As the elders would say, nothing good ever came down from the mountains in winter, and as the ivory unicorn stared at the rolling mists, she didn't doubt the teachings for a minute. The low clouds were dark and heavy with precipitation, and judging from the way they moved; beneath the cool gray the landscape was taking a severe winter beating.
Point for the old ones.
Half turning Amarinne surveyed her surroundings, trying to find an appropriate place to hole up for the duration of the storm.

Journey was way out of her element.
How she had ended up here, where ever it was, she had no clue. At one moment, she was taking a lovely winter stroll, dancing in the softly falling snow like she was an innocent foal yet again.
But now... now, she had no idea where, or even when, she was. How much time had passed since she last saw Oliver, the young foal she had taken a strong liking to since she knew his father? Had she traveled far enough to never be able to see them again?
Journey shook the thought out of her mind as the storm intensified. She squinted against the wind and sought refuge in a shallow rock cave, barely protected from the harsh elements outside. Well, at least she had shelter. She had heard of foals getting stuck up in these mountains (she was assuming she was in the mountains, or thereabouts) and dying from the intense cold and merciless weather.
Shivering slightly, she shrank into the corner to wait for the storm to pass.

Snorting softly when the wind picked up and her options became fewer, Amarinne made her decision just as the chill air grew colder yet and the winds started to howl around her own ghostly form. There was a shallow cave.. not her first choice but it was surely better then staying out in the open.
Carefully picking her way towards the entrance, she sniffed experimentally beofre entering, whickering just in case a fellow forest dweller had also chosen the spot.
Wouldn't want to startle a bear...

Journey stuffed herself as far into the cave as she possibly could, the harsh winds still ripping at her fragile, insulation-less wings.
Then she heard something. Was it a soft whicker outside? It couldn't have been... or was it?
She could not be sure. There was only one way to find out.
"Is there anyone out there?" she called in her dreamy voice, shouting over the whistling winds.
