I saw this post in one of the threads while lurking around in the Main Guild Forum. La Veuve Zin What works? Inform people about birth control. Pass out condoms. Talk to girls and let them know it's okay to tell boys no. Help women who don't want to be pregnant stay not pregnant. Ask your health insurance provider to cover sterilization. Ask your doctor to be tolerant of young people who want to be sterilized. Fix society so there are no unwanted fetuses in the first place. If even the most hardcore [Personally Pro-Choice] woman never gets pregnant, she can't have an abortion. Simple as that. I have to say, this is something that I feel everyone can do to help this issue, no matter if one is Pro-Life, Pro-Choice, or undecided. Opinions?

Yes i'm sure there are things that everybody can do to help.
Teaching about safe sex (protection,contraception,ect...) and abstaince (for ones that choose it).
As for sterilization, the reason why doctors won't do it on young couples is because most young couples never had kids and they might change their minds which can result in law suits (dumb since they did consent to it but it has happened before).

Some main reasons for teenage pregnancy;
1. Ignorance 2. Guilt related to sexual activity (I found this one very interesting) 3. Minimal communication about birth control. 4. Alcohol use. 5. Mass media norms of unprotected promiscuity.
Straight from my psych text book. I can elaborate on any of those if asked.
Anyway, I agree, as most people here know. HOWEVER the problem is that most of the organizations that support those kinds of things, also support abortion. I will join a pro-life organization, I will join a neutral organization. I will NOT align myself with a pro-choice organization.
So for instance, I will not volunteer at the women's centre on campus, as I was planning on doing. Why? Because they hand out pamphlets about "why we are strictly pro-choice". I'm not pro-choice, thus I don't feel welcome.

Straight from my psych text book. I can elaborate on any of those if asked. Guilt about having sex? Wow. I mean, it sort of makes sense, in a totally mentally unhealthy way. But it makes more sense, to me, that if one feels guilty about sex, one would stop having sex... Beware the Jabberwock Anyway, I agree, as most people here know. So for instance, I will not volunteer at the women's centre on campus, as I was planning on doing. Why? Because they hand out pamphlets about "why we are strictly pro-choice". I'm not pro-choice, thus I don't feel welcome. That sucks. They are driving away great people, like you, who would otherwise help them and help women on campus, because they can't leave their political beliefs out of their organization. I mean, even if all of the members were individually Pro-Choice, why should the centre have to be? Chances are, this very thing might keep women who need their help from going there, because those women are Pro-Life. *shakes head* To me, it makes more sense to have a neutral organization. Thus allowing unintentionally pregnant women to go there and get information about local adoption laws/rules, adoption centers, ways to get financial help and support if she chooses to keep the pregnancy and raise the resulting baby, as well as just the location of an abortion clinic. I don't know, maybe they already give out this information...

I will join a pro-life organization, I will join a neutral organization. I will NOT align myself with a pro-choice organization. I think part of the problem is that a lot of strictly pro-life organizations are very religious based, and promote the abstinance only crap. (At least around here they do.) So the pro-choice places are really the only ones who actively try to get the safe sex stuff out there.
I don't think you can really have a neutral organization either. If you inform people on all the options equally, including abortion, you'll be labelled as pro-choice. That's why a family planning center here got shut down. It didn't perform abortions or hand out birth control or anything, just provided counseling. neutral
I agree with you and Waters though, centers should just get the information out there. They shouldn't bother labelling themselves as pro-choice or pro-life.

According to my text book this one comes from people feeling like... if they tell someone to put on a condom, or start taking birth control, they're anticipating having sex. It's like, they feel better about it if they don't feel the intention was there, kind of thing, it just 'happened'.

It's actually better for society if we let young women choose to sterilize themselves, because there will be less children, and those who do want children later can adopt and be loving parents for children who desperately need good homes. Everyone wins.

Well in Canada you can get sterlized for free, but it costs money to reverse the procedure.

I have a friend who never wants children, and she is tiny (like, maybe 5' and probably less than 100lbs) and her husband is 6'3", so having his kid might like, explode her. But doctors here just won't sterilize a chick until she has at least two kids, and is at least 25 (that's what doctors told my sister at 19, when she wanted to be sterilized - instead she ended up having a baby about 10 months after that).

Explode her? I highly doubt that. If a midget can have a baby then i'm sure that she won't explode. But under 100 pounds doesn't seem too healthy, i'm 4'10/4'11" and my healthly weight is over 100 pounds (I can't remember but it should be around 105-115, I still need to lose weight since i'm over how much I should weigh). My mom is an inch shorter then me and she didn't explode, in fact she told me that she had no problems when she was pregnant with we so that proves short/tiny people can have child and won't die.

I was joking. She could be rendered sterile through giving birth, or bleed too much. I didn't mean that she would actually explode, since people (even pregnant women) don't do that without the help of explosives, usually. However, my friend doesn't want children, ever. I think that she might be able to use her tiny size and her husbands giant size to convince a doctor to sterilize her, due to possible risks. She wants to be sterilized.

Well in Canada you can get sterlized for free, but it costs money to reverse the procedure.Only when its warranted. Basicly, you have to proove why. (New grilfriend's canadian, she's looking over my shoulder)
