PostPosted: Sat Sep 22, 2007 11:40 am

Alphas:
The leaders of the pack, the ones in charge and most dominate of the rest of the pack. Only can be one male and one female. They 'own' the territory, and with the assistance of their Beta's and Zeta's, protect their land. They carry out most of the big decisions, and can promote or relegate any wolf to any level of their pack. Alphas will always have final say in everything, and are obeyed by all members of the pack at all times. They create rules and boundaries for the pack and decide on ranking, courting, breeding and accepting and/or rejecting new wolves. They also can banish a wolf from the pack if they feel it necessary. Occasionally, Alphas may call Formal Group Hunts along with the Delta wolves. There may only be one Alpha and one Alphaess.
(Dominant stances, tail held high, ears forward, bright eyes.)

Council Wolves:

Council wolves are formerly known as Gammas or Betas; intelligent wolves serving as advisors, and are chosen by the Alpha. These wolves are usually older, but not always, and have demonstrated that they are wise and can guide others in the pack. These wolves are at the most highly respected, other than the Alphas, and also help carry out many of the big decisions that need to be made. They have a say in punishment for disobedient wolves, and often cases of these are brought before the Council if deemed to small for the Alpha, or the Alpha is not present. Of course, the Alpha often overlooks the Council, and has final say in everything. There may be up to 4 members of the Council.
(Fairly dominant stances, ears forward, tail slightly lower)

P.s.i Wolves:

Head wolves. These are intelligent, experienced wolves in their field. There is a P.s.i Zeta, P.s.i Delta and P.s.i Sigma - that is, Head Warrior, Head Hunter, Head Scout, and are in charge of all Zetas or Deltas or Sigmas, respectively. They have shown great comprehension of their field, and are treated as masters of it; greatly respected wolf by any rights. Only the Alpha(s) or a joined and approved decision from the Council can promote a wolf to this position; it is one of honor, and not chosen by the wolf itself. These wolves usually lead hunts, attacks or scouting missions unless another higher-ranking wolf is selected. They usually call the shots when it comes to their field; and can often train the apprentices, or nominate someone to do it. Obviously, only three P.s.i Wolves.

Superior Status:

Delta Wolves:
Hunters of the pack. They are the main or lead Hunters in a pack, and often have a great deal of experience with a variety of game. Delta Wolves can act as law-enforcers, due to their high status, and are extremely experienced in hunting a wide variety of game... they also train up the Delta Epsilons. There may be only five Delta wolves.
(Usually strong/aggressive wolves - ears forward, tail high, more submissive when Alpha, Beta or Gamma present)

Sigma Wolves
The Scouts of the pack. Often wolves that aren't the best hunters but are excellent trackers. Sigma and Delta wolves can work together when tracking prey over a period of time. Often, these scouts travel far and wide searching for food and new hunting territory. They are often positioned near the territory borders, and are one of the first to spot new wolves or intruders. Fast and agile, these wolves are often fairly young and have a great deal of energy, though lacking in physical strength. Scouts can often be sent off on missions, perhaps tracking game or simply watching neighboring packs for signs of movement. While the Alphas are busy; Sigma wolves are their eyes; and a poor line of Sigmas means the pack is more vulnerable to attack. There may be up to five Sigma wolves.

Zeta Wolves

The Zeta wolves act as Guards or Sentinels of the pack. Strong and large they are a force to be reckoned with, and the Zeta wolves are what give the pack their fearsome reputation. The Zeta wolves are very intelligent, and are great fighters. They need to be in order to defend their territory. The Zeta wolf’s role in the pack is to often to assist the Council and Alphas in making sure the rules are followed and that the pack acts as a family. They make sure that the Pack Members keep themselves out of trouble and that no fights break out between visiting wolves or other pack members by warning them of the rules. Delta, Sigma and Zeta wolves are invaluable to the Alphas, and it is an honour for a wolf to become one of these ranks. There may be up to five Zeta wolves.)

