A pale strong white unicorn had only recently traveled to the lakeside, away from the usual conventions of her thriving "homestead". But she never really thought of a place she could have called "home", did she? She was fated to wander for most of her life without company, having little respect for those who were not of her kind. Those she passed by without a word; although there were those at the homestead she could have called a family, she could only tolerate them just enough to allow for occasional visits.

And she lowered her head to the ground, blinking her deep indigo eyes at the water's reflection; her eyes were like the sea itself, swimming in deep memories, thoughts, contemplation. She let her mane wave lightly in the air, getting into her face, for she was lost in thought. It was a dreamy evening turning into night...

Her long, slender tail flicked slightly in the rising moon's light. She knew she would be bothered by no one, and if trouble came, which it rarely did, she would handle... She would handle.

Instead of flying -- he had taken the initiative to walk, to explore the new lands, was his thoughts as Helios followed the designated path. In a short space of time, he had already met Chibiusa, and another unicorn, so he had to inquire who the next one he would meet, would be. The land was full of strange mysteries, Helios thought perplexed. His attention was distracted however, as he noticed he would be nearing the end of the path soon, from the tell-tale glow of the setting sun. Tonight would be another lovely night, it seemed.

The thought if anything -- made him just a bit more comforted, as he slowly walked out of the forest path, to meet with a shining lake. "Hm?" he asked outloud, tilting his heading to stare at where he had come. His attention drifted to the ghost white mare -- however, that was only a few feet from himself that stood right before the lake. "Did I interrupt?" His tone was apologetic, as he backed a step, hesitant to approach the mare that stood before him.

It took a few moments for the unicorn to register the existence of the male that stood so very close. Apparently, the golden silence dissipated too soon.

She heard an inconsiderate voice break the barrier of the air, and so she calmly turned towards the intruder, but only slightly, revealing but a single side of her face. A pause came as his question did, and she did not know whether to distinguish it as rhetoric or not; of course he had interrupted, there was no question about it.

But, so as to humor him, she replied: "If you did not want to interrupt, then why did you do so?"

And as she eyed him, noticing his cautious steps backwards, she lifted her head so that it wasn't near the ground anymore, thinking, Good, so he knows his place, that he should not get so close...

Giving the other soquili a wary look, Helios was almost sure, that not moving closer on his part, was a good move. It was clear on all accounts, that his presence wasn't welcome, but, he was simply not in a mood to move for another soquili's likes, or in this case, her dislike. "I'm sorry to have interrupted." His tone was polite, but that was all. A heavy sigh, escaped him, as he realized what he had gotten himself into. Closing his eyes, forcing himself to relax, "But while I'm here. Lets make the best of it, shall we?" Oh, he had no doubt, that neither of them would make the best of it.

Especially, when he wasn't even being fully acknowledged. "So, may I ask what your name would be?" There was a pause after this question, as Helios blinked once, and then twice. Was this the question he had wanted to ask? He shook his head in a negative shake. "Let me phrase it another way. What should I do, to at least earn your full attention?"

At least the thing is sorry that he interrupted... But why is he staying? She questioned herself as she fully turned quite languidly, suddenly realizing that it was the first time she really took a look at the stranger.

She supposed he could have been worse off--he was quite similar to herself in colors; both had horns, and a design right under, and his hair may have been a shade or two more blue and darker than hers. Otherwise, the most blatant thing that separated the two were his horrendous feathered wings. Another one, she thought quietly. But not as ugly as the first one... No, this one yielded far greater beauty than the one named Dorian who called one of his parents a unicorn.

"You try to make the best of this situation by asking for my name... Ha!" she scoffed, wishing to hold back that information for such a being. But she supposed she could entertain him for now. With great ladylike posture, she floated towards the white alicorn, long unicorn tail flowing behind her off the ground with such elegance. "You must excuse me for laughing at your sentiments, but you should never ask a unicorn for their name before they offer it themselves. I am Amalthea. And as to earn my full attention, perhaps you'd do greater to find that out for yourself..."

She stepped closer to the stranger, and seemed to bore into his soul with her half-lidded dark eyes. She was already judging him--a bad habit that won't wear off soon--and then inquired: "What might be your name, dare I ask, winged creature? And what brought you upon this place, at this very moment?" She blinked once quietly as she awaited his answer.

Feeling himself the object of judgment, he lifted his head with a proud gesture, and said "My name is Helios. Its a .. " He seemed to ponder his words for a moment, before continuing "surprise to come upon a mare such as yourself." His red eyes blinked, for a curious moment or two, before he really observed the mare. Her coat was as white as himself, but her mane was a few shades, if not more, lighter. One could see a hint of color, that varied towards purple or blue.

They were similar, the two of them. But they were too different, in other ways, Helios noted, his wings ruffling at his sides. Their temperaments posed a problem, and it was to be wondered upon whether she reacted similarly to everyone. Making an assumption that she did so, his voice was soft, as he answered "It is my own private business where I go, Amalthea. "

Still standing within the same spot, the gentle breeze ruffled his mane and tail slightly, and he reflected that the breeze was more welcoming than the unicorn was. His tale drifting behind him, his mane swaying in the wind, as he asked "May I ask the same of you?"

