in the 90s when wresteling was at its height of popularity there were two major promotions competing for ratings. Vince Mcmahon's World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and Ted Turners World Championship Wrestling (WCW).
However a third promotion was rising out of the east a small promotion called Eastern Championship Wrestling. this small promotion run out of a ball room could not compete with the larger promotions money and fan base but soon found a way to be noticed and make themselves known on the wrestling scene. Eastern Championship Wrestling became Extreme Championship Wrestling and ushered in an era of violence never before seen by the sports entertainment world. no rules no disqualifications no count outs. steel chairs, barbed wire, tables, cooking sheets, fire, cattle prods, ladders, guard rails, thumb tacs, razor wire, tools, anything and everything became weapons and blood sweat and tears flowed like water. through ECW came some of the most recognized names in the sports entertainment world. Rob Van Dam, Sabu, the Sandman, Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Rey Mysterio jr., Mick Foley, Terry Funk, Mike Awesome, Raven, Rhyno, Tommy Dreamer, the Dudley Boyz and Stone Cold Steve Austin.
