Most likely a grounding issue, take off your bridge and check the wire underneath, if there isn't one, there should be. If there is one, take a knife to the metal part of the wire to clean it, and sand the bottom of your bridge to clean it as well. You could also shield your cavities (pickup and control), it's a relatively easy process, just apply the tape or paint to every part of the cavity so you don't get any outside electrical interference. http://www.warmoth.com/supplies/supplies.cfm?fuseaction=copper_shielding http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_pickups/Supplies:_Shielding/Conductive_Shielding_Paint.html And no, aluminum foil won't do the same thing.

Or maybe your treble could be too high. It sometimes happens with mine, it buzzes, and when I put my hand on it it stops. I turn it down a bit, and it usually fixes it. Or it could be a grounding problem.

Passive pickups are grounded to the bridge most of the time.. thus... when you touch the strings the buzzing stops stops... most every passive pickup will do it to some extent... I hate passive...
and to comment your poll question... I hate Fender anything

My bass does that buzzing and then I touch strings or bridge and it stops...somewhat, I can still hear it if my amp is loud enough, or treble is high enough for that matter.
My bass is second hand, so no doubt it needs to be cleaned in every way possible.

Alright I think I got it. I took it apart & shielded the pickups & controls & now it almost never buzzes. Thanks!

Hows yours? its a touch fragile and i could use some new pickups i've broken the Active passive switch but all in all it still sounds rad and the groundings a bit out it buzz's when i'm not touching metal but all in all its sexy stands out sounds good and its really really playable! got a nice thin fast neck and a whole heap of sounds i can make it kind of sound like a Double Bass its rad

Damn basses are really tough at all points except for the wiring. I really hate it. Had to rewire my cheapo Dean Edge 01 before I learned about quality basses. I've purchased a Fender Jazz Bass (Mexico), and it's been really kind to me. I'd be terrified if it broke. Rewiring a more expensive bass like that... *shudders*
Perhaps you can post a Guide to rewiring it, with pictures and all? That'd help out a lot of us. Help us without having us destroying our basses, that is. xp

My first bass did that... but it was a shielding problem. The jazz bass I have now doesn't buzz at all (it's a Reggie Hamilton PJazz passive/active).
