Urg it was hot. Nsundu's tail flicked irritably as she gave herself a good shake, trying her hardest to get rid of the flies that were pestering her. Didn't they have some sort of large rhino to pester right now? Why were they bothering her, especially on such a hot day? She grumbled inwardly, her ear twitching when a fly buzzed near it. Okay, she had to get out of this heat.
The lioness glanced around, before spotting a small oasis in the distance. Aha! Hopefully the shade would keep away these dumb flies. She picked up a feline trot, focused solely on reaching the oasis. Shaaaade!

Vinya'nyota had experienced a similiar problem to the chocolate-coloured lioness, except hers was more to do with her pale coat. Although her white fur kept her reletively cool in the sun's heat, it also meant that she had very little protection from the sun's rays, and she feared that the skin underneath her fur may burn. Because of this, she had taken shelter at the very same oasis that the brown adolescent was heading for.
Vinya'nyota sighed lightly as she looked around, her lilac eyes looking scanning the oasis, causing her to think back to the oasis which she had once called home. She frowned lightly, causing the salmon pink markings around her eyes to wrinkle up. That was a dark chapter in her life, which she had to try and put behind her.

Must reach shade! It was far too hot on the Savannah for someone of her colour to be basking in the sun's rays. The oasis would be a much better place to enjoy the day. She was so focused on where she was going that Nsundu didn't notice the white lioness in the oasis. It was only when she had taken a drink did the pink on Vinya's fur catch her eye. The lioness lifted her head to look at her companion, ears swiveling forward. Had she been there before?
"Hey," she offered, somewhat glad that she had met a female and not a male, "This where you live?"

Vinya'nyota hadn't been so oblivious to the other lioness as she approached, but remained silent anyway. Although she wasn't an anti-social girl, she was rarely one to strike up conversations. When the chocolate lioness finally noticed her, she flicked her paw in a rather lazy-looking greeting. It was just too hot to stand up and address anyone properly. "Hey."
At the stranger's question, she shook her head. "Nah. The oasis I was born in was much bigger than this one." She grinned, in an attempt to hide the ill feelings she had towards that particular oasis. "This is just another stop on my journey."

"'s that what they call this?" Nsundu had just simply called these places fresh water with some trees. It was a very nice place, so she supposed oasis was a nice enough word to describe it. She would have to remember that. "You were born in one bigger than this?" She repeated, not sure how exactly that was possible. Could you be born under water in an oasis? The lioness' earliest memories were of a den, so she had always assumed that was a pretty normal place for cubs to grow up. Then again, it was probably the first place her mother found.
Her ears perked up at the mention of a journey, suddenly very interested. A journey! Maybe she was on one like Banny! "You met a stripey lion called Banny... what was his full name uh.... Banjoko?" There was always a chance. Adventures did seem to meet up with one another at some point.

Vinya'nyota nodded as the brown female repeated what she had just said, but decided to just leave it at that. The less she thought about her birthplace, the better. "Oh, by the way, my name is Vinya'nyota." She gave a brief smile as she waited for the other lioness to reveal her own name.
At the next question, the white and salmon pink female shook her head. "I haven't seen anyone else for quite some time, until now." It wasn't that Vinya'nyota avoided contact with others, she just tended to stick to routes that were less 'appreciated' by her fellow travellers. In other words, she went out of her way to take the longest and most difficult routes to get to wherever she wanted to go.

Vinya'nyota. Right. And it shortened so nicely to Vin. Her mother had definitely given her a nice name, at least in Nsundu's opinion. If you could shorten it without much thought, it was a good. Long names with huge intricate meanings were always a hassle. How did parents expect their kids to remember long names anyways? "Pleasure. I'm Nsundu." The lioness flashed her companion a grin, before moving to sit near her.
What? She hadn't seen anybody in a long time? Now that was just ridiculous. She must have gone out of her way to avoid other lions because Nsundu certainly ran into enough even when she was minding her own business. "Maybe you've been wandering around the wrong areas. I see new lions every day. You trying to avoid somebody?" It was a fair guess.

"Pleased to meet you Nsundu." Deciding that it would be rude to remain laying down with another sat beside her, she heaved herself up into a sitting position. Once she was sat up, she quickly patted down her body. Vinya'nyota took great pride in her appearence, and hated when her coat was anything but white.
As far as she was aware, she hadn't been trying to avoid anyone. But now that she thought about it, perhaps she had simply been doing it subconsciously. She eventually shrugged, but remained silent.

