Machines. Robots. Whether science-fiction or science-fact, the two equally co-exist in today's culture. In today's life.
Over 20 years ago, a Japanese anime creator by the name of Tomino Yoshiyuki, watched the premier of Star Wars in a Tokyo theater in 1978. This would forever change the course of Japanese history.
Nearly a year later, he created what was soon to be a phenomenon throughout Japan. He created what all would know as "Gundam".
Kidou Senshi Gandamu (Translated as "Mobile Suit Gundam") wasn't a success at first, being canceled midway through it's season. However, Tomino and others convinced the company to conclude the show with 43 episodes total. It laid unnoticed until a new model making company, called "Bandai" bought the rites to Gundam and reaired it on television, also making a new line of model kits.
Through this sucess, the series became a nataionwide phenomenon that forever changed anime, mecha, and the nation itself.
Throughout time, the original, first Gundam has changed, spawning countless spinoffs and redesigns. Here... we shall show, that a machine can truely evolve... As Bandai had forseen....

The first: RX-78 Gundam Drawn by Kunio Okawara, this is the very first incaration of the Gundam. The very first version. Indeed... the "mother of all mobile suits". While not having many "special" appearences, it was indeed new for it's time. It was the first "real-robot", requiring a pilot, and ended up being mass-produced (in the scaled down GM models). It is indeed a legend in itself. -Tansho S.E.

The Remix: RX-78-2 Gundam Ver. Ka Redesigned by reknowned artist Hajime Katoki, this more "modern" version was created in the mid 80s, around the time of Zeta Gundam. Many of the design concepts went on into Katoki's other works, such as Gundam 0080, 0083, and various GundaPla (Gundam Plastic) model kits. -Tansho S.E.

The Origin: RX-78-2 Gundam In the late 90s, Yoshiyuki Tomino decided to rejoin artist Kunio Okawara to retell the story of the first Gundam. Called "Gundam: The Origin", the comic style manga sold well and featured many redisigns of classic mobile suits. The Gundam was remade into a more modern "war machine" than that of the original series. It wouldn't be the first, nor the last remake of this classic legend... -Tansho S.E.

The Evolved: RX-78-2 Gundam Ver. "Evolve" In the new millenium, Bandai released a series of animated shorts set through the Gundam Multiverse and featuring design "updates" of classic models. The most noted design, was Kunio Okawara's redesign of the original Gundam. Nicknamed the "Version Evolve" it featured many radical rediesgns, many based off of Kunio's other works, Gundam SEED and Gundam OO. THis new design marks the latest, but certianly not the last, evolution of a legend. -Tansho S.E.
