I'm not too surprised, seeing as VIZ has everything else DN-related. It's a fairly big series, so it'd be crazy of them to miss the movies.
I can say that I'm happily looking forward to this. I greatly preferred L to Mello and Near (but that's another rant), and I hear it's an alternate story and ending. Plus, I'm a bit of a completionist, so it's pretty much guaranteed to end up on my shelf whenever it's released.

They're probably going to add Naruto ads everywhere.
"NARUTO note, huh? I guess a prank this buysomemorecrappyNarutomerchandise isn't that bad."
Since when has ANY company done that? There will be probably be a preview menu on the DVD that has a
Naruto trailer, but very little, if anything, else.
Besides,
Naruto and
Death Note are definitely geared towards different crowds. I don't care if they're both Shonen Jump manga; they're very different series.
Well, let's see ... how about not sending YTV ANY information at all on Death Note while they're milking Naruto? And in Shonen Jump, Naruto got FIVE chapters in a single issue. And all of the extra pages were about Naruto video game cheats, Naruto characters, Naruto interviews.
Before I respond, I need to thank you for clarifying what you meant. It originally came across as VIZ would go as far as to put
Naruto references in the dub.
Naruto is, without a doubt, VIZ's biggest license at the moment. It's somewhat expected that they'll milk their biggest license, much like ADV has re-released
Neon Genesis Evangelion several times and FUNimation puts a lot of emphasis on the
Dragon Ball series. If VIZ is also in charge of publishing an english-language version of the magazine the series runs in, they'll obviously put more
Naruto content in it in the hopes of gettting fans to subscribe/buy the magazine, therefore getting them more money.
Your example, though, is only about one issue of Shonen Jump. I've seen others where they've have advertisements, interviews, information, etc. about other SJ series, as well.
Naruto may also be getting more space since VIZ is trying to get to the timeskip, which would likely need more chapters published every month. They won't be harming DN by putting in extra
Naruto chapters, though; DN was almost never in their issuies of SJ to begin with.
As for YTV, give me a
legitimate source that says that VIZ was too busy with
Naruto to give them any information, causing them to drop the series, and I'll concede this point. However, all I heard about it was that YTV had DN listed, and then removed it at the last second for unspecified reasons. Those reasons could have been late/bad tapes to controversy to the show being aired at a bad time to sudden change of plans. On the same note, maybe VIZ decided that the US, not Canada, should see DN on TV first and pulled it. VIZ has also been putting out quite a few manga, so it seems strange that they're not to busy to put out all of these series, but they are too busy to give YTV any information about DN (which is fairly big and would probably do better than many of these manga series).
