Most of the bands we've played against aren't competition bands, but we are. There are a handful of those bands who work a bit more, get a bit more precise, go over things more, and memorize music faster, to get a rating that boosts their reputation.
Are you one of them?

Lets see...I'm pretty sure we are a competative band seeing that we praactice 15h 30 minutes of schedualed practice a week, and some on our own...but thats because we are the drumline, and want to be good.
I go to Ronald Reagan High. See ya'll at Grand Nationals! Were gunna win this time around.
Your First Competition Was great!
BOA Houston in Pearland. We won 1st place. The Hype was amazing. The crowd was amazing. I didn't fall down, and that was amazing.
Do you get better over the season?
Just a bit. I would fluxuate in my skills.
What has been your worst mistake?
Feet been out of time once...and got caught. But it doesn't matter because it was prelims
What made the show amazing?
The music was...alright. The marching was good. Nothing really spectacular
Seeing other bands
They all suck. Well, most of them do. Have no chance.
Losing to snobby bands?
Losing to them? We are the snobby band!

We're not a competiton in marching ( we're not bad though, we still make the top 3 in competitions) but we're more competetive in concert.

Yeah, we're one of them. Actually, people consider us to be one of the best in the state. Every competitiong we go to, I hear at least one person from each band say something along these lines--> "Oh great, THEY'RE here." Pretty much people from all over the state hate our school. One, we're one of the biggest 4A schools. Two, we tend to show off our money. Just a few years ago, they built a new stadium that is huge. It could pass for a small college's, actually. Also, instead of having a stantard trailer towed by a truck, we have a semi to haul all our equipment.
Our BDs put a lot of pressure on us from the first day of band camp until the very end. We have a long tradition of superior ratings at state (45 years. Bit of pressure to keep it up.) We tend to suck at our first competition, which really isn't one, cuz there's no scores. It's more of a clinic. But after that, we tend to do better, usually in the top three. We definatly get better over the season. Last year, we did sorta-not really bad, and the BDs made us come in for an hour before practices just to practice the basics. So, we kinda have to when it's that intense.
Personally, I haven't had any really bad mistakes. Just running into someone. But we've had some bad ones. A trombone lost their slide during a show, a guard member grabbed the wrong flag, etc.
I'm not sure what makes our show amazing. Our BDs say we're known for having high toes, so that, I guess. Then we play a lot of dynamics while playing. But we're not very flashy, so we're lacking in that area.
WE ARE A SNOBBY BAND! X) Well, the BDs are and that's what people tend to think about us. Really, we're not. Just competitive. We're good losers. Though other bands are snobby towards us if they win. We just shrug it off, though, and say "We just got to do better next time."

Kylidel Does anyone go to BOA'S. A big 4A school? Is that a double entandre? Ya'll moving to 5A? or what were at, Super 5a? We're big for our state. If we moved up to 5A, we'd be the only ones. That kinda blows all competitions.

Your First Competition We had our first competition last Saturday, and it was my first ever. Horror film for band geeks when we saw the tape. Phasing, not making forms, just...oh my gosh stuff
Do you get better over the season? We sound like we're getting better already. We're getting down to the nitpicky stuff
What has been your worst mistake? As a band, not watching the field commanders. But we have people who don't turn to the left and it is gross looking.
What made the show amazing? We did a blurred image effect on the first form. The music was well known to the audience "The Who's Tommy". We have great color guard, who won for our class AA
Seeing other bands I like seeing other bands, whether it be at football games or competition, but I don't like seeing those bands who are over zealous about marching. Like my band director saw a group from one band who was marching in step, hats in arms, from the bathroom to the buses. That's not what we're about. But you gotta love the bands that treat you better than you treat people in your own band.
Losing to snobby bands? Never saw our band move so fast out of a stadium after getting third. We were in a class with two absolutely outstanding bands, so we didn't have much of a chance with our band being 70% Freshman/Sophomore

heart i'm from Seguin high and we usually go to like, six competitions. but this year we are only going to thee.
First: today is our first, the Judson rocket review. i don't know if we will place but i know we have all three movements on the field now.
Better: N/A
Worst Mistake: playing 4 measures early at a football game. (not that bad...)
Made show amazing: one word- solos.
Seeing other bands: my favorite thing to do. it shows i 'm not the only one who is sleep deprived!
Losing to snobs: used to it. we always hear the same names. it's better when we beat them out!
wish us luck! domokun
EDIT: we won first place 5A, outstanding colorguard, outstanding percussion, and best all around with a score of 84.51! w00tness!

First: Our first competitions are later today... Better: Erm...yeah. Finally finished the final song and are in cleaning process. Worst: Hitting wrong note on vibraphone in a soli at the end of our first song...as a band though, it's talking too much. Amazing: Our trumpet leader's solo in our second song. It's freaking awsome, man. Other bands: The only other one I've seen was really small and slightly...suckish. But this is their first year being big enough to actually be on the field...so I'm not judging them. Losing: Erhm...don't know yet...
As for us, we're 4A in this competition...god, I hope that we beat Valley this year...nobody's been able to beat them for a few years, since nobody's been in their class...until us.

I miss competing. College bands never compete, but I remember making Grand Champions at ONE competition in my four years in HS, and it just happened to be my senior year. It made my cry. ;-;

My school's band only goes to one competition. We always rank very high but we never get first. There are always those bands who compete a lot that get in front of us. If we did another competition we would be really good.
Your First Competition: It was fun! We got 3/12. The top two bands were highly competitive and we did really well despite that. Do you get better over the season? Of course! What has been your worst mistake? Nothing too severe... bad horns up or missing a temp change. What made the show amazing? This really pretty hold at the beginning of part 3. Our show is Pirates. Also, the guard had a kickass sword fight in part 2.
Seeing other bands: I like seeing other bands. I prefer seeing them from a higher view because then the show looks cooler... I envy the really competitive bands. >_<
Losing to snobby bands? The ones we compete against usually deserve it. They compete far more often than we do. As my bad director says, "They exist to compete".

Our first comp was yesterday at the Royal Classic!!! Our school band got Sweepstakes for the first time since 1971! We also got the High Music trophy. Drumline recieved 1st in division and High Percussion. Color Guard got 2nd in division.
We have improved A LOT over the last two years. Two years ago our band hardly ever placed at comps and last year we won 1st place for the first time in five years.

We did better at our last competition that wasn't ours. We won pretty much everything, and then got Grand Champion and due to our faults at the first competition, we were all jumping and screaming like it was a miracle, but we also qualified for state the last two times, at our hosted competition and the one we competed in, but our problem is that we may not be able to get buses. The board won't give us money and we need to take it out of the uniform fund. Problem is that people aren't respecting the $500 dollar uniforms and they don't even hang their stuff up! They just leave it in the bottom of the garment bags!
We learned the names of all the people and one girl said "That's ignorance walkin' out the door."