The stallion seemed rightfully awed for a moment, ensuring his speechless hesitation after his introduction. Amalthea raised her head up, positioning it in a far higher level than Helios's. She felt the gaze of the other going over her body, and to emphasize her graceful elegance and beautiful coat, she swayed in a slow walk to Helios, and then past him. She stopped at a tree five full bodies away from the alicorn and turned back to engage his question once again.

"Silly, Helios, if it is your own private business where you go, why should you stray out in the public, where anyone can see what you are doing?" She scoffed at his reply and had half a mind to leave him just then. But no, he possessed a telltale trait of the unicorn, and so held a slight degree of dignity left. He was still somewhat a percentage of her pure race, but no doubt one of his parents had bred with a common horse to taint the line of unicorns everywhere.

"Unicorns wander where they please, but I suppose too many have wandered too far, which is how a halfbreed like you can live," she said sadly, strolling off to another tree nearby her first, as if the first did not suit her. "I do hope that there aren't more of your kind around, as I would be afraid to admit that there's less unicorns than before... It is strange, seeing so many children of unicorns dirtied by mere winged horses."

She left her comment at that, eyes turning elsewhere with no care at whether Helios would reply to the simple comment.

"Unlike others, I do not prefer the confinements of seclusion." He said simply. "Understandably, others may prefer the loneliness and solitude seclusion offers."

Arrested by the unicorn's statement, Helios did not know what to answer, that would not turn the unicorn against him. On one hand, it was true that many races seem to be intermingling with one another. It was possible, that a pure blooded unicorn, similar to Amalthea would die out. She seemed truly sad, but on the other. A race should not be restricted to their own, when it came to matters of love, and offspring.

His thoughts were interrupted by a certain phrase of Amalthea's speech, as he replied "Dirtied?". Raising an eyebrow, he seemed to contemplate what she was saying. "I suppose it would be that way, especially from your point of view."

"So, do you believe that we are mistakes then? A result of a mixed breeding, a half breed that has no place, especially in your world?" Although these words were meant to condemn, his voice was still soft. He had a content look on his face, "Well, no matter, I've come to terms with what I am."

"And, no matter if you choose to admit it or not, it wont change what's happening out there." The sentence was accompanied with a sad smile, although not directed at the unicorn. Similarly, there are things I am afraid to also admit .. Helios thought silently.

Amalthea continued to look opposite of where Helios was positioned, not even dignifying the mixed breed with a look as she gave her reply. "I wouldn't put such a term to it..." she said wistfully. "How heartening to find even a spark of pride within yourself, it is the mark of a unicorn, after all... Tell me, does one such as yourself find the ability to use your horn well?" she asked out of sheer curiosity, perhaps even intangible interest in "testing" this one stallion. Surely the horn that rests upon an alicorn's head would not be so impressive as a unicorn's, but in what ways?

"I know quite well what is 'happening out there', but it does not prevent my ill feelings about the situation." She let an unnoticed sigh escape her mouth, as if in expression of her disappointment of what sort of detriment had befallen the race of unicorns. It was odd, as if she was the only one who still existed. Surely there were others about besides her; not simply the crude winged horses that she had seemed to be constantly bumping into lately. "Come," she said, motioning Helios to walk away from the water she had been resting near, drawing him into the woods. She left her spot from the stationed tree and did not bother to look back at the other's reaction, though her slender tail drifted behind her calmly and composed.

Snorting at Amalthea's comment, but he let it pass without a comment. He considered lightly of how to answer Amalthea's sudden interest, before replying "Its useful, as you term it." He neglected to tell her any more of that, in case his comment prompted any more about his use. "But well? Its all up to you to decide that." If an alicorn could compare at all, with a pure unicorn.. He finished silently, within his thoughts.

"Understandable, I suppose. But you do not feel .. lonely?" he mused. "Or is it that mixed breeds simply do not reach the standard of company for you?" Any further comments were interrupted, as his eyes became alert to Amalthea's sudden movement, he stared at her with guarded eyes. But his answer was made in a split second. He would follow her, whether it was tangible curiosity that compelled him to, or another reason. Leaving the brightly lit spot, he followed her with slow steps into the dark recesses of the forest, his tail ruffling slightly in the distance as he disappeared into the depth of trees.

The pure had heard his comments, and only gave a hint as to whether she heard them or not with very faint nodding before she had left the place she stood at, leading the mix-bred male into the place where she thought would be best to test his skills.

Deeper and deeper into the woods the two traveled, that it almost seemed as if the light was being extinguished by the multiplying trees that came from within the place. It was almost as if night itself had settled in, yet there was still some time before that had actually occurred. The heart of the forest was not something to be afraid of, but it held the potential to ward off the most tender of hearts on occasion. But Amalthea, knowing full well of her capabilities and having been independent throughout her life, was aware that she was able to fend off most things that came her way. Not by force, but sometimes, some things were easier to solve using knowledge as a guide.