Nsundu answered the shrug with a shrug of her own, deciding that something must be up in order for her to avoid meeting others. But she wouldn't press her. It wasn't that she wasn't interested – which she was – but it was probably some sort of complex life story that Nsundu didn't have the patience to get through. It was probably a sad reason too, which was something that the lioness didn't like hearing. Females should be loud and proud, or at least in her opinion.
"So, you're on a journey, right? Where you headed?"

Vinya'nyota licked one of her front paws and quickly rubbed it over her face, making sure that she was dust-free. "Nowhere in particular." She mused, turning to Nsundu as she did so. "I just set out to see where my paws would take me." Saying that, she looked around. The oasis the pair were relaxing in was quite out of the way, and she had no idea where her former home was from here. Not that it mattered, as she would never be returning.
"How about you?"

Aaah, so she was on an adventure just like Banny. It was a shame the two of them hadn't met. Banny had been looking for a traveling companion, and Nsundu hadn't been able to oblige him. This lioness looked like she would have benefited from the companionship. Oh well. Perhaps she would meet up with the laddie at some point.
Nsundu's ears perked at Vinya's question, before grinning broadly at her. "Why, I'm on a quest to start my own pride!" The novelty of the idea still hadn't worn off yet. "I've got this guy to help me, and I'm going to teach everyone about rhythm and drumming and jewellery all sorts of things! It's going to be great," she assured Vinya. "You ever heard of any of this?"

Vinya'nyota, not being the nicest of lionesses at times, couldn't help but laugh at the idea of a lioness her age starting their own pride. "No offence, but running a pride is probably a lot harder than it looks." She said finally, a slight smirk on her face. Seeing that Nsundu was clearly thrilled about the idea though, she cleared her throat. "Erm...sorry about that..." She said with a sheepish smile. "I'm sure you can manage it if you work hard."
The rather vain lioness liked the idea of jewellery, but considering how stressful her youth had been, she was unsure if she had any sort of rhythm. "What do you mean by rhythm? Is it something to do with hunting?"

Nsundu blinked slowly when the lioness started laughing before her expression slowly changed into a scowl. Wait wait, was Vin laughing at her and her ideas? Because that was totally not cool. She waited, tail flicking, for her companion to explain herself. Running a pride was hard? Naw. It just involved making sure no one ate each other or anything stupid like that. Besides, she wasn't going to bring nasty people with her, so running the pride shouldn't be a problem. Only when Vinya apologized did Nsundu settle for being only slightly miffed, but still willing to talk.
"Rhythm and hunting? Naw, they're completely different. Rhythm is in everything. You listen to it, and then you find your own inside of you. It's like walking has four beats." She hopped up on all fours to demonstrate. "One... two... three... four. But if I wanted to, I can change it to three or five or add extra steps and make a rhythm. You'll know when you find yours, because then you can do anything. It makes you free."

The pale lioness raised a brow. "It makes you free?" She repeated, a slightly skeptical tone apparent in her voice. Vinya'nyota, with her rather negative outlook on life, failed to see what could be so great about this 'rhythm'. "I don't get how stomping around is supposed to achieve freedom." She snickered. "Unless you're stomping on some tyrant's head, or something like that."
Deciding to give Nsundu the benefit of the doubt, she got to her feet and looked down at her paws. "Ok, now what?" To her, walking was just walking and running was just running. She had never thought to actually listen to the sounds (or noises where she was concerned) her paws created.

Nsundu blinked at Vinya's answer, before shaking her head slowly. "It's not that kind of freedom. It's a different kind. It's hard to describe, but you'll know it when you find it. Trust me; I didn't believe it either until I saw it." She had only ever met one lioness who'd found her rhythm and that was her mother. It had only been because her father had disrupted it that she'd become what she was. Lovesick was the word, and it was definitely sickening. Still, Mnyama had embraced her rhythm for Nsundu, and the lioness would never forget it.
"If you don't believe me, why don't you come with me? Don't like the pride, you can leave. And even if you don't like rhythm, I'm gonna need people to make drums and jewellery. Do you like that kind of stuff?"
