dared not think of Annabelle.

Filled with thoughts of port and the magnificent items and trinkets he might purchase with his new amount of gold, the captain didn't hear the faint pittering of footsteps approaching him. It was only when her beautiful voice caught his strange pointed ears that Aiden turned around to view Annabelle. Even so far into her pregnancy, the man found her absolutely stunning. The wind pushed about her golden red curls and her eyes seemd to glow. Leaning onto the bow, the man admired her as though it was not of his choosing to have remained absent for so many days. A desire for Annabelle had been unquenched since she announced to him of their child and the man's lustful eyes made this clear.

Smiling faintly, the man shut his eyes and released a deep breath. "And how may I explain my absense in a way that might be reasonable?" The man shifted his former gaze from Annabelle to the ocean's ahead. "The island has been a difficult adventure. The battle, the news.. I simply needed time to myself.." The captain spoke amazingly gentle, his tone soothed, relaxed and at ease.

Annabelle did not blame Aiden for taking his extended "leave" of her. In fact, she understood it completely.

When the island battle had first commenced, Annabelle made a point of telling Aiden that she was with child to ensure the fact that if either of them died during the fight, he would still know. The mistress had tried to conceal her pregnancy over the first passing months, but as her weight increased so did her guilt. He had every right to know, did he not? He was, after all, the one who'd impregnated her. He deserved to know, and he should have. But Annabelle had been terribly afraid of telling him, and with just cause: he was a man, and men had tendencies to flee during crucial times in a woman's life. In the Pleasure Palace, any whore who was impregnated never informed the perpetrator of his deeds nor saw him again. Annabelle grew up thinking a man would simply desert if his mistress was pregnant. She harbored this secret for some time because of that reason, but also because she feared Aiden would leave her since he was a captain and would never want to settle down, wed, and raise a family. Annabelle knew that was what she wanted, partly, and could not bear to foster any thoughts of losing him for such a silly girlish dream. She'd grown up without security or love. She didn't want to loose that now that she'd gained it.

The woman thought it slightly ironic that what she was to become was exactly what she vowed never to be: a mistress, a pregnant whore. When everything else was lifted, that's really all that she was. And did she want to be that? When Annabelle was younger, she would have repelled any temptation leading to that fate. But Aiden... he was so much more than a force to be resisted. Since Jonathan Graves and Tracey Tans, he was the only man she could trust and love. But something set him apart from Tracey and Jonathan. Annabelle could do so much more than love Aiden, so much more than simply trusting him. It really was the first time she'd ever felt so strongly for another human being. Loving him just wasn't enough for her, whereas with Tracey or Jonathan she would be content with only feeling love toward them. With Aiden there was something different, something special, something other than just plain love and desire. Annabelle wasn't sure if she could ever be able to verbalize these feelings, but when she found the right words and the right time Aiden would be the first to know. But it was still strange. When she was little and learning how to live, she never had anyone to teach her about love. Sure, her stepfather and stepmother had exhibited quite a bit of it, but she was too young to comprehend it. Was this what it felt like? She couldn't help but wonder if Elise and Josh had felt the same way about each other, like how she feels about Aiden. Did they experience such intense emotion, like her? Did they ever have trouble expressing how much they loved each other? Was their love as strong?

Annabelle sighed contentedly. When Aiden spoke, her green eyes flashed his way. The setting sun sparkled in the flecks of green and gold coloring her irises, and her full red lips parted into a smile. His voice made her head swim in happiness. She stepped toward him, her hips swinging from side to side (it had been harder to walk straight since the child grew heavier). "So, Captain McCallahan," she cooed, playfully, grinning fully at him now as she wrapped her arms around him and pulled her head to his chest. Her rounded belly prevented them from getting as close as usual, but inhaling his earthy scent was still able to soothe her. She tilted her head upward toward him, and when her eyes met his, she felt as though she was internally melting. Suddenly the mistress feared her knees buckling, and herself falling on the newly repaired Falach Lasair decks. Her arms wrapped around Aiden tightly. As Annabelle lifted her head to Aiden, her long golden-orange tresses fell to her lower back. Another gust of wind smoothed her dress against her body and she shivered. It was slightly chilly without a covering on her upper body. Looking into Aiden's eyes, Annabelle felt that even though she was a pregnant whore, she had fulfilled her life purpose. Elise and Josh would be proud. Thinking of them being stepgrandparents induced clear, salty tears to run down her rosy cheeks and splash onto the deck below. "How do you feel about being a father?" More tears formed despite her attempts to quel their flow. She saw Elise and Josh smiling at her in the back of her mind. Her lips began to tremble uncontrollably... and she had wanted to look strong in front of Aiden! Hah, one goal stood unrealized, that was definate. "I'm sorry Aiden, I'm trying not to cry, but..." What could she have said? That she was hoping her stepparents would be proud of her - pregnant and unmarried?

