Welcome to the Virtual Kingdom…

…A land of Magick, Mystery, Adventure...

...And ever so much more…

In the Kingdom of Armarel chaos ensues. The legitimate heir of the kingdom has been assassinated along with his queen mother, and now, supposed and illegitimate children of the king from around the kingdom abound in their claims to the throne. The king, now regretting his disreputable past, is determined to set things right. He has set forth a decree, stating that only the child who bears his seal will be crowned. Pray tell though who is this hidden child? Are they among those seeking the crown? Or is this child unaware and uncaring of their role in Armarel’s history? Or is this ruse only that, with no child bearing this precious symbol? What will happen to the kingdom of Armarel?

Only time will tell…

Official Game Synopsis, Renderson Enterprises

Renderson Enterprises
-------The Leader in Virtual Gaming Technology

The year is 2037. Virtual gaming technology has evolved in leaps and bounds since the gaming revolutions of the past decades. With these changes have followed mass changes in the technology of hundreds of fields, their top engineers and scientists wishing to truly live the reality of their favorite games as children. As the relatively new leader in the gaming industry, Renderson Enterprises is considered the cream of the crop, with brilliant innovations that aren't withheld from the public. The company's focus is currently Total Immersion games, a type of system developed by the company's head himself along with the help of his twin sister, Elincia. Total Immersion is a term used to describe the complete illusion of a virtual reality, where one's mind is completely inmeshed with the game using a variety of techniques. In the beginning, the brain was only slightly stimulated using basic improvements on the most common virtual technologies. These stimuli were aided by more conventional means like rough scent chambers within the virtual pod and atmospheric controls, also located in the pod. The downside of these early, rough systems was the requirement of an attentive technician to be constantly present as the automated systems often caused problems and delayed reactions.

When Renderson began work on improving the technology for an older company while they were still a small time firm, they had a revolutionary idea. This idea is the basis of Virtual Kingdom, the very first true Total Immersion System that requires very little direct monitoring. To make their idea of completely simulating the game world within a player's own brain a reality was only made possible through hundreds of Neurologists and other specialists, all who had been inspired by gaming throughout their entire lives. Thousands of hourse were logged in this in depth undertaking and finally the end result is being revealed in its Grand Opening around the world. Gamer's everywhere, mainly avid gaming club members along with a few lucky raffler winners, exitedly attend the events in anticipation. The question is, will the gamer's rule the Virtual Kingdom, or will the kingdom...

...Rule Them.

Safety User Agreement:
-----In Other Words, The Rules

By Participating in this Total-Immersion Roleplay, you hereby agree to all stated Rules and Requirements, which are subject to change at any time as Renderson Enterprises so sees fit:

GENERAL
1. Follow the ToS
2. Follow ALL Guild Rules
3. Follow ALL rules set aside by me, my word is law here
4. Be nice to fellow players, just because your character is rude doesn’t mean you should be
5. In context of the previous rule, no swearing, in or out of character. There are more creative ways of being angry.
6. Keep Romance PG. Nothing you wouldn’t let a five year old watch m’kay? I won’t bite your head off unless it gets too questionable though…

PROFILES AND POSTING
1. If you’re not happy with what you’re assigned, don’t whine. Just let me know and we’ll kill off the current character so they can restart the game. Read on for further info on that.
2. On another note, in the story certain decisions your character makes have predetermined outcomes, just like a video game, so don’t whine if your character dies. There will be a subtle prompt in the situation between you and an NPC in these situations. If you do the wrong thing, it will trigger a restart, but you can breeze through that easy and get back to where you messed up and if you handle it right it has the potential to be a really fun RP device so bear with me. For more details read SYSTEM MANAGEMENT
3. Again, be cooperative, I can’t emphasize this enough.
4. PM all profiles to me with the subjects: Virtual Kingdom: Beta Tester or Virtual Kingdom: New Player
5. Be Literate. Be as Literate as you can. If you can’t be Literate, ask to be helped to become literate if you really want to play in this RP. I’m asking for two to three paragraphs minimum, which is not hard at all if you take in all that I will provide for you. More is wanted though.
6. If you have any problems or plot twists, PM me, myself, and moi.
7. Only I have the power to kill off characters without permission, your characters, on the other hand, must have it approved or else it isn’t fair to anyone else.
8. Post at least twice a week to keep things going, or tell me if you won’t be able to.
9. You cannot be all powerful. When I send you info on your in-game persona, that should be taken care of, but sometimes you never know. This is to limit the number of theives, rogues, mages etc, if there is a large number of people.
10. Please send an RP sample so I know where you fall in.
11. No bumping or all OOC posts.
12. Use an OOC format situated at the top of a post.
13. Wait for acceptance.
14. If you are rejected, please look over the notes I make to your profile and fix what needs to be changed before resubmitting or complaining. I’m more than willing to hear you out if you don’t whine.
15. Lastly, use size ten fonts, and most importantly of all, have fun!

