After having such an interesting encounter with another maned wolf, and better yet one that could relate to his past, Kiume found he had much more energy that he ought to have at such a time. He had taken to wandering the distances from the waterhole, of course with no real intention of going back. His eyes and body were simply meandering, taking in the scenery of the night. Its peacefulness and tranquility...or at least, that's what it looked like from his perspective. Who really knew what was going on in all the vastness of the Savannah.
Kiume blinked several times as he lifted his head to the skies, eyes immediately landing on the orb that he'd grown so fond of in the past month or so. The way it illuminated the rest of the heavens, dominating the sky most times, then altogether disappearing as though it had never existed in the first place. Those nights when it was gone, he felt a little more lost than usual, though he never actually took to using the heavens as a map or guide to his life.
He sighed and took his eyes back down to earth and its grassy terrain before him. Almost instantaneously, his eyes focused on the brightest thing around - a white pelt. Kiume squinted and approached the figure warily, steps staying slow and steady.

"So, when I'm positioned here, I should be able to see the Drie Konings... or is that Orion? Hrrrm, is it even the season for Orion? Grah, this is so confusing... why does the sky have to be so cloudy tonight, of all nights?!"
Tsuki was having it rough. Usually competent in her gazing abilities, tonight's weather seemed to be toying with her mind, which in turn made the maned wolf extremely frustrated. And when Tsuki was frustrated, boy, did things slip through her brain.
"Oh, it's got to be here... what did Mum teach me, again? This constellation is... I know this one, it's... Oh, geez, I think I really need a holiday..."
With a sigh, Tsuki sat down irritably on her rump, shooting the sky a look of sheer irritation. Usually, she loved it dearly - it was her passion, and it looked after her when she was in strife. But tonight, the weather was turning against her - how, for Mkodi's sake, could she do a proper reading through these increasingly annoying whisps of dark cloud? It was true - Tsuki felt for the sky as would a lover feel for a partner - usually, the two worked around eachother in harmony - but tonight, they were bitterly fighting against eachother.
The young wolf was so preoccupied with it, that she didn't hear the footsteps until they were only a few metres away. Flicking an ear, the wolf whirled around to see a silvery-grey animal slinking towards her. The animal seemed not to present an immediate threat - his body language and posture suggested he was calm, yet with all the talk of kidnappings in the Pridelands happening of late, Tsuki decided it was best not to let her guard down. Caustiously, she jumped up, slowly turning around. She could not turn her back on a stranger. Not that easily.
"Hello?" she tried, eyeing the stranger suspiciously, "Do you need some directions or something?"

Kiume smiled slightly, noting the lack of hostility in her voice as a sort of welcoming gesture, though in the back of his mind it sort of said, "Don't get too close stupid, it could be a rouse." He paid the voice no attention though, and moved closer with more confidence in his step. The male hadn't even noticed the suspicious look in the female's eyes. "Good evening," he greeted, his step getting light and lighter as he got closer.
The view of the figure looking into the sky was something that Kiume had hardly missed, but he had figured that it was mere gazing, as an onlooker would to a beautiful sunset. However, with what he'd accidentally overheard, it seemed to be more than that. She had been reading the stars, not merely looking at them as he usually did. Kiume's interest in her spiked up as soon as he realized this, and he bounded toward her with no regards to her body language whatsoever.
Before he got too close though, instinct forced him to stop. He was several feet away now, tongue lolling a little stupidly. "I noticed you were reading the stars," he said. "What do they say tonight?" He sat, his defenses completely down. After all, he saw no threat in the femme's disposition. Or...was he just overly energetic?

