As seen of the red landscape on the map, the Fire Nation is located on a medium sized continent in the west. Much of the territory of the nation is comprised of mountain ranges, many of which are volcanic. The nation is adjacent to a small chain of island that runs toward the Earth kingdom, and the Northern Air Temple lays some distance north of it.

Culturally, it is ruled by military and a strict code of personal honor. Should one's honor be broken by someone else, it's not unfamiliar for the two to hold a fire duel, or agni kai, in order to restore one's honor. There is a yearly celebration called the Fire Days Festival in which citizens of the fire nation celebrate their culture through shooting fireworks, telling stories, watching puppet and firebending shows, and by wearing ceremonial masks and dress.

Peoples from the fire nation usually are dark haired and pale skinned in appearance. Almost all of the older men have beards, and most of the population sports a topknot. While the military uniform of the fire nation consists of a red and black color scheme, citizens do not necessarily follow this same style of dress. Most, however, wear clothing of either red, white, or some red-tinted color. Their clothing and architecture seem to reflect Chinese and some Japanese influences.

.rulers/royalty/goverment/etc.

The nation is ruled by a single king, or 'Fire Lord', with the throne being inherited by the eldest son. To date, there had been no woman to rule the nation. There have also been no cases of the Fire Lord's wife baring no sons, but it is assumed should this happen, the living male most closely related to the Fire Lord (brother, cousin, nephew, etc.) will take the throne.

.military status.

The Fire Nation's army consists of both foot soldiers, firebenders, and cavalry. Benders wear stylized white faceplates with their spiked helmets, though ranking officers do not. Foot soldiers wear cone-shaped helmets without a face plate. Calvary soldiers ride mounts called Komodo-Rhinos, creatures that are a mix between a large rhino and Komodo Dragons. Often, the mounts are heavily armored for battle, though they are also used to pull carts. It is a standing army of impressive size considering the population of the nation.

The Fire Nation also has other parts or 'branches' to it's military that other nations do not. They posess an average sized Navy comprised of coal-powers ships. At this current period of time, the navy's forces are almost completely dedicated to simply maintaining the border and protecting the coast of the Fire Nation. They also have groups of extremely skilled archers known as 'Yu Yan' archers, named after the current prince and princess.

The army is rightfully labeled 'vicious' and even larger military groups like those of the Earth Kingdom are hesitant to make any moves that may flag an attack from their end. Most of it's military success can be thanked (or blamed on) the nation's military being more like a goverment itself. The same as it's chain of rule, the military is basically sexist, but not quite as much.

While women in the military are mostly frowned upon, harassed, sometimes even abused, there are those that manage to worm their way in. One such example being Okana, who has gained respect over the years despite her gender.

.important figures.

'Fire Lord' Kozu: The man is what you would expect from a ruler of a nation like his. He's cruel, driven, and determined to make his nation the top on the chain of command and keep it that way. As every ruler before him, and likely every after him, Fire Lord Kozu plays an active rule in the military. In fact, if it's possible, he has more interest in it than former lords. Roughly somewhere in his mid-40s, he has graying hair, pale skin and red eyes.

'Queen' Lana: The queen of the Fire Nation stays quietly in the background. She rarely shows up in the eye of the public, and because of that and a few other reasons, the public generally doesn't speak of her. Her appearence is said to be very beautiful, save for the frown on her face. The woman is likely a sad individual, most likely because of her husand who supposedly 'mistreats' her.

'Prince' Yu: Yu is the twin brother of Yan. He was born after her, but because of the gender-biased of the Fire Nation still ranks higher and is next in line for the throne. His name, along with his sisters, gave the name to the 'Yu Yan Archers', as they were born during a meeting to determine if the archers themselves were worthy enough to be considered a branch in the military. Yu takes after his father, almost to the point of being a clone of him. This refers to personality, since appearence-wise he favors his mother.

'Princess' Yan: Yu's twin brother, Princess Yan seems to have no interest in the affairs of the nation. She seems unbothered the throne was taken from her as the first born due to being a female. She seems unbothered by any strife or woes in the world, even those of her own people. All in all, Princess Yan is a very lazy individual who's content to be fed and spoiled and do not work what so ever.

'Master' Razuten: As of the moment reportedly dead (though this is a false claim), Razuten is a complicated person, though easily understood in comparison to his life itself. The son of Queen Lana and an unknown man prior to 'marrying' Fire Lord Kozu, Razuten would have been tossed aside, possibly even executed, if not for his status as a child prodigy. He was raised away from his mother and all other people, save for other soliders, trained day in and day out simply to be a tool for the military. He is trademarked by his skill with bending, unarmed combat, weapons, and girls. Razuten secretly trained the Avatar in the art of firebending, while be younger than her. His motives for it are a complete mysterious, since one would suspect a person in his upbringing would detest the Avatar, not help her.

'Master' Okana: Okana is an old, old, old woman. How old, no one is sure. She is also the primest example, save for the Fire Lord himself, of what the Fire Nation is: not to be messed with. Like Razuten, Okana was a prodigy. Unlike Razuten, Okana had to work to gain any notice, let alone any respect, as she is female. It took years, battles and undoubtedly some scheming, but she wormed her way up the military ladder and now stands on a pedastool of great importance. The men in the military dare not disrepect her, as she has even killed a few of them for doing so. The only person she answers to is the Fire Lord, and to a minor extent, Prince Yu.

.important locations.

The Capital Hiyama: Located on the slopes of one of the nation's largest non-volcanic mountains, is the capital city of the Fire Nation. It is noted for its multiple layered, step-like layout, starting with the low social classes on the outermost step and topped with the Fire Nation's palace. Each 'ring' of the city is divided from the other by thick walls with designated gates for entry and exit, manned by guards. Anyone wishing to go up to the higher levels of the city must present papers of citizenship and proof of business before being allowed through.

(It is important to note OOC that at the end of Avatar Kahamo's lifetime, the capital city was relocated. Hiyama was made the capital in this shop because at the time of it's creation the series had not announced the capital for that time period.)

The Military Base of Hiyama: During the lifetime of Avatar Kahamo, military procedures in the Fire Nation were conducted outside of the palace, and instead in a smaller building placed next to it known as the 'military base'. This base has many, many floors. So many, in fact, it has multiple basements and dungeons, some of which have not been used for many years. The higher floors are more 'standard', used to train new recruits and the like.

The Fire Temple: Located on a crescant-shaped, volcanic island, citizens visit the Fire Temple for many reasons. Some hold it in a sort of religious value, while others view it through the eyes of a bored adventurer or a tourist. Festivals are at time held in or around the temple, including 'Fires Day'. Those wishing to visit the island get there via boat.

.firebending.

Firebending is the art of controlling fire or heat. It's comprised of very aggressive, extravagant techniques based of the Northern Shaolin style of martial arts. Firebenders concentrate on offensive techniques, aiming to overpower and strike down the opponent as swiftly as possible. While most Firebenders can only control normal fire (like one might see in a fireplace or lighting a candle), the more powerful Firebenders can generate white-hot fire and lighting.

Firebending is particularly noteable because the bender does not necessarily need a pre-existing flame to control. Rather, he or she can create fire by manipulating the heat in the air, whereas other bending arts must have some state of the element to bend it.

Firebenders are typically just as aggressive and hot-headed as their bending art. They're known to throw themselves completely into everything they do.