*Things will be added and rearranged from time to time, but these are the essentials. I will inform you if changes are made that affect you.
**When I have more time these rules will be rearranged for clarity since there are a lot ((Taken care of.))
***I can and will ban you if you blatantly disobey my rules, very few warnings will be given before this happens.

Profiler Systems
------Please Provide Accurate Information to the Best of Your Ability

Races
-------Currently Available, Updated as story progresses

Humans: The main and ruling race of Armareth, humans are the only character types available to players at this time. Because of their versatile and inquisitive natures, humans have many jobs and classes, each fitting their own personal talents although many are not given the opportunity to prove themselves due to the complicated social structures they impose upon themselves. Classes include:

King: The ruler of Armareth. He is responsible for the majority of the decisions made in the kingdom and holds the most power among the people. The king is a NPC.

Nobles: The upper class of Armareth, nobles hold a lot of influence in the kings court, some making bribes and threats to make their interests met while others are content to live in luxury while lower classes suffer and the kingdom lies in turmoil. Fewer still actually care about the peasantry and do what they can to help them through less underhanded means in comparison to their counterparts.

Scholars: The highest educated class in Armareth, scholars serve as tutors and advisors to the Royal Family as well as many influential nobles. They also run a number of large schools around the land for those who can afford them.

Mages: Scholars who have taken their studies of Armareth's arcane arts to an entirely new level, only a few have the gift to control the many spells and elements with even a slight amount of power. Armareth's magic is generally chaotic, and it often backfires. Generally mages travel the land, seeking out the truth of legends as well as hidden talents to whom they can pass their knowledge.

Knights and Soldiers: Dutiful warriors from noble houses, these men make up the Royal army and police forces. Trained from the young age of seven, Knights are skilled in a variety of weapons, though most notably the shield and sword. Soldiers on the other hand are generally known for their talent with the lance.

Guards: Personal soldiers of the noble classes, they have very similar training to knights and soldiers although they are specially trained to fight within buildings and against more cunning foes. They are generally either incredibly smart or overly brutish.

Servants: They serve the noble class diligently, and gossip constantly. The perfect source for noble intrigue, they see all and know all and yet never seem to be noticed or acknowledged as people.

Rangers: Warriors who lack the traditional training of a Knight, rangers are skilled with sword, bow, and dagger. They wander the kingdom helping those who hire and are often unconcerned with the Royal going's-on. Silent hunters they can vanish without a trace.

[Rogues: The upper class among thieves, they are the lords of the night and all answer to them. Each city has their own, but all answer to one, The Midnight King, who supposedly resides in the capital city.

Thieves: Quick and nimble they steal for a living or live to steal. Cunning folk fit in here, and they are often sought out for a nobleman's dirty work. The path of the thief is often harsh, although supposedly the king keeps a select few in his employ.

Commoners: The average folk of Armareth, they can be blacksmiths, weavers, cobblers, etc. The working class that keeps life in Armareth going. Very few travel unless they are traders or they are going to a celeration in one of the big cities or noble holdings.

Peasantry: The lowest of the low, these folk have no power or no individual skills. They generally work on farms for food and board but little more. Many a peasant can be seen begging on the streets. Most peasants were taxed beyond their means by greedy nobles who abused the autonomy withing their holdings.