Kappa Wolf

Like the Shaman of the pack, this member can heal almost any injury or illness with the right tools and herbs. Greatly looked up to by most members of the pack, pups especially, they are invaluable, especially after large territorial battles or fights for dominance that leave wolves injured. Often they take on young, intellegent wolves as an Epsilon, or Apprentice. Kappa wolves can often spend years working out which herbs and plants can be used for which injury; and often they help young, new mothers with their first litters should any assistance be required. There may only be one Kappa

Upsilon Wolves

Usually a she-wolf, the Upsilon rank describes the pack's main pup-sitter. There may well be more than one wolf of this rank, but it is usually filled by mothers, or older wolves that have lost their ability to hunt or track. A well-respected wolf, the Upsilon wolf often has a patient, calming personality, and is often invaluable to the pack. Upsilon wolves can see mothers after they have had their litters, and hunt for them while the mother watches over the pups, or vice versa. When the pups are no longer newborn, mothers often take them to the pup's den by the main den, where the Upsilons can look after the season's pups en masse. There may be up to 3 Upsilon wolves.

Higher Status

Delta Epsilons

Delta Epsilons are young, strong, healthy wolves that have a loyalty to the pack, and wish to protect it by becoming a Delta. It can be difficult to become a Delta Epsilon, as wolves need to show potential for hunting before they would be considered for the rank. Ranked above Pack Members, they learn the ways of the hunt in more detail, as well as leadership skills taught to them often by other Deltas, or the Council. Considered Pack Members, but generally the pack treats them with a bit more respect. There may only be three Delta Epsilons.

Zeta Epsilon

These are young wolves that show a great deal of promise. Either strong or fast, these wolves have a fierce desire to protect and fight for their pack, and so are trained up by the Zeta wolves or occasionally they Alpha wolves until they are considered strong enough to be a full-fledged Zeta. Their training can begin as early as they are weaned, if the parents or Alpha permits it, and may last their whole life – some wolves are never quite strong enough to make the cut. There may be any number of Epsilons.

Kappa Epsilon

Similar to a Delta/Zeta Epsilon, except a Kappa Epsilon learns the way of health, rather than battle or the hunt. Often younger wolves selected by the pack's Kappa or Healer to learn their ways, they have to be focused on their task in order to succeed and be a Healer. These wolves have to be patient; hotheaded yearlings would not be suitable for the position, and while the Kappa may choose an Epsilon, it has to be Okayed by the Alpha or Council before official training can begin. There may only be one Kappa Epsilon.

Middle Status:

Members:

Members are either pups that just turned two, wolves that recently joined the pack and are no longer Taus, or former Omegas. These wolves have a minimum age of two, and are sexually mature; they can have a mate and breed. You can also become a Member if the Alpha(s) for the wrong actions demoted you in rank. Members don’t have many social freedoms, but they are free to do as they wish as long as they show proper respect to those above them and obey the pack’s rules. Any number of wolves - though their own hierarchy will be decided on how often they post.
(Submissive to higher rank when being addressed by them - ears back, low/tucked tail, low on floor.)

Iota:

Yearling wolves. These are wolves that until now were pups, but through their pup hood have learned the basics of pack life; hierarchy, how to hunt, fending for themselves and so on. Depending on the parenting, and the strength of the individual pup; some are now easily able to look after themselves, and wishing to rise in the ranks, become an Epsilon. Others prefer to become normal pack members, where others remain in the care of their mothers (and/or fathers) until they are two years old, and considered adult wolves. Iota wolves would be the wolf equivalents of teenagers; and here is where their characters truly develop and shine through; now they have learned a little about their environment. Any number of Iota Wolves, though they will not remain in this position longer than a year.

Pups:

One of the lowest ranking members of the pack, though it’s usually only the Alpha's who produce pups - however any other wolf may, with their Alpha's permission. Pups are adored by the pack and despite their low rank have many social freedoms as they learn the ways of the pack. All pups are considered equal regardless of the parent’s ranks and are treated equally. Once a pup turns a year old, or make a large kill by himself or herself, they are no longer pups and are considered Iotas. Too young to hunt or fend for themselves, they bring joy to all members of the pack, as they learn and fit into their natural hierarchy.

Lower Status:

Omega Wolf:

The lowest possible member of the pack. They eat last at every kill, and are subservient to all other members of the pack. Often the wolf in this position is in bad favor with the Alpha(s), though they can be promoted based on the Alpha's choice. The Omega is the lowest ranking wolf in the pack. They are the last to eat and often sleep separate from the pack; there is an Omega's den some distance from the main den. Being singled out for torment isn't unusual and most of the time the higher ranks will allow it. Sometimes they are put in charge of watching the pups if the Alphas deem them trustworthy enough, and there are no free Upsilons. Omegas are always one step away from banishment and must work hard to prove themselves to the Alphas in hopes that they will remove the rank of Omega.
(Submissive to all except pups.) There may only be ONE Omega wolf at one time please.