"Goo... good evening, sir..." the young female blinked as she noticed the stranger encroaching - it seemed that it was a male, not ancient, yet it looked as if he had seen plenty of moons, "You're out late tonight."
It was true - although many were nocturnal, Tsuki often slept during the day. The sun was warm on her, and this the time she preffered to doze off - after all, the day was for sleeping and the night was for watching, for talking to. Not many she knew, however, did the same - she supposed that maybe it day-sleeping was a lion thing after all.
The stranger's sudden movements brought Tsuki's attention back to the present - he seemed to move softly, yet quickly enough to almost float by her. She was relieved when he stopped - Tsuki could feel the fur on her neck bristling a little, and she did not want the stranger to know that she was feeling uncomfortable.
However, it only took a little trick of the tongue to get the female to completely lower her guard.
"Reading the stars?" she repeated, eyes sparkling with a sheen of interest at the mention of the sky, "Yes, actually. Yes, I was! Though, it's been really quite difficult lately. I can't exactly tell what it's saying to me. The clouds, you see..."
She squinted, and beckoned the male closer with a flick of her tail, then pointed a forepaw at the sky, as if to show him something.
"If you come over here, you can see this kind of milky blur... I'm not sure what it is, though. The clouds are terrible. See, even if you look over there," she paused, and then her eyes lit up, her mouth stretching into a full smile, "Hey, wait. You knew what I was trying to do, right? I mean, not many creatures know star-reading when they see it in practice. Does that mean you're an astrologist, too? I'm Tsuki, by the way. Pridelander. Nice to meet you."
Tsuki didn't notice the distant rumblings of the sky, nor did she think about the wind picking up. She was too fascinated by the stranger in front of her... he knew about the stars?!

The male was baffled slightly by her gestures. First she sounded shy, then she was quiet, then nervous, then out of nowhere she threw her guard down and was completely open. He blinked a little bit, picking up slowly when she gestured him forward. Kiume obliged, happy to move closer to another maned wolf, seeing as it had been a while. Not to say that the one he'd encountered last was a maned wolf, but he wasn't as pleasant. He sidled up next to her, looking where she'd pointed with her paw. However, try as he might he couldn't see exactly what she had been seeing. Lack of experience, no doubt.
Kiume laughed a little nervously, the sound echoing into the night. "Amateur astrologist, more like," he admitted through slightly gritted teeth. It was true that he considered himself an amateur astrologist, however he'd yet to put the skill to practice. "And uhh...I'm Kiume. Err...wanderer." He smiled, his tail moving slowly, to and fro, behind him. "Honestly though, I've never used the stars to guide me. I just picked up the idea a while ago. At the moment, I'm more of a........spectator, hoping to become an astrologist."
The conversation, to him, seemed to be going in the right direction. He was oddly comfortable, though he didn't considered that to be a bad thing. It just wasn't...normal. Kiume looked up at the sky again, trying to squint past where she had been pointing. "Looks a little like.....uhh......I dunno. Some sort of animal...maybe?" he offered, trying to help. In all honesty, he had no idea what the names nor the locations of the constellations were, and would probably be of no help at all.
"Oh, and it's nice to meet you too." The conversation, along with mention of his newly-found hobby and a pleasant companion of sorts, dulled his senses to the sounds of a distant storm coming closer. The wind had started to increase in speed, and Kiume blinked several times to get the water out of his eyes.
Wait a minute....water....?