Note: I WILL NOT take requests, but I will listen to your preferences if you state them. Just give me something of a variety to choose and work from okay?

Also PLEASE include a RP sample for me. This is a must, and I will ask if you don't give one so save us both some trouble by doing it up front. I am tired of asking people for a RP sample, and until I receive one from you I WILL IGNORE your profile. The sample helps me get a feel for how your character acts and I can better work them into the current plot. Please please please include it....Ahem, anyway...

Current Players:
------Immersed in the Program
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

sweatdrop It seems that I have lost the profiles for a couple of people over my very hiatus, since their PM's were pushed out of my inbox I have no way of telling them they can start. If you are checking here to see if I've put your profile in and are still interested, please PM me again because I do have characters written for you from before I had to take a break from Gaia. Thanks for your (I hope) patience with me. sweatdrop

Some are short, simple, and to the point, but I'm going for quality of writing and story, not quantity of information...

Gaia Name: chewylove
Character Name: Adrea Noire
Age: 17
Nationality: Caucasian
Country of Residence: USA

Physical Description: Adrea is a bit on the shorter side at 5' 3", but don't let that fool you. Her naturally blonde hair is styled in a boyish pixie cut, accenting her high cheekbones and hazel eyes. Fair of skin, she burns easily but almost never tans (much to her chagrin). Her favorite attire consists of a fitted hoodie and tank top, over a pair of casual sandals and a jean skirt. She almost always wears several earring piercings besides this, along with a mischevious grin.
Special Talents: A dancer since the age of three, Adrea is very fit and flexible.
Personality Type: She's a blonde through and through. Bubbly and vivacious, Adrea is ever the optimistic, even if she isn't quite the brightest crayon in the box.
Specialized Knowledge: She's well versed in the aesthetics of performance art, and especially delights in jazz. Bizarrely enough, she also has a photographic memory even though she positively loathes studying.
Brief Personal History: Adrea had a relatively normal childhood, growing up in the suburbs with her family. She's currently a junior in high school, doing the usual school thing.
How she came across Virtual Kingdom was partly her cousin's fault; he'd forgotten his wallet at home and she'd offered to drive it over to the Grand Opening for him. When she got there however, he'd taken sick with food poisoning and gave his data cards to her so they wouldn't go to waste. Not on to pass up on an opportunity of any kind, Adrea agreed to go ahead and give it a try.
Hobbies: Dancing of course! She also likes to volunteer down at the local animal shelter.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Gaia Name: Rhm
Character Name: Tim Kinomoto
Age: 16
Nationality: Half American, half Japanese on his father's side
Country of Residence: USA

Physical Description: Dark brown hair, green eyes. Not overly athletic, but can hold his own. Is slightly lanky.
Special Talents: Is good at free-running.
Personality Type: Good-natured and excitable, but can get very fired up if someone wrongs a friend of his.
Specialized Knowledge: Good at trivia and loves to learn odd things that under normal situations wouldn't be helpful. But in a virtual world...
Brief Personal History: Tim (Timmy to his friends) lives a fairly normal life. He doesn't like school very much but does well enough in it. He loves to learn trivia and odd tricks like slight-of-hand and lock-picking. He was invited to the grand opening of Virtual Kingdom, as his dad is a senior member of the company.
Hobbies: Magic-tricks, trivia, and free-running.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Gaia Name: almanorigin
Character Name: Aric Faust
Age: 17
Nationality: American
Country of Residence: USA

Physical Description: Blond and short. Somewhat thin. Wears glasses over his blue eyes. Wears t-shirts and jeans more often than not.
Special Talents: Very good at chess and checkers, and a semi-avid video game player.
Personality Type: Happy and imaginative. Not the most intelligent person out there, but very logical and unique in his ways. Talkative and enjoys meeting people.
Specialized Knowledge: Studies archaeology as well and mythology.
Brief Personal History: Grew up in a regular family in a medium-sized town. Took after his brother, who enjoyed video games and sci-fi and fantasy books. Entered a contest and won a trip to the beta testing of the new game: Virtual Kingdom.
Hobbies: Video games, chess, checkers, reading, legos (despite his age)

