Meet Reiko Mikami. She's twenty-something (asking her her age may result in lots and lots of pain,) she's rich, she's gorgeous, and she hunts ghosts and other undead creatures, with fees of thousands upon thousands of dollars per case.
In short, she's what Buffy wants to be when she grows up. rofl (I like Buffy, but the comparison was needed.)
Mikami's got two helpers, Tadao Yokoshima (whose life goal is marrying Mikami, or at least getting a chance to grope her,) and Okinu, a ghost girl that Mikami released from a curse, and decided to stay around to help instead of moving into the afterlife.
But Reiko isn't the only Ghost Sweeper around. There's Meiko Rokudo, a shy, indecisive Ghost Sweeper who's Mikami's best friend (much to Mikami's dismay) and who has several guardian spirits with enough power to level a building. Some say Meiko's got a crush on Mikami, and she sure plays the part in the anime.
And there's also rivals, like Emi Ogazawara. A shaman-like Ghost Sweeper who is Mikami's strongest rival, and who will use any means at her disposal to get rid of Mikami for good. Even if that means allying with ghosts.
All in all, the series is short but fun. There's plenty of madness going, like watching Yokoshima's attempts at groping Mikami (which always end with pain,) or the rather weird ghosts Mikami faces.
The villains rank from a Vampire King to a spirit that turns people into mannequins, to a clown that turns everyone into kids (best arc of the series, IMO,) to an immortal mad scientist whose brain isn't as swift and flawless as he thinks.... And his robotic helper, an android built centuries ago by the scientist and who looks like a normal human (unless she's shooting her hands at you in the best Mazinger impersonation ever...)
All in all, a supernatural comedy anime that's interesting enough to hook you up, if you don't mind some randomness now and then, and a main lead female that's got both the looks of a top model, and the brains of a rocket scientist. And also the icy personality of a human-killing machine, but hey, she needed a flaw.
The show's old, and I'm not sure it was ever licensed to the US, but if you can get to watch it or read the manga, go for it.

The series has around thirty episodes, and it doesn't really have an ending.