But even so, she was happy. She was so very happy. "I love you," she whispered, though it wasn't enough.

While Aiden found himself almost angered that Annabelle had told him so late into her pregnancy, the man also dreaded her timing. He understood her reasoning and yet, after she had told him, he almost held it against her. Why hadn't she simply been open with him? Did she know that no matter the time, or reasoning, he would act this way towards her? The island was an opportunity for Aiden to remain far from Annabelle's side and think clearly and without her gentle eyes to persuade him one way or another. He would need to make changes to the ship, his life style, or his goals. There was no way in which things could continue as they were. Life on the Falach Lasair would never be the same.

But looking towards Annabelle and her swollen abdomen, Aiden could not help but wonder if the changes made would truly make him unhappy. He had helped create life and had his parents been around to witness him, they might find his actions absurd. His mother and father had always been dedicated parents. Unlike many other pirates, the captain of the Falach lasair had a pleasant past with many great memories. His reasons for setting to sea and pillaging cities had more to do with his own personal interest in self gain and wealth. These ideas had nothing to do with his parents or their own hopes and dreams. They would have encouraged children and been eager to witness the birth of their son's child.

As Annabelle pressed herself into him, Aiden offered a smile and took her in to his massive arms. He could feel her body both trembling, as well as shivering from the cold. Was she frightened with her news? Did she expect him to simply take off again? These thoughts, coupled with the thoughts that he knew would run through his parents mind had the man ashamed. He should welcome to child eagerly, proud to be a father.

And when Annabelle asked the captain how he felt of being a father, Aiden could not speak. How could he express to the delicate flower before him the thoughts in his mind? He would certainly scare her and fill her with worry if he was completely honest. In truth, the captain was scared himself. The thought of such a fragile being walking upon the deck, put into a surplus of dangerous situations. Aiden did not wish this life for his child.

Pulling back and looking into the beautiful, watering emerald eyes that belonged to Annabelle Lee, Aiden smiled broader. "I welcome the child with open, eager arms.. My parents would have loved to see them." And though the captain had a great closeness with his mother, he had never mentioned them to any of his crew in the past.

Annabelle sighed in a painfully obvious way. So, he was not afraid? No, of course not - he didn't have to go through this horrible ordeal of childbirth. The mere thought of being torn asunder by a seemingly little child terrified the woman, causing her grip on Aiden to tighten. "Aiden... I - I'm so frightened... I've heard and seen and experienced the trials and agony of childbirth. I've served as a midwife in my mother's... I mean, I've been near a childbed. And so many were robbed of their lives, so many died, ripped apart, bleeding, right before my eyes and I could not attempt to help them," Annabelle sobbed, gasping for air between tears. "Look at me," she pulled back, staring into his eyes. "How can I be ready for this? How can I possibly prepare?" She faltered, her voice dropping to a whisper. "What if I die?" Annabelle grew pale, more tears flowing from her eyes and causing her entire face to wrinkle.

She knew that she was causing Aiden more grief, though, and desperately attempted to calm herself. With her trembling white palm she wiped the tears off her face and sniffed, myriad doubts coursing through her head. What if she was killed? What if her baby was killed? What if, gods forbid, Aiden could never wrap her in his arms and whisper soothing thoughts to her again? "What if I die?" Annabelle repeated, regaining strength and stating it calmly, the only thing betraying her bravado being the trails of wetness streaking her flushed cheeks. What did she want him to say to that? The mistress let her gaze fall to her abdomen, and her hand followed suit. Strange, she thought, that such a small, innocent being has the power to unknowingly inflict devastation or joy on so many.