Helios had been behind Amalthea, as she kept her pace faster than his whenever he would catch up. So an abrupt stop came, when she reached her destination, and her eyes were fixated on the ground in front of her for just a moment, and the area seemed to be drenched in almost darkness. She turned her head back to Helios and finally answered his previous questions:

"I cannot feel things like that," she explained solemnly, though her eyes appeared vacant, still as quiet and dark as the sea. "I can only express my sentiments towards certain matters... I do wish I would be surrounded by my own kind often, and I prefer to travel alone rather than with one such as yourself." She had paid no attention to her bluntness in speech.

"But come," she simply said, eyes turning back to where they had glanced at before. "See what you can do..."

Amalthea's eyes were resting upon a small, shriveled plant on the base of a great tree that loomed before them; it was apparent that the plant had been either crushed on, dried out, or it was ill. Some life clung to it, however, and it was not completely gone yet. The other shrubbery surrounding the sick plant were tilted away from it, as if they felt the draining life and desired no observation in its demise. "A test," she said softly.

"Pleasant, are we not?" Helios murmured to himself, and sighed inwardly at her continued distancing. However, he shrugged off his disappointment and set his sights on the path before them.

As they continued down the trail, and only their footsteps illuminating the silence around them, Helios arched an eyebrow. Where she was leading him, was a puzzling inquiry, in which he did not want to question. However, the darkness that they were leading into was not one for a casual conversation or meeting. Their meeting had turned to one that was more than casual --

Encased within his thoughts, he gave no notice to the observation that Amalthea had already gone ahead of him. He felt no need to close the distance between them. Amalthea was being purposely deliberate in staying before him -- If she felt pleasure in simple things like that, Helios felt no need to complain over such a matter.

So it was no wonder, that when Amalthea finally spoke, Helios was at a loss of a way to respond. Spending a few minutes in brief contemplation before handling the task of a response, he stared intently, trying to understand the underlying meaning of her words. He had already resigned himself to the fact that his words -- especially one of a half breed would have no impact on the pure blooded unicorn.

"I am saddened by your words, but it would be a futile effort to change your way of thinking. If you believe in what you say, then I have no doubts .." His sentence was cut off, as he followed Amalthea's glance.

The overbearing, and unmistakable scent of lingering death drifted in the air, as Helios's snort was one of disgust. With little reservation, he stepped closer to examine the wounded plant. "It's dying." he murmured, alluding to himself. The sentence needed no clarification to either of the soquili remaining there. His polite expression faltered for a moment, while his back was turned towards Amalthea.

Casting her with a cold gaze, he quickly turned back to the dying life. "A simple sentence would have been all what was required. Not this.." Helios said softly, his voice low with displeasure.

His head lowered, the red gleam of his eyes were misted with concentration, his horn glowing, pulsing lightly. Others would have remarked that it just just shrubbery -- something that died with no one to mourn it. However, Helios did not wish for its demise nor the death of anything else.

He turned away, his task was finished. The plant no longer laid their shriveled, limp, like a candle waiting to burn out. Instead, it possessed a dark green color, standing up proudly, it appeared. His gaze softened as it settled upon the plant, but became one of masked politeness when turned back the Amalthea. There were no words between them, as he walked by, brushing the unicorn, as he headed towards the exit.

Amalthea stood still, and her expression remained unchanged whilst Helios had gone to inspect his task. He surely wouldn't have been able to do as much reconstruction as he thought he could, but the notion that the stallion in front of her thought he could provided all the reasons for the unicorn to stay and curiously watch over him.

She had heard his plea of reluctance, but waited until he had carried out all actions he intended to do before retaliating. She shifted more to one side of Helios, and gazed at the darkened spot the winged beast was concentrating on. She felt the tension of powers collect in the air, but she thought it was not all that impressive.

As the stallion immediately turned back once he had thought the job was finished, Amalthea stepped lightly where he had once stood, as if taking his place. Indeed, the plant had renewed life once more, but was that enough? She minded not the stallion's exit, and instead focused on what was before her. At once, her long, sturdy horn suddenly glowed blue, and she dipped her head down and closed her eyes to concentrate, though the look on her face was that of serenity. Almost instantaneously, the area became shades greener and prouder in composure; hints of young flower blooms revealed themselves through the fuller grass, and the surrounding trees felt ages younger, to say the least. The spot, which had been covered in darkness and desolation before, was now a youthful, positively radiant patch.

She opened her eyes and turned back to Helios, allowing her gaze to linger on his impure form for just a second longer. "Foolish... To think you thought yourself to be a degree higher than a common horse..." she commented, and she strode over to where Helios had gone to at the exit, and began walking again.

"Admirable try, however..." Amalthea added so softly.