Tsuki was now quite comfortable, not minding the friendly male standing by her side. She couldn't quite picture him as the type to steal away a cub into the night - he just seemed too, well, nice for that. The young she-wolf instantly relaxed, her form loosening its tense muscles. Tsuki was always cautious, but it didn't take very long to win over her trust, which, she supposed, was both admirable and foolish at once.
"It's great to meet another budding star-gazer, Mr Kiume!" she grinned, speaking energetically, as if new life had been come into her at the mention of 'astrologer', "Don't you worry about being a spectator - everyone must start somewhere! Even the budding artist drew stick figures in the dirt, and the bird had to learn how to fly. Being a spectator is just the first step to being something great, you know?!"
She laughed, jerking her head backwards to flick her mane out of her eyes. She ignored the moist scent in the air that was dampening down her fur a little - to Tsuki, this Kiume fellow was much more interesting. Surely, some upcoming rain wouldn't bother them much at all.
They might get wet, but hey, what was a free bath?
"Well, you see, Mr Kiume, sir... I'm used to all of this stuff. My mother was a bit of a live-wire. She just adored the sky, more than usual, you know? I guess gazing runs in my blood... or, at least, runs in the blood of maned wolves! You know, it's funny... I've actually never met another wolf outside of my family. Are you from around here, Kiume?"
Her eyes sparkled with genuine curiousity - she'd never seen a stranger like Kiume before. In a family of dark pelts, Tsuki had never laid eyes on a coat like Kiume's - it was silvery grey, like her mane, though what she found most peculiar were the strange markings burnt into what looked like the wolf's fur. They were so very strange... they almost looked like they came from another world. Tsuki hadn't seen anything like it.
"I guess I should get out more, huh?" She laughed aloud, extending a forepaw to Kiume in a friendly offer to 'shake', "If you're not from the Pridelands, then chances are that you're from... well... Kiume, where did you grow uh-"
Her next words were drowned out by the roar of the downpour - Tsuki blinked for a moment, mouth agape in shock, as the whole savannah lit up a fierce white. Almost instantly she heard it - an ear-splitting crack so loud, so close, that it pained her to listen.
"Ahhh!" she yelped, tail shooting between her legs, eyes widening with a sudden wave of terror - though, she redeemed herself with a small laugh and a smile, "Whoah, did you hear that? That scared the living daylights out of -"
KRRRRRRRRRRK!
The maned wolf ducked behind the male as another ferocious crack shook the earth. She felt for a moment a certain hopelessness - as if she were a pup again - but quickly collected herself, resisting the urge to put her paws over her eyes. However, despite her strength, the wolf could not stop the violent shaking that came with shock. A nearby tree had been split by lightning - it's branches were alight and smoking, flames hissing as they battled against the downpour. The storm, it seemed, was right over them.
Tsuki was now drenched, her fur flattened against her body, shivering not from the cold, but mainly from fear.
Danger.
"Kiume, this is big," Tsuki's voice quivered, despite her attempts to stay strong, "We need t-t-to get out of here."

(Sped it up a little, hope you don't mind. ^.^')
The male laughed a little, shaking his head at the level of formality she'd been using. "Just Kiume, would be fine," he said at a momentary pause between breaths in her small speech. An eccentric one, he thought as he listened intently. His tail was swooshing to and fro, eyes alight with the budding interest in astrology budding inside of him. A small smile had grown into a rather wide grin, and he somehow managed to completely ignore the inevitable storm.
That is, until she was suddenly silenced, and all that he could hear was the roar of lightning so nearby. Kiume's body tensed immediately, standing on all fours and looking about. He looked strong and capable of handling a storm, but underneath it all he was...well, scared, to put it simply. His eyes first looked for Tsuki, who he found huddled behind him, shaking. The male turned around and nudged her lightly. "C'mon then, we've gotta find shelter..." he said, trying to sound as reassuring as he could.
The rain beat down on the both of them as he searched for any signs of shelter. His mind had wandered from their previous conversation, now completely concentrated on the task at hand. Unfortunately, being a foreigner, he had a very hard time with it. C'mon...c'mon......just any cave. A small one even...... he thought in desperation. He constantly checked on Tsuki beside him, just to make sure she was alright.
He felt his fur slick and heavy from the onslaught of water, and he breathed hard just to keep up the pace. "You're from here right?!" he yelled over the storm. "So where's the nearest cave from here!?" Kiume, despite himself, was tiring more quickly than usual. They needed shelter fast, or he'd collapse soon. His azure eyes darted frantically from one line of vision to the next in hopes of finding sanctuary.
It came many minutes later, when Kiume was at his weakest. His tail was down, and his pace had significantly slowed. Had it not been for Tsuki, he probably would never have made it that far. The cave wasn't spacious, probably only large enough to house two or three others their size. However big, it was safety from the storm, and it was a miracle they'd happened upon it while in the midst of the storm.
Kiume dragged himself inside, immediately collapsing once he was out of the rain, panting heavily. "Lucky us..." he said between a breath or two.

