I haven't played in monthssss. but I used to. ^^ It's alright, but none of the later editions are really worth it. I mean, it's fun until you're making your 30billionth pve character and pvp i find to get boring unless I'm fighting for territory. but I believe you actually need GW factions to do the turf wars thing. I would recommend it, regardless, if you could find it on sale. otherwise, read some reviews and decide for yourself. The game is absolutely beautiful if your comp can handle the full settings. Honestly, bought it because it was pretty and ended up being rewarded with more than I expected.

I played Guild Wars back in the day before Factions came out. It was really fun... but then... I started playing WoW.... and I juggled the two games. Then I stopped playing both... and WoW was just easier to get back into. Right now I prefer WoW.
On the topic of Guild Wars. It's still a great game if you can get the original and all the expansions. I mainly just farmed all the time. To be honest, I actually purchased the Factions "expansion" (they aren't really expansions since they're standalone) with In game money. I just stopped playing it after a while. I still have about 314Platinum in storage from farming so much, but they've nerfed it to where solo farming just doesn't reward that many items and gold. Guild wars was heavy on the nerfs to make it as group oriented as possible. Too many people were able to just go out and farm for 5-30k in five minute depending on the drops you got.... I'm rambling -.-;; I'm sorry... it's okay, and they've come out with their final expansion before they release Guild Wars 2.
Guild Wars 2 is supposed to play a lot more like an actual MMO RPG. Most people, including myself, consider Guild Wars a MMM Coop. It's still defined as an RPG, but it just has too many boundaries with zones to be fully interactive like an MMO RPG.

At least that's what all the evidence is leading too.

I heard rumor of the lv 20 cap thing changing in GW2, but I am unsure where the new cap was rumored to be. Just like. research it if you're interested.
