I'd like to know if there are any lefty players out there on account of the fact that I fear I'm alone in this guild.
And if you're a lefty that plays righty. You're dead to me.

Left handed and I play lefty. I feel when people are lefty and force themselves to play righty they take away a lot of their potential-it's an unnatural thing to do, and you'll always be limiting yourself at least partly. I'll take the difficulty of finding quality basses over not being able to comfortably play what I have. wink

It just feels more natural to me, to fret my notes with the hand that has more dexterity.

But I do understand Slappy's point, but that makes a bit more sense with guitar.

I got a couple lefty friends that play guitar righty. One did it becaue it was cheaper and easier to find. The other did it becaue he believes that righty is the true way for a lefty to play and that all righties are really playing lefty.

"Hey, all you guys. You think you're playing right-handed? Yeah, no. You're not."

It just feels more natural to me, to fret my notes with the hand that has more dexterity. The guy who sold my dad the first bass I owned tried to tell me to play that way for that excuse, and that's fine if it actually does help you fret-but it feels unnatural to me. I've tried playing the other way and it feels the way it feels when I try to write with my right hand. It's just not natural to me. Some people do try to force themselves (or get forced by a teacher) to play right handed though. I know a left-handed guitarist in my high school who's dad made him play righty and he's pretty atrocious. I can't help but think he may have been better if he did it the way that felt natural to him, which was lefty.

I don't really know much about this guild but I've noticed that I see more lefty bass players than players of any other instrument.