"Oh my gosh," Tsuki's heart was beating so fast, she felt like it might explode. She wasn't sure if was from the storm, or from looking at the strength Kiume had shown as he had pushed forward, leading the way for the two of them. She had almost forgotten her fear admid the terror of the storm as she ran alongside him, instead watching him press on, muscles rippling under a wet, water-soaked coat. Eventually, even, Kiume had found them safety.
Instantly, Tsuki found herself filling up with admiration for the young male. Sheer admiration, it was, and a sense of intense curiousity - she wanted to know more about him. It was not everyday that she met a maned wolf like herself, and even less did she meet one so brave.
She felt herself panic as he slipped, exhausted, to the floor. Genuinely concerned, she gently nudged his side, willing for him to be able to speak. If he stopped breathing, she wasn't sure what she'd do.
"Kiume, are you... are y-y-you alright?" she stuttered, still shaking from the bitter cold, though she tried her best to now control her voice - she didn't want, after all, to be viewed as a fragile little girl. She was going to be tough, and get through this. Plus, Kiume had helped her... it was her turn now!
She turned, muzzle down to the ground, sniffing furiously at the cave's floor. At once she caught onto a scent, and quickly spotted it - a lone mouse had strayed caustiously out of a crack in the wall to inspect the cave's new visitors. At once, she dropped to her chest, hind legs still up and bottom in the air, crawling commando-style towards the rodent. It sensed her prescence all too late - in a second she had scooped it up into her muzzle, snapped its' neck with a sickening crunch, and trotted quietly over to Kiume's side. Once there, she said a little prayer in her head, thanking the prey's spirit (a practice she always did), and dropped the little body at Kiume's paws.
"Eat," she ordered, though her voice was gentle, "It'll get your strength up. If you die on me, I'll never forgive myself."
Tsuki's muzzle stretched into a grin at that, and she, too, flopped onto the ground beside him, muscles aching.
"Darn, that was scary," she laughed, softly, "But we got through it. Guess we're gonna' be here until the rain eases, eh?"
[ That's fine! xD And sorry for the delay, I was doing my School Certificate Trials. ><; I'm on holidays now, though! =D I might be gone for three days (*going to a farm*) but I promise I'll be more active when I get back. xD;; Sorry about that, Kei! (Perfectly fine! Yay for vacations though!! XD;')
The male breathed heavily for several minutes, his body trying to keep up with his mind's desire to get up. He felt her nudge, and sensed the worry in her voice. He wanted to say something to tell her that he'd be fine, but if he did anything other than breath he was sure he'd use up the very last of his energy at the moment. The male smelt the food beside him, and his stomach rumbled slightly. "S.....sorry. I d..don't have the energy r.....right now..." he said with a strained voice. "You go ahead..." He sounded very weak.
The storm was definitely a big one. It felt as though the cave was being tossed about in its fury, even if it was made of stone. It had been a while since they'd made it inside the quaint cave, and Kiume felt he had enough energy now to sit up, so he tried...and failed. He sat up about half way, and soon found himself leaning against Tsuki. "Sorry..." he mumbled quietly, then lay back down. His body was shivering almost violently, and he was trying hard to breath normally, but found that he could only take shallow breaths.
Desperate for any sort of warmth, he moved as close as he could to her. He was too cold to even realize how close they were exactly. Had he realized that there was almost no room between them, he would have been blushing and moved all the way to the other side of the cave. "We can wait the storm out 'til morning..." he said, still weakly. "And don't worry," he continued with a grin. "It's a bit late to reply, but I won't die on you. I've survived captivity, a little storm can't kill me.."

