Moved to the -right- forum because I'm a dork. biggrin ; ...and subsequently moved back because the 'right forum' is now gone. Probably for the best, all things considered. >.>;

((I'm fairly sure no one is going to join this, but I have to get it out of my head before it taunts me for not doing anything with it. XD))

"Celtic Guardian! Attack with Magnificent Sword Slash!"

"Not so fast, ace! I play Block Attack, stopping your Celtic Guardian cold!"

"Oh, I don't think so. I play Trap Jammer, negating your clever little ruse!"

"Hah! You can't stop me so easily! I play Seven Tools of the Bandit!"

"But wait, there's more! I... hey, wait a se--

and so does the world turn...

This world -- this crazy, mixed-up world of ours where a simple card game is the basis of society -- is in fact one of twelve. Twelve worlds, the same yet somehow different, existing side by side, connected by an invisible force that none of them can comprehend. We exist on the first, where people are normal and the only real interesting thing is a game we call 'Duel Monsters', brought to life by extravagant holographic devices.

The second is where these 'Duel Monsters' exist. Yes, every figure on every card in the game exists in this parallel second world, governed by rules very similar to those in our own. Gravity exists, air and water are vital, and nature works in the same delicate balance we're accustomed to.

The other ten... we're not entirely sure about yet.

But it is no coincidence that our little game mirrors the creatures in that other world and fantastic powers they possess. These parallel dimensions, you could say, influence each other, keeping everything coherent but allowing for every world to be unique. Sometimes we even bring these creatures into our world, even for only scant moments, through our game... or perhaps just sheer belief that somewhere those creatures exist. It is with that phenomenon in mind that we poke and prod at ways to enter that other world day in and day out. Why?

Because we can.

This is not a story about us, however. This story is about them.

This story is about Duel Monsters.

Welcome to Meanwhile, In Another Dimension... where we focus on the -real- stars of Yu-Gi-Oh: the monsters! neo in particular because he's awesome but never used DAMN YOU KONAMI *rage*

The basis of the explanation in the first post comes from Yu-Gi-Oh GX, which is precisely why it's totally unbelievable and crack-laden. Other than the setup, everything is going to be totally BSed because there is little to no exposure of the 'monster world' that's mentioned twice between both series.

I realize that the 'official' explanation for the monsters is the whole Egypt-based BS about 'ba' and 'ka', but if Yu-Gi-Oh can rape its own canon, why can't we? :3

Here, there is no Yugi or Kaiba. No Joey or Tea. Not even little Jessica Sue, which is totally fine because her voice is second place on the list of 'most annoying voices in dubs ever'. Just the monsters and what people think they might act like or do on their spare time!

...

...uh...

OH. Rules. Guild rules apply same as here, boiling down to 'be civil'. Character 'applications' are little more than claiming a card(or cards even) and playing them out to whatever you think they might be! ...With a few limitations. Any monster that has a specific name, like "Warrior Dai Grepher" or "Horus the Black Flame Dragon" is going to be limited to just one in the world(since they're kinda unique and all). Anything that -isn't- specifically named, such as "Dark Magician" or "Harpie Lady" can be more numerous, so long as there's distinct differences between versions of the same character. For anything else, just use your intuition and make things reasonable -- there's fandom and then there's just excessiveness.

With that said, go nuts!

{{I do say, I'm very interested in this idea, are you still going to do it? If so I would love to play The Shadow Tamer and possibly Reaper of Card and Lady of Faith...if that would be allowed? }}

((o_o Holy crap, someone posted! If I(or someone else) can come up with a decent starting plot, then yeah, I'm totally still up for it. X3 But I'll have to get some more... stuff up if this is going to be a full-fledged RP, though, setting info and whatnot. I'll work on it if you're still interested~))

{{I'm more than interested, if you want any help with anything feel free to ask. I love this idea, something I've pondered for quite a while, back when I was into Yu-Gi-Oh in the biggest way and wrote the odd fan fic or two. So yeah I would love to play this out ^_^}}
PostPosted: Sat Dec 15, 2007 1:30 pm

((Awesome~ XD The first thing that comes to mind is figuring out the setting. Initially I was just going to convert the map they used in the Crapsule--er, Capsule Monsters arc since it encompassed most environments, but it wasn't quite as expansive as I had hoped. I know they had a glimpse of the 'monster world' in the main series itself at one time, but I have no idea what episodes to look up for references. x_x

Second comes plot -- when I first made the thread, I was under the assumption no one was going to join, so I didn't put much thought into it. I'm all for freeform character development, but if there isn't an underlying story somewhere, things just kinda stagnate.

