Hayagriva bounded enthusiastically over fallen logs and stray tufts of grass on the edge of the forest. It had taken a long time and persistence but he had finally gotten away from the attention of his mother, Avalokiteshvara. She annoyed him sometimes with her constant advising and lecturing. Yes, he'd be nice to people, even ones he didn't know. No, he wouldn't scuff his hooves through anthills just to see them run around. Much.
His large gray eyes took in the scenery of the forest with youthful curiosity. A squirrel made a death defying leap from one tree to another. How could it do that? Why couldn't he do that? He reared back and planted both hooves on the trunk of the tree in jealousy. He'd never be able to climb so well. He dropped off of the tree with a smirk. He could at least run faster than a squirrel, even now with his spindly legs. The squirrel skittered out of sight and Haya looked around the area, hoping to find something else to entertain him.

Earlier that day Running faster and faster across the fields and meadows, his hooves pounding on the ground as he went. With the sun high in the sky and heat beating down on his coat he actually started to work up a sweat. His long mane and tail flowing and dancing behind him as he went. There weren't many days when he could get a good run like that but it gave him the thrill that he needed. That feeling that no one could stop him.
Present Now the bright rainbow stallion was lounging around in a shallow stream, letting the cool water wash over him. His head rested on the bank though his eyes were almost completely closed from being so relaxed. He let out a heavy and happy sigh as his body started to cool off and return to normal temperature.

Hayagriva's ears perked. He heard the sound of burbling water not far away, probably a small brook. Water was interesting and another one of the things that his mother worried too much about. Whenever he wanted to jump in she always went in first to check for rocks and the current. By the time she was finished he would already be bored and want to do something else. Without her here he could finally enjoy himself. Haya trotted in the direction of the noise, tail tip gliding above the layer of leaves on the forest floor.
The sound became louder as he trotted, drawing Haya closer and closer. Just a little further... almost there... He circled around a particularly large tree trunk and saw his prize, a beautiful stream of water stretched out in front of him.
With someone else in it.
"Who're you?" Hayagriva demanded with a start.

Even though he could hear little hoofbeats coming closer it didn't register in his mind to actually look up until he heard a voice. Slowly opening his eyes he was met with a yellow striped colt starring down at him. "Viscoso is my name if that's what you're wondering." He smiled and sat up up a bit, looking the foal over. What really caught his eye was his tail. The spade at the end of it said Kalona but otherwise he seemed like a harmless regular colt. "My apologies if I'm in your way. I can move if you want. It's just such a nice day out and the water feels really nice."

Haya narrowed his eyes, ears flipping forward and back with uncertainty. He hadn't met any adults without his mother around so wasn't sure how he was supposed to treat one. There were stupid little rules for everything. His brows furrowed in thought but he grew distracted as soon as he noticed Viscoso's head. What was that sticking out of it? Haya's own head tilted and he blinked confusedly at the sight.
"You're strange looking. Do you hurt things with that thing on your head?" It looked sharp enough to hurt just about anything and Haya didn't want to get in it's way. And besides, soquili who hurt other soquili were bad soquili and he was supposed to stay far away from them. Until he was older, at least.

This colt was definately more unsure about who he talked to. Quite the opposite of how he was when he was little. He was always going up to strangers and making friends with people since he really didn't know that everyone out there was bad at that age. Chuckling a bit when he was called strange looking, he stood up and shook off the water that clung to his coat. "Oh no, of course not. I haven't hurt anyone with my horn. Everyone I meet is too nice for me to hurt them." Smiling at the foal, he bent his head down to his level so he could look at his horn. Most Soquili he met were curious about it so this was nothing new. "Horns like mine actually have some healing power. So if you got hurt, like a cut on your leg, I could make it better." He smiled again.

Haya studied the horn intently. Healing powers? He could think of lots that were more useful. Those thoughts spread a grin across his face. "What I want is a horn that can make me run faster than anyone else or swim like a fish or fly around. I think my dad had wings so could fly. It's not fair that I can't fly, is it?" He looked up at the older male, indignation at the injustice spread across all his features. "My tail is cooler than yours, at least." He raised his tail and waved the barb high above his own head. "Betcha can't do that!"

"Well none of the Soquili out there that have horns have those powers. You could be a fast runner without a horn, it will just take some practice. You could also learn how to swim without having any special powers, just not underwater. You're a little out of luck with that one, just as I am. But something we have in common. I have always wanted to fly, so I'm with you on that. I wish my horn could give me flying powers." Viscoso smiled and flicked his long tail casually as the colt raised up his tail and waved it around. "You're right, I can't do that. See? You do have something special, that tail might come in handy someday."

Hayagriva thought he was starting to like this strange stallion. He lowered his tail and gave a playful jump to one side. "Sure, it's handy! I can turn over rocks and poke people and..." He stopped and blinked, suddenly remembering. "Oh, my name is Hayagriva but mom mostly calls me Haya." His tail, forgotten about, twitched in time to his thinking. "I want to go into the water. You can go back in too if you don't bug me. Er... I mean... if you don't splash me..."

Vis laughed and bowed his head slightly. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Haya." He watched the colt's tail twitching back and forth and found himself wondering who his parents were. Was one actually full Kalona? Or were they crossbreeds? He'd probably never know but his curiousity always got the best of him. "Feel free to go into the water and I'll try not to bug you or splash you, Haya." Turning, he walked a little ways down stream and layed back down in the water.

Haya was all too happy to leap into the water and splash about playfully. He was greatly enjoying being away from his mother. He'd have to try it more later, if she didn't heighten her guard over him because of this incident. He ducked his head between splayed forelegs to watch a fish swimming beneath him. How interesting! His head rose again and he splashed back over to the side of the reclining unicorn.
"Have you ever seen someone who looks like me but with wings?" His tone was insistent, even a little urgent. Maybe Vis knew who his father was. Maybe Vis could help him find him...

Viscoso smiled and laughed as he watched Haya splashing about in the water. Such a curious little fellow he was, just as he himself was at that age. Though he didn't go near water very much after the 'incident' when he was younger and he still tried to avoid larger rivers if possible to this very day. He lifted his head from the bank to look at the colt. "Someone who looks like you with wings? No I can't say that I have, sorry. Why do you ask?"

Hayagriva shifted in the water and looked out across its surface instead of meeting the stallion's gaze. "No reason. Just want to know." If his father was still around maybe he'd make his mother stop nagging at him. Maybe he'd take him exploring and swimming. But no... he was gone and Haya had never met him. His mother would barely even talk about him and usually changed the subject whenever he asked.
He shuffled through the shallows, enthusiasm dimmed for the moment.

Vis watched Haya as he shuffled about, obviously not as rambunctious as before after mentioning the question. Was it possible that the colt didn't have one of his parents around? It was the only thing that would fit the question and explain why his mood had changed. The rainbow stallion stood up from the water and walked over to the colt. "Did you want to talk about something? It might make you feel better." He smiled and hoped he could try and cheer him up.

Haya didn't like the change in Vis' behavior... or at least this facet of it. It sounded too much like his mother. "No. I don't want to talk about it." He kicked a stone under water and glared when it only tumbled through the water a short distance before falling back to the bottom. "It's stupid." He swished his tail across the top of the water and suddenly lunged forward. He ducked underwater for a moment to snap his teeth at a fish passing by. There. Now it was having a bad day too. He emerged with water dripping out of his mane and a scowl on his face. This wasn't so fun anymore.
