Today in youth group we had a debate on wheather or not it was a sin to drink....(alcohol or any related things like that) I personally do not think it is a sin to drink. I think that as long as you are not doing it to get drunk, maybe like, one drink, then it's ok. Nowhere in the bible ( that I have seen)does it say that it is a sin to DRINK, it does say however that being drunk is bad. So as long as it is done in moderation then ur good. BUT! *big but* if someone has had drinking problems in the past, like they used to be alcoholics then I believe they should stay away. So...what do you guys think? *Edit* just so you all know, (because I have been getting this a lot) I do not drink at all whatsoever, I think the stuff is putrid and disgusting. I stay away from it. I just wanted to see other people's opinions on what they thought about drinking

oh i agree with you 100% i personally don't drink for multiple reasons. 1) it was just something i grew up being taught that it was wrong and while now i can see it's not completely wrong...i still don't like doing it. 2) my family has a history of alcoholism so i'd rather not risk that and 3) i've taken sips of a couple things...and i can't stand the taste of the alcohol in them, although i do like some of them in their non-alcoholic states.
i personally just think it's stupid if a person get's drunk...especially on purpose....

ya, DRINKING is not a sin in itself, but don't go over board, that's just stupid. i speak from indirect expirience- i have a friend whose family was/ is into all sorts of stuff, includind alcohal, and she is resisting most temptations quite well. we had a bit of troble, but she's back with the Lord now. btw, my parents enjoy a bottle o' about every other week.

I won't drink, I don't drink... ITS NASTY AS ALL GET OUT! If pepsi came out with just the flavor the drink would be off the shelves in days. It messes up your liver. The main reason folks drink is the side affects. It relaxes you. But that could be a idol. If it comes between you and GOD then its a idol. Get rid of it! Let all your idols be torn. It get you drunk... yea... throw up and screw somebody you don't know... how satanic... burning_eyes ! The other reason is you come of age and you CAN have it now, so whats stopping you? Boy thems fiery darts from hell. Yea I know getting drunk is a sin. But its only one sip away. If you give the devil one inch he'll take your life. Thats why The Bible says do NOT give satan a foot hold. Don't let him have anything over you. Its not good to drink. Do you think The Holy Spirit wants to occupy the same space as jack daniels? Ask GOD if its ok and don't drink a drop until you hear from HIM!

but one does here from him- Bible! and God shared space with alcohol plenty of times, Jesus was either to drink that or have a premature death from the water xp i kno, there was less debatable stuff in it then, but it was there!

Yes jesus did drink wine back in the day BUT!!!! they wine was not fermented...as in it had no alcohol really...plus, since they had no filtering systems it was pretty much the only stuff they could drink so as to not get sick... And No people I do not drink! I think the stuff is nasty beyond all other things I hate it, but I just wanted to start a debate type of thingand express my opinion so...yeah

Since I come from an alcholic family I was also terrified of what might happen if I ever took my first drink. A few years ago, however, my doctor suggested that drinking a glass of wine every night could help me with my chronic pain (red wine has been tentatively shown to have various medicinal benefits but only when consumed in moderation).
Normally there is no drinking alcohol to be found in the homes of either my parents or my wife's family but a couple of Christmases ago my wife's aunt decided to offer everyone wine at the annual family Christmas gathering in honor of her son who had been killed by a drunk driver that year. (I don't know why the choice was made and I'm polite enough not to ask.)
My wife (TuraLura here on Gaia) and I decided that there would be no better time to see if I had inherited my father's alcoholism. I was simultaneously excited and horrified to discover that alcohol tastes nasty.
It was good news because I had absolutely no desire to drink more (so I wasn't going to become an alcoholic) but it was bad news because I had absolutely no desire to drink more (and thus wouldn't get the medical benefits).
I tell you all of that to show you where I'm coming from. I've seen what drunkenness can do to people and their families. I'm also aware of the health benefits that alcohol can bestow.
I beg everyone to learn from what I've experienced in three decades of life: all things in moderation. God created everything so nothing is inherently evil. But Satan (who lacks the ability to create) likes to corrupt God's creations for his own devices.
Whether or not you drink is between you and God but remember:
"Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." - 1 Cor 10:31 (NASB)

i too have never seen alcohol or any mentions of it in the Bible. but i do have my reasons against it.
the things you do under the influence of alcohol is a sin though. and you probably wont remember half the things you do under it.

If I call... Jesus was a wine drinker, I even have proof that he was. In one of the famous stories of the Lord, he was at a get-together, and they ran out of wine. So he told a disiple to go fetch some water and put it into some gallon jugs. The man did as instructed and Christ turned the water into wine. Now I wouldn't think the the Savior would of done that if he thought it was a sin...
