Being A Semi-Literate Role Player
Being a Semi-Literate Role Player consists of a few things, and semi-literacy is something that is enforced within this guild. First, let me tell you why we enforce the rule of semi-literacy.
1. It is easier to read. Let me give you an example.
illiterate
da girl walked in da forest. she wuz lookin for sumthing, but dint find it. she got mad n left.
semi-literate
The girl walked into the forest. The trees were green and lush, the ground was moss-covered and scattered with rocks. She had lost her favorite teddy bear in this forest the day before, and hoped she could find it. After searching high and low for several hours, she gave up. She was very upset at the fact that her favorite teddy bear was lost for good. As she walked back out of the forest, tears streaked her face and sobs escaped her lungs.
Isn't the second example far more pleasurable to read, painting a picture of what's going on in your head?
2. Being a semi-literate guild opens the door for more members to join. Most Role Players who are semi-literate or literate refuse to participate in a role play that is not literacy defined.
3. Role Playing is like getting a group of people together and telling a story. It's a lot easier to tell this story if everyone is working with the same literacy level. It's also a lot easier to read this story if everyone is using the same literacy level.Being Semi-Literate1.
Use proper spelling.I'm no nazi, but I do despise laziness. I won't chase after you about spelling a few words wrong or a type here and there, but I do expect you to try to spell your words properly.
2.
Use proper grammar-Don't overuse commas
-Capitalize where appropriate; At the beginning of a sentence, proper nouns, etc. No need to capitalize every word.
-Use quotation marks to depict speech, as well as the color coding.
3.
Be descriptive-Part of telling a story properly is setting the scene. We do this by describing the character's surroundings and actions. Think of it as painting a picture with words.
4.
Use color depiction - We use color to depict
narrative,
thought and
speech. But why?
Well, let's say you haven't been able to post in awhile, for whatever reason. There's been like twenty posts since your last one. Who wants to go through and read twenty posts that may or may not apply to your character. Instead of reading the whole entire post, you can just read the black, or a single color, because if the post applies to your character, the characters name will be in there somewhere (most of the time). It just makes things easier for everyone.