---------------------------------------------------------

Gaia Name: Magnavar
Character Name: Ted Simmons
Age: 22
Nationality: American
Country of Residence: Japan

Physical Description: 6'0", skinny. Brown hair, medium length. Blue-green eyes. Not lanky, but not well-muscled either.
Special Talents: Good at martial arts. Can use most weapons, although not efficiently. Arguing. Annoying others.
Personality Type: Impulsive, arrogant. Caring to friends, stand-offish to people he doesn't know or don't like.
Specialized Knowledge: Science, math, video games
Brief Personal History: Born in the US, he grew up taking regular classes. Picked on at an early age, he took up martial arts. When he started to fight back against the bullies, they left him alone. He started to protect others who couldn't do so, so he was liked fairly well. Then he moved to Japan. While he was there, he progressed further with his martial arts training. Completed his schooling in Japan, and started college for computer simulations. Although he is constantly reprimanded for playing games while online.
Hobbies: Reading, sleeping, fighting, games

System Management:
------How things are run, banned players, quick reference, etc.

If there are any questions about the program and gameplay, they will be answered here if not otherwise stated in the rules. This is to ensure clarity and to help others to better understand the game.

A few quick ones already asked about:

In Game Persona: This is the character that the character you will be playing as is playing in the virtual reality game. Did that make any sense at all? Of course it did. You are playing a game about playing a game. You decide who YOU are, but just like a video game you have little to no control about who your persona character is. The personality of your persona is YOUR character. The only difference is that your in game persona knows things about their world within the game. They act as a guideline while you play things out. Say you know nothing about being a farmer. Your in game persona will fill things in for your character so you can move on in the game. Not to say that everyone is a farmer. I expect everyone would kill me if I did that. Anyway, moving on.

Beta Testers: (Also known as assistant GM's as needed) People who will be given information regarding plotline like they’ve played the game before so that they can help other players along and guide the story while the GM (me) is unavailable. They will be able to keep things moving and working smoothly. This requires a lot of dedication and willingness to work with me. You must convince me that you are a capable player. Also, if I feel that you would make a good Beta Tester from your profile and posting habits, I might ask you if you're willing to play in that role.

NPC Prompts: Please pay attention to these as they contain pertinent information regarding Game Restarts and Side Quests ((to be discussed more extensively further into the RP))

Game Restarts: Are triggered when certain choices are made. If you trigger a restart, a death sequence will occur, no physical pain is experienced, and you will ‘come to’ at the most recent key point of your game before the choice is made. Any problems can be mentioned in the ‘Limbo’ state between games such as Persona Castings, etc, but any alteration in these will result in a total restart back to the very beginning of the game. Please incorporate all character change requests during such times in the RP so that other players can be made aware of casting changes, but be sure to PM me first so that things can be set up for this change.

And a random disclaimer from the GM:

Please don’t demand that I let you choose your IN GAME class. I’m trying to fine tune a RP system idea I’ve had for a long time where players must adapt to new situations and in reality, you do have a lot of freedom. Like I said before, it's rare you get to choose who your character is in a video game. You are still the one who reacts and chooses how you react. This will be really fun if you bear it and work with me. I know it’ll be great if it works, and if you have suggestions to make it work better, feel free to say so in a PM. I WILL consider them and look into things. I need good, dedicated players to make this work. I also need REALLY good people to play Beta Testers, moderators would be a real plus if they want to play (although I'm sure they have better things to do ^^; ) since they have a little more control over post deletion, editing, etc, and they would be able to better help me organize things if they want to help. Not that it really matters, I think I'm getting things sorted out pretty well for the first part.

Quick World Reference:
------Currently Unlocked and Revealed Game Locations

It is very probable if a lot of people join up that there will be other threads opened up in this RP for organization purposes, but until then things will be put up here. I’m trying for advanced in this RP, but until my pathetic organization issues are resolved I doubt it will happen. I can’t wait for that shiny Advanced Subforum; I think it’ll help things out a lot if we do make it in there and end up with multiple threads When a new location is reached it will be described here, because just like in a game, you really don’t know about it until you’ve been there right?. Anyway, we’ll see how this whole thing works out, and I’ll do my best to sort things out and get us into the Advanced Forum.