Third, and last, is this passing notion I had about "Visitors"; having a slight tie to GX's explanation, I'm wondering if there should be a few -- VERY few -- duelist-types that find their way in; yeah, it opens up the gate for Sues and Stus, but there's also a chance to poke fun at the fandom and how most enact it. (e.g, "homigawd it's dark magician girl omgomgomg ;_; i'm your biggest fan, mana-chaaaan!" "...That's weird. You're weird, go away! D:")

There might be other things, but I can't think of them at the moment. x.x))

{{Oh yes I think I remember that a little it as indeed un-expansive to say the least. Hmm I'm trying to remember that, it's been ages since I saw the main (4 kids) series and even longer since I saw the one set before that, where the characters and story was much closer to the manga, but I could certainly try looking around for it.

I totally agree with that, I mean freeform characters is good in one respect but if they don't have any reason for being there and doing the things they do it might seem pretty pointless. Perhaps there could be several underlying plots, for example maybe in the oh so clichéd show (at times) that the monster of a darker nature, maybe those with dark attributes are well 'evil and light are 'good' and perhaps the balance as to kept in place. For one plot it could a sort of war type thing... That sounds so crap sorry >_< I just thought with the whole light and dark it might be a start, the other such as water, earth and the like could be perhaps neutral or a few could be.... I'll stop rambling now xD.

That sounds interesting, I agree we could end up with some strange people and Sues and Stus, but in the long run there is the chance to poke fun. Personally when I went through a stage of themed roleplays and writing fanfictions I tried my hardest not to invent Stus and Sues, they ruin the ideas and such. Sure there's nothing wrong with liking a fictional character but acting like an idiot or worse an anti-social person with a bad past who happens to know them from childhood... Is a little too far...Rant over yet again xD

I think you've covered it really, I supposed another idea I just thought of with the visitors and such was a sort of shadow game feel to it. Perhaps the visitors could lose in a 'Shadow Game' and end up there that could be why one a FEW could arrive.... Just an idea.... I'm bad at this. }}

((Ooh, I like the Light vs. Dark war thing~ It's not like there aren't enough in each attribute, after all. XD [including neo, hell yeah] Though now the question is if things would kick-off right on the front lines of a major conflict or perhaps a bit of an introduction by other characters somewhere else that, while not in the thick of things, is still affected by the resource-draining nature of the war. And again, this brings up the issue of some kind of rudimentary map and locations. x_x I'll go riffle through... I think it's the DOOM arc? Whichever one has Dartz, and see if I can't pick anything up.

Also, the Shadow Game idea works quite well -- The 'official' explanation behind Shadow Games before 4kids got to it is that the loser simply dies, but that aside, no one ever said what the 'Shadow Realm' is or what happens when you go there. You're not bad at this at all~ X3

EPIPHANY EDIT: The war idea is really good -- it kind of makes Duel Monsters look silly when the real battles behind the game are much more life-changing/threatening. What's a few lifepoints when there's huge forces of creatures fighting and dying over differences in ideals~? And better yet, if the whole 'using duel monsters to bring monsters over' idea sticks, the game is just really, really rude. XP))

{{I think that perhaps it could start with an introduction, where some of the characters, are like you say not in the thick of it but are still feeling the effects, sort of like a Lord of the Rings type battle, where they start off at one point and find that they have to travel to the main battle to help. If that makes sense. Oh yes I know which one you mean now, I'll try and help find something of it, but cannot promise.

Glad you thought so, perhaps it could be sort of instead of death the punishment for losing in a shadow game with a certain person or persons is to spend time or in true Yu-Gi-Oh Style an eternity in the Shadow Realm.

That is true, it could sort of create a side plot, for example, the said few that would come into the roleplay could say, be in danger from most monsters, more so the dark, because of the mockery of the game that they play. Even more so if they are Sues and Stus. }}

((Ooh... yeah... yeah, I like that. X3(i especially love the images i'm getting in the vein of fellowship of the ring XD) I'm only really concerned about a map because I'm sure we're going to have to BS up some town/region names; we gotta know where everyone is and/or going, right? Besides, I found the episode(s) I was looking for and... well, there wasn't as much as I remembered or expected, though there was a nice image of a sprawling forest/grassland with a mountain range and innocuously placed castle. It's -something-. ^^; If all other inspiration fails, I'll just hit up Seventh Sanctum for some random names and stick 'em on a sketchy map somewhere. x_x

That's an interesting idea~ Definitely something to keep in mind!

