Shaking sand from his mane and coat, Danzi carefully tread the paths along the Prideland borders. Sometimes the best prey lurked out here, near the edges of the territory. It was like a safe zone, a no-man's land, between the Pridelands and the next pride's territory. In this case... It was that thin strip that ran along the borders of the Moutojami desert on along past the Elephant Graveyard and then the Southlands, which technically just a land full of rogues.
This particular day, his mind was elsewhere. It was off in the dunes, thinking of Ripuka. What impact had he made...? How many cubs had he sired, exactly...? Had it even worked...? He let out a sigh, hoping for her to never know who he truly was. It would kill them all - Him, for the lie would crash down, her, for she had bred with a Pridelander, and especially... The cub or cubs.
He shook his head a little, then looked up. Somebody was in the Pridelands... And they weren't a member of the pride. Black tail tip flicking, he hurried towards the strange scent. The sight that greeted him was a massive red lion, walking through the lands, calm as day. The slightly diminutive lion looked at him strangely, then approached him. "Hey, who are you and what brings you into the Pridelands?" Danzi had to be startled at himself - His words had a sharper tone than they normally did. Was he going mad...? Or was his age starting to show..?

Pausing in his steps, the aging Firekin looked at the other lion... And almost thought he was seeing the runt of a Moutojami litter. Naturally, his first question was why such a lion was in the Pridelands. "I'm on my way to the desert, of course... Why are you here? This is the last place I'd think one of the Blood would be..." The rust-orange coat honostly DID have him baffled - He'd grown up under the impression all Pridelanders had yellow and brown coats, after all.

It was Danzi's turn to be surprised now. This lion, whom he'd never met before... Thought he was a Firekin?! He paused in this and thought of the deception he'd pulled on the lioness. Okay, yes... He looked like a Firekin... A very SMALL Firekin.. Time to see if he could keep pulling it off. He had to admit, it was getting fun. "Small stature is not something acceptible, if my memory serves me right." He tilted his head, eyeing the massive male. "I was left here, and raised here, when I was just a juvenile." Somehow, his 'second self' was becoming far more complex by the day.

Bodaway nodded a bit, somewhat understanding. Small Firekin, as far as he knew, weren't something one SAW. "I see. Well, little Firekin, don't mind me as I head home." A big smile graced the lion's face. Clearly... Age had done a number to the fierce lion. He wasn't as cruel as he had been when he himself had been a juvenile. "What would be your name, though? So I may remember." He bowed very slightly, smiling still. "If you are curious, I am Bodaway, son of Rowtag and Keezheekoni."

Oh, this was a nice pickle... He hadn't thought of parental names to back up the claim. "I am Makaa'kali, son of... Of..." This wasn't easy... He thought of a fast excuse. "I'm sorry for stuttering, it's been so long since I was left here, it's hard to remember their names." He furrowed his brow, as if trying to remember... While really trying to come up with names. "Faraji and Hadia." Oh, he hoped they worked... Fire and heat were as good as he could come up with.

A black eyebrow went up over a golden eye as the larger male mulled this over. "I've never heard of them... But then..." He chuckled, the sound rumbling in his chest. "It HAS been a while since I was last home, so they may have been born and died while I was gone." A flick of his tail and he started to walk again. "At any rate... I must be going now, little bitter flame..." He paused, nose twitching. "If that truly IS your name." A knowing smile and a certain look in his eyes showed that, even with his age... He knew. "After all... The scent of the desert is only on TOP of you, not PART of you... Or it IS part... But not the same desert. But... We'll keep that between you and me."

The shock was evident on the rust-colored male's face. Actually, it was blatantly obvious. "But how...?" Of course... He possitively wreaked of being a Pridelander. Not that he should have felt insulted by it... He started after the male, noting how he seemed to be amused and not at all threatening that a Pridelander had tried to pass off as a Firekin. "And you're not trying to kill me or anything...? I just... I just told a blatant lie to you of who I am... And you saw through it, and... And.. You're walking away!" It was rather clear - All presumptions he'd had of most male Firekin had just been crumbled by a lion who had a few gray flecks to his blood red coat.

Bodaway let out a deep, rumbling laugh. "Your scent, of course! I may have been gone since I was but a juvenile, but I DO still know the scent of a Pridelander when I meet one. And you..." He took a deep whiff, making a face purely on instinct. "Possitively wreak of it. But I'm curious... Why would you pretend to be a Firekin, little Pridelander? And who are you, really?"

Danzi's ears flattened back in his mane as he sat down, looking away. "Because a lioness I have affions for is a Firekin... And she has bore my seed under the impression that I am Makaa'kali, the wandering Firekin." He looked back up, dark green eyes flashing just a bit. "I am Danzi, son of deceased Lord Taka and the rogue Madaha." He left his ineage at that - Somehow, he just figured everybody as old as this lion knew who Taka was, or had at the least heard of him.

A frown replaced the normally jovial expression Bodaway almost always seemed to have. "What you have done could very well jeopardise your life, her life, and any new lives you have created. You had better pray that nobody finds out. Tell me her name, so that shoul she ask if I know you, I may tell her you are either my nephew or my son. It would be believable, as I've wandered a lot, and found more than one Firekin turned rogue."

Pain filled the rust-colored lion's eyes as he glanced towards the desert. "I know... That is why I ask that you not tell them who I truly am..." His ears flicked forward a bit, then back. "You would do that... For a complete stranger?" He looked towards Pride Rock, where his real uncle he'd never known had lived, and had died.... "Tell Ripuka... That I'm your son. That would be believable, wouldn't it?" He rose up, heading to the sands. "After all... Our markings are alike enough... And it's not hard to imagine it, is it?" They DID have the same black manes, after all... sans the fact Bodaway's was streaked with red that looked like ribbons.

Bodaway nodded, then started on for the desert as well. "I will tell her this... Makaa'kali." Why did he choose to refer to Danzi as his second choice of name? Perhaps it was the idea that a Pridelander, the lions considered in his youth to be inferior and weak, wished to be a mighty and strong Firekin. It was almost like an honor in his mind. But not entirely good - They were supposed to fear him, not want to be like him. This didn't stop them, though, did it? He took a deep breath as grasses gave way to dirt and then... Desert... It was wonderful, the burn of the sand. Bodaway looked over at Danzi, smiling at him. "Should you ever come to the Firekin for... Any reason... I will vouch for your safe passage under the guise of a pureblood, left to die for being a tiny runt, but grown strong and wishing to return home."

Black-tipped tail flicking a bit, Danzi glanced at Pride Rock again, then after the desert dweller. He nodded, letting a smile onto his maw. "Thank you... I'll go back one day... I can't stay away forever... I have to admit... The desert is an addiction..." He turned and went back to his hunt, mulling that over. Yes... It was an addiction... His addiction...