Evienna Manor –

Evienna is the largest holding in the kingdom of Armareth. Owned by Lord Evan, its actual affairs are controlled by his daughter Lady Andreanna. The estate is covered with forests, and the inner gardens of the Manor are those of legendary beauty although the building itself has seen better days. Considered dark and dank by some, it is nonetheless furnished with the most extravagant of décor. The Evienna lands are dotted with small towns and farming villages, many of which have inns run by lower members of the Evienna family. There has been much activity in the region since the death of the prince and rumors abound about their Lady who would have been queen. Evienna is about a days carriage ride from the capital with the aid of magic.

The Capital City - ((in progress))

Current Game Status
------Organized by Characters

Game updates will be placed here so that you don’t have to read through fifty posts (if there are fifty posts) to get caught up with the story or your current plotline.

Right now, players will begin in a group gameplay for interaction, but eventually characters will be coming in on their own or will wait for someone else to show up in the lobby of the game center.

1.The Roleplay is now open and the first three players are currently going through the Renderson building to the Immersion Pods. Tim and Andrea are already in the pod zone and our next players should follow soon.

10/07
The funeral will take place in two (2) game days…I think.

Andreanna, our Lady Evienna and villainess, is preparing to travel to the capitol along with Tedelior, her Dragon Knight guard.

Rhotim, our trickster, is preparing to intercept and ‘observe’ her.

And Aric, our mage, is at the capitol with his family, waiting for the funeral to take place.

Elincia sighed as she sat ponderously at the information desk, an annoyed scowl on her face. The Boston Facility's Immersion tech had called in sick earlier that morning and Edward had ordered her to manage the facility for the day.

"Honestly, just because he's the older twin..." she muttered to her miniature genetically engineered sphinx. It nodded its graceful head in agreement to her unspoken words. She glanced up at the locked doors, the press of bodies obvious on the other side of the opaque glass that kept sun glare off the more traditional gaming machines. Groaning she stood and put on an ironic smile. "I hate dealing with people," she complained as she walked to the door, tapping her small speaker clip only after she had muttered the words. A small beep emitted as it turned on, linking to the buildings exterior speakers.

She took one last glance at the peaceful quiet of her refuge of technology. All along the walls of the massive facilities main lobby were hundreds of traditional gaming systems. She smiled as she imagined playing with the clunky controller's. The walls were plastered with game posters as well as digital advertisements for the virtual reality games on the systems on the second floor. She sighed as she glimpsed the gigantic room around the corener full of the hundreds of her precious immersion pods that would be used today. She grimaced, her love for gaming conflicting with her human annoyances on the other side of the wall. It was all part of the job after all.

As she turned she added a final touch as she activated her holo system, another, smaller clip on her right lapel. Instantly her appearance changed from the seventeen year old, fair skinned and dark haired computer whiz to a red headed woman in her late twenties. It wasn't exactly her favorite appearance, but it did make her look more like the authority figure people imagined of a large company's Vice President.

Opening the doors as she spoke the scripted instructions to the players, Elincia submitted herself to the press of excited gamers as she introduced The Virtual Kingdom, her mind falling in sync with the dull hum of management.

