He was on edge, to say the least.
“Well, I think it’s wonderful.” Ivana doted, her white tail flashing back and forth as Johanna relayed the information. They’d known for a few weeks now- but it was getting towards the end of the wait, and seemed to be what most of the family was talking about. Largely, perhaps, because Phib was gloating about it to anyone who was willing to sit long enough to listen.
Gareth whined and lowered his head. He didn’t know why everyone was so calm. Babies were serious business! Wasn’t anyone worried about Mozelle? Even if she’d done this before-… it could be different! It terrified him. The thought of losing her…
“Nonsense.” Johanna had said. “I’ve had plenty of pups. Not a problem. Just look at my girls.”
“b***h needs to stop having not-my-babies.” Hayden grumbled.
“b***h needs to shut his mouth.” Johanna quipped back. They were joking- but even the hesitant jokes made him on edge.
“I didn’t have any problem with Tabitha.” Ivana grunted, interrupting the two. “You shouldn’t worry so much Gareth. I’m sure the babies will be fine. And Mozelle.”
It wasn’t enough to keep him still. Warrily, he bade his friends goodbye- and headed back towards home.

She had been dealing with the pregnancy quite well, she thought. She had done this before several times, when she had birthed Kapu's children. But even with her experience and confidence, she knew that Gareth was still very nervous about it all. And she completely understood, since it was his first time being a parent. Stretching out on her side with her belly bulging out, she sighed and wished that she could give him some of her own confidence. It was cute when he was nervous, but she feared it might do him some harm one of these days.
Feeling restless as most mothers did, she shifted around on the ground, first moving her hips and then her entire body. This was the only thing she truly hated about being pregnant. She was always so restless. And her restlessness caused Gareth even more grief.
As her mate crossed her mind more and more frequently within the minute, she began to wonder where he was at. There were times when he'd never leave her side for more than a few minutes. There were other times where he was away longer--to hunt and the like--but normally he wasn't away for too long. Today he had been away for a longer period of time, and she began to worry.
Mozelle stopped for a moment, realizing that she was becoming more like her mate. She laughed to herself and shook her head, shifting her weight around again. She had forgotten how heavy she became when she was pregnant!
Whining as she failed to find a suitable resting spot, she instead rose to her paws and tried to shake out her fur. Ears perking forward, she swiveled her head around as her nose twitched constantly. "Gareth?" she called, just in case he was taking a nap somewhere nearby. Wobbling about, she head off a few feet, but it soon became too tiresome for her. Her time was nearing. She could feel it in her bones and in the way that she couldn't find the right spot. She had noticed that the closer to the birthing it was, the more restless she became.
And she was very restless. "Gareth!"