And yeah, we totally have to terrorize some fans somewhere along the line. XD (oh god, i just got the most wonderful little mental movie -- someone makes like a portal or something and upon touching down(in the middle of a large-scale conflict, no less) immediately declares that they're going to take over; both sides, consisting of quite a few multiple-story beasts, just kind of stare at him for a while. then, uh, i dunno, a Basic Insect chews on his foot or something) ...I totally have to resist squeeing, this is gonna be -so- awesome once it takes off~ X3))

((glad you did, it just seemed to be the best thing I could relate it to and it would make sense, sort of the different attributes could be the different races type of thing then you would get some who tried to keep out of the war or kept to themselves (like Hobbits and such) XD you can tell I was watching Lord of the Rings resently can't you. Anyway I agree if all else fails we could just invent a map of certain areas because like you said, if we don't we'll probably all get confused, or some idiot will just go from one place to another when really it would be X amount of miles ¬_¬

I agree about the fans and that idea of yours sounds very funny, it would be classic because no doubt someone would certainly do something stupid like that along the way. You just know they would. This is indeed going to be awesome and I think we're getting closer ^_^}}

((Mm, closer but not quite... I actually -did- draw a world map and have a few major places figured out, but it's not quite near done yet. x.x At this point, I'm about ready to just say 'screw the details', pick a region/kingdom name out of a damn hat and get this thing going. @.x))

((Hokay, I think we've got something! Let's get this show on the road!))

It was not a pleasant day in the Shining Alpine Kingdom of Castmith. To say it was would be a total and utter lie, a crime that, coincidentally, happened to be punishable by death in Castmith. No, things were not happy and joyous at all: the citizens were in an uproar, the nobility was worried to sickness, and the entire militia had been mobilized. King Castmith XI stood restlessly in the war room, pacing around an aged parchment map of his kingdom with figures to represent the known positions of both friendly and enemy forces. The picture it presented was grim at best, and only time would tell if it would ever improve.

From the way the battle looked, time could probably laze around for a while: both forces raged and battled with unearthly ferocity, bringing steel against steel, claw against carapace, and magic against machine. To the untrained eye, the whole affair might have looked like an uncontrolled mess with beasts flailing wildly just trying to earn their next meal, but two very distinct legions were clashing over much-needed territory. With such powerful creatures on both sides, it seemed like the battle of Light against Dark would never come to an end.

But even a few could change the tide of battle.

Probably not this few, but Castmith needed all the help he could get.

In a great showing of foresight, recruitment flyers and representatives of Castmith's army had been stationed around the port city of Shardnis to the south, a bustling marketplace and tourist attraction all at once. Normally, things related to major political powers were outlawed in Shardnis, being a neutral city, but the situation north was dire enough to allow a small exception. Sadly, even with the sheer coverage of pleas for assistance, not many paid much mind to the signs and even fewer took interest in the Castmith soldiers beckoning for aid. Those who did were probably out of their mind. That or they were extremely bored of living.

One man just happened to be both, but we'll come to that soon enough.

((Thank my good friends elsewhere for the region/city names~ X3))

{{Wow! Loved that post. I suppose until more people join we will be allowed to control a couple of characters and such?}}

The 'war' or clash of light and dark was indeed being to take its toll on the world and lives of many, yet few seemed to even care for this. Of course most would see there was no hope of coming out alive if you did sign up, only a fool’s hope. Luckily enough that’s what a few people had, hope. They of course didn't see it to be a fool’s hope; on the contrary they saw it as a way to prove their worth to fight for their freedom and of course to bring themselves fame.

Shardnis, being the port city it was, of course was often full of people who were passing through, stopping by, or even ones using it for a base to travel around easier and safer, the war was indeed taking a great effect. Although even these people, the ones who might be travellers not resting anywhere still refused to aid the soldiers or hear the pleas. Were they all this heartless? Did none of them see that if they didn't fight soon enough the battle would come to them and would they not be ready. In short, no they wouldn't be ready and no they didn't see.

The few who did decide to join often got funny looks or ridiculed or told that it was only a 'fools hope' and they would in theory be committing suicide.

One woman however didn't care much for being called a fool; come to think of it she didn't care much for herself. After all she knew she couldn't live forever and she was bored with her current situations.

{{Sorry, I know that's a bit bad, hopefully I will get better, normally in Roleplays my frist post is a little strange then I get better at it xD.}}