Kiume's dismissal of the meat made Tsuki worry a little - and her concern grew as the silver wolf's chest trembled with cold, each of his rattling breath's seemingly shaking more violently than the last. She decided to regain an upright position, to keep strength. Someone, after all, had to keep watch - and it honestly looked like Kiume couldn't handle that right now. He'd done the hard work - and she would follow it up. Of course, despite her putting on a strong face, there was absolutely no doubt that Tsuki was frightened. She had been through many storms in her life, of course, but none so far away from family, and none with weather conditions so severe. She had been living a sheltered life. She could not deny that she was scared. That was why she had held a strong gaze on Kiume, silently willing him to eat the mouse. If he could get stronger, if he could eat... then maybe, they could both get out of this faster. Her spirits, however, fell as soon as she realised that Kiume could hardly lift a paw.
"If you won't touch it, I'll leave it here, then," she nodded, eyes glinting in gratitude, "It's dead, so it can't go far. It'll be here when you need it. I'm sure there are other mice in here, too. I'll find one for myself, I su-"
She stopped right there as she felt wet fur press against her own body, and out of the corner of her eyes she noticed that Kiume had leant against her. It was so cold, so very cold, yet Tsuki couldn't help but feel a strange warmth flood through her body as her heart-beat quickened.
"You're okay," she murmered, shooting him a hopeful smile, "You just need a rest, that's all. Gee, if only Hantu were here... ah, she's my lion friend. I mentored her when she was young, showed her how to hunt. She's studying to be a healer, that girl, so if she were around, I could get her to have a look at you..." Tsuki, at this paused, and lowered her voice, "She's not around, though. I guess it can't be helped. No use wishing these things if they're not going to happen. I'll try sending a howl later... perhaps someone may hear it."
It was wistful thinking, really - a mere howl would be lost in the roar of the storm, and Tsuki knew it. But it felt good to have a chat, even in Kiume could not find the strength to reply - instead, it comforted her to hear a voice, and prevented Kiume from going to sleep. Tsuki was scared that, if sleep crept up on him, he might not be able to wake up. It was selfish, really, since sleep could also be a potential remedy to his condition, but the young girl couldn't bear to be alone through the storm.
She felt surprised, though, as the young stranger started to speak.
"Sorry," he had said, and Tsuki's eyes narrowed.
"You don't need to apologise! You're not a burden at all!" she snapped, looking away and turning a faint pink, before realising that Kiume had been refering to leaning against her, "Oh, ah! The leaning... well, that's... that's okay. I really don't mind, actually, it reminded me of what I used to do with my brother. It's comforting."
She was happy when he moved back towards her - he seemingly hadn't heard her, or didn't reply, which was fine either way. They needed as much warmth as they could get, and she understood that. This was survival. An adventure, even.
"Morning's fine," she chuckled, her tail giving a brief flick of amusement, "It's not like I can look at an angry sky. It's lucky that we were alone when it hit, really. I don't know about you, but I'm not good with thunder."
She shivered, and then gave a faint laugh - though, her smile faded off her lips at Kiume's next few, solemn words.
"Cap... captivity?" she asked, genuinely confused, "What's captivity?"

The wolf's ears twitched, teeth chattering almost quietly, body shivering with the cold still dripping from his fur. The words and phrases and sentences she's spoken to him were lost to him, and the few things that did register he could barely respond to. Despite his lack of conversing with her, the young female seemed adamant not to let him sleep. A reasonable want during such a storm, and Kiume didn't mind it either. It kept him from drifting to perhaps an endless sleep. The moments felt like hours to him, and several had passed before he opened an eye to look at her. He'd spoken a word too many in his weakness, and he inwardly cursed himself for slipping. In fact, the thoughts of his past hadn't come back to him until just now. Maybe because he was facing a deadly situation, or maybe because he was just plain weak.
Part of him was glad that she didn't know the meaning of the word, the other part just the opposite. If she's known what it meant, perhaps he wouldn't have to speak of it. But he'd gone that far, and it didn't seem fair to keep her in the dark, even though she still just a stranger to him. Kiume gave himself a few minutes to regain a bit of his strength before sitting back up again. He couldn't help but lean against her for support since he felt too weak to sit up on his own, but all thoughts were now circling around his past. The thing he'd tried his entire life of freedom to forget, but in the back of his mind he knew he was trying to accomplish the impossible.
"Captivity...basically means humans captured me," he said quietly. He knew he was close enough to her so she could hear him, so he didn't want to spend any extra energy on emphasizing his voice. "My entire family was captured, actually, and my mother and father were skinned alive." He shuddered, a bit of water pricking his eyes. "I wasn't old enough for that, so they kept me and used me for other forms of entertainment. Basically treating me like a slave of sorts, forcing me to learns tricks and degrade myself for their entertainment. Every wolf has his own sense of self-worth after all, and I basically lost all of mine to those monsters. They branded me," he lifted a paw to show her the mark, "And barely fed me. We moved around a lot, but eventually they got caught and I was set free a long while after I was caught."
The finality of the last sentence was followed by silence, and Kiume reached down and began to eat the mouse quietly, forcing the loneliness back down inside of him. It was enough to remember the incident, but to relive the torment or lonely thoughts and sleepless nights would be too much for him. Especially right now, while he was already physically weak.