Adrea swallowed heavily, feeling the pressure of built up ozone sliding down her throat. Perspiration beaded along her hair line like morning dew. A pretty idea, she thought grumpily to herself. Too bad it's so gosh darned hot. The walk from her car to the game lobby felt like ages, and indeed it was, taking her a full ten minutes to weave her way in and out of the parking lot mayhem. Joey hadn't been kidding when he'd warned her it might take a while to get there.
But finally, solace. Adrea entered the vast gaming building and was immediately greeted by a welcome blast of air conditioning. The sweat across her forehead gelled in the faux cold refreshingly, and she couldn't help breathing a long sigh of relief.
"Adrea! Over here!" It was Jun, Joey's gamer friend. Adrea spotted him waiting towards a wall, waving and hovering over her rather ill looking cousin.
"Hey guys! I got here as soon as I could." She chirped cheerfully once she'd made her way over.
Joey kind of wagged his hand wearily at her. "Here, you should... uhn," he grimanced, then continued, "should take this. Don't let it go to waste." From out of a back pocket he handed her what she recognized as some kind of registration forms, and a card thing.
"It's all set up for you." Jun offered as Adrea accepted the items. "Anyway, I'm going to get this kid home. I might come back later, but," he shrugged, "it wouldn't be the same without ol' Joe Joe here."
"Oh. Well... are you sure Joey?... Yeah? Um, okay then. Why not?" Adrea agreed. "Feel better then Joe!" Jun pulled Joey to his feet and carefully escorted him outside, Adrea merrily waving to their retreating forms.
"Right... game thingies..." She muttered to herself once they were gone. She turned to look at the vast mass of gamers, suddenly not feeling so confident anymore. She had no idea what she was supposed to do now.

"I still don't see why I had to where a suit," Timmy said, pulling at the suffocating collar.
"Because this is a huge event and the Kinomotos are going to look nice for it," his father replied, "Just be happy I could bring you."
Timmy sighed, "I am happy, Dad. It just seems weird that I have to where a freakin' tie when I'm going to be playing a video game.
Mr. Kinomoto smiled slightly. "Trust me," he said, "You won't even notice it's on once you start playing."
Timmy sighed and tried to look bored and resigned, but inside he was just about bursting with excitement. His dad had been dropping hints for months about this Virtual Kingdom thing and Timmy couldn't stand it any longer: He was itching to play.

The limo ("No way!" Timmy had yelled when he saw they were riding in it) pulled up to the front steps of the Renderson Enterprise. Mr. Kinomoto and his son stepped out of the lime and joined the rest of the top programmers as they walked in. There were a few pictures taken of them, but most of the news people were waiting for the main event and the Renderson's.
Before this event, Timmy had looked up tons of trivia on the Renderson Building and was running them through his head as he walked in. Most notably was the fact the the Building had been made from the stones of the Roman Coliseum after it collapsed. It had cost a small fortune getting it build, and Timmy still didn't really see the point of it. He guessed that Mr. Renderson was some kind of eccentric.

Timmy pulled himself back to the present as he entered the packed main room of the building. There were a lot of snobby looking people there and Timmy couldn't believe that they had all come out for a video game. But then again, this wasn't exactly Mario 64. This was supposed to be big. Really big. He craned his neck and could see the glass floor of the second level with workers walking back and forth doing the final preparations. He could see the bottom of some pod-like things hooked to computers.
"Timmy," his dad said. Timmy brought his head down and looked at his father.
"Yeah?"
"I have to go help with the final preparations. Stay around here and I'll meet up with you later."
Timmy nodded and his dad disappeared into the crowd.
Timmy brought out a coin and started working the crowd around him: did some disappearing and reappearing, made some people grin like a child with the amazement reserved only for magic. He walked around the room, easily socializing until he made it to the front of the room.

Elincia smiled cordially as the first players approached the desk, their cards at the ready. She waved at a stunned Mr. Kinomoto as he walked by into a back room to help with very last minute preparations, his nice clothes made her giggle slightly, but then again, he was always one to impress. Taking cards and scanning them she ran players through the rules and procedures, asking them seemingly random questions that would determine their character typing in the system as she keyed in the answers.

Glancing around, she saw a boy in much the same attire. Probably his son... She guessed as she glanced around the bustle of people. Up against one wall she caught sight of an incredibly ill looking boy handing off his card to a blond, bubbly looking girl. She laughed inwardly and took another ticket from the next person in line. The Kinomoto boy was getting closer now, and she seriously considered commenting on the clothes. Of course, other people were even more dressed up, but employees were always a lot safer to make fun of and tease. Offhand she noticed him doing slight-of-hand magic tricks and smiled. He'll definitely make for and interesting character...