"That's just..."
Tsuki's eyes widened as horrors spilt from Kiume's tongue. She thought about her own family, and thought about the ones she loved so much being captured and skinned. What would it feel like to have no control, to be rendered 'useless', while the ones around you were all in pain? Her stomach gave a sickening twist, and the wolf shivered. She had no idea that a world so cruel existed, and that reality could be so cruel. It sounded like a nightmare... and Tsuki meekly hoped that Kiume was either spinning tall-tales, or delusional.
"And these creatures," she started, voice shaking a little, "... they decided to torture you like that? Are you... are you trying to scare me, Kiume?"
Her brow furrowed a little, and she looked away, averting her gaze.
"I don't believe you. I can't believe you. Something like that... it's too awful. How can you joke around about something like tha- "
But what if it wasn't a joke?
She stopped herself straight away, slightly appalled at herself for her sudden outburst of doubt. How could Kiume be joking around about such a sensitive issue? And the markings on his paws... only now did they catch her eye, and Tsuki forced herself not to stare. Instead, she bowed her head apologetically.
"I'm... sorry to hear that," she said, quietly, "How... long ago has it been since you were freed?"

He finished what he felt he could stomach and nudged the mouse his companion's way. After licking the blood from his maw he looked at her with a bit of a sad smile. "I'm not kidding, but it's alright. It's life, after all, and I've already come to accept that it's the fate for some of us." Kiume felt a shiver run down his spine when an earsplitting roar came from outside, in the storm, and for a desperate change of subject he sidled up closer to her. "Sounds like that storm isn't going away any time soon..." he commented when she went quiet.
Then her question came, and his ears twitched. "It's...been a long while since then. I've come to terms with my past, so don't be sorry." He sounded a bit spiteful, and he growled lowly and lowered his head. "Sorry..."
Though he accepted his past, he wasn't comfortable bringing it all back up and talking about it. In actuality, it was more like he was forcing himself to try and forget it all...but he was failing miserably. The wolf knew this fact, however he...refused to admit it at the moment.

"It's quite alright," Tsuki answered, wishing Kiume hadn't apologised, "The past is the past, after all. Maybe all you need is... a brighter future. To help get your mind off things."
She looked a little uncomfortable after this, and decided in an instant to correct herself.
"I-I-I mean, well... don't forget. I don't think anyone could ever forget something like that. But..." she paused, "You don't seem like the kind of wolf to dwell on such things, Kiume. Where do you come from, anyway? You seem stronger than most pridelander wolves."
At this, she flopped onto her back, looking up at the cave wall - and chuckled a little as a stray drop of water dripped from the ceiling and ran down her muzzle. It turned her attention to the noise outside - no longer, it seemed, was the rain pouring down in buckets. A pleasant sound of gentle, trickling water had since replaced the rain's thunderous roar.
She also noticed that Kiume, finally, was eating. It made her chest warm, seeing her 'saviour' rip into her gift - and, when he had finished and offered it to her, she gratefully obliged.
"Hey, don't apologise, nmmhmmm," she grinned, scoffing down the mouse mid-sentence, " See? Looks like it's clearing up. The weather's easing. We can sleep the rest of the night off."

He chuckled lightly as the femme continued to ramble for a while after he silenced himself. Surprisingly, with her in company he managed to cheer up a lot quicker than he usually would have if he were alone and reminiscing about his past. It made sense too, since from the beginning he felt comfortable around her already. Perhaps it was because of their shared interest in astrology. Whatever it was, Kiume was glad for it. The wolf yawned and followed Tsuki's actions, rolling over onto his back and sidling up as close as he could next to her to keep warm. "You never know with these things, we could just be in the eye of the storm. Hopefully you're right though...it's a little hard to sleep in the middle of a hurricane." His eyes soon trained onto a stalactite hanging from the ceiling of the cave, and he considered replying to her previous comments.
"I wouldn't forget," he said, breaking the silence that had fallen between them. "You're right, it'd be impossible to forget. You're also right about me not usually dwelling on it. I tend not to...I guess..maybe you could blame it on the gloomy weather." He smiled slightly and turned his head to face her. "I can't remember where I'm from...but it's not from around here. And I appreciate the compliment, but I'm not all that strong really. It just looks like I am at first glance."
He let out another yawn, finally deciding to close his eyes. They'd been drooping for the last minute or so, and the wolf's will power just disappeared after his last statement. "Let's take advantage of the calm though...and sleep a little.." And within seconds he was fast asleep.
