09.14.07 - Well, I really screwed around with the pride, but now that I have the SoA guild in some more of a semblance of organization, I'm willing to give this another shot.
I will be holding RPs tomorrow (Saturday) at 8 a.m. CST and again at 8 p.m. CST, and then probably one on Sunday at 12 noon CST. These RPs will be in the guild but we will be finishing them up (or as much as can be possible) in one setting each.
If you have characters that moved on since the first planning thread, that's completely cool with me. If you want to be in the Chinese Pride and can make one of those times, go ahead and show up, and I'll post the links to the thread(s) where Afu (and Ahali, if wu wants to be in on this still) is organizing the pride and things are getting planned out.
If you want to be in on it, but don't have the time, post here with your character. Lords/Ladies, I just want to know if you're interested or not anymore. If not, that's fine! Just please let me know so I can try to find someone else to fill the roll if needed.
I will be setting up at least one pride RP every weekend, unless I happen to be on vacation. Please check here (and later the subforum, if we get that many people) for more information as to times.

Disclaimer: Much of the background for the Chinese Pride was put together by numerous people: pach, red, and wu being the top ones, but there have been numerous other people who have made contributions. You all share credit in the creation of this pride if you've made a contribution, even if you decide not to participate.
History:
N/A~ Will be finished when we complete the first RPs and the Bard position is filled.
Location:
The pride is located somewhat away from the rest of Shadows of Africa; it lies in the northwest territory of the vast Ethiopian Highlands: a mountinous, rugged area pockmarked with numerous valleys and salt lakes. The highest peak in the territory is Ras Dashan, the fourth-highest mountain in Africa, and the source of the Blue Nile, Lake Tana, is also present. Footing is treacherous in many places, and pridal members soon learn to negociate the difficult terrain, or perish.
Because of the location, the rainy season is unusually long and hard, and the climate temperate most of the year. The primary prey for the pride is Walia Ibex, a kind of wild goat; the Gelada Baboon; Mountain Nyala; and a multitude of large birds.
The Central Pride's territory: To be added.
The North House's territory: To be added.
The South House's territory: To be added.
The West House's Territory: To be added.
The East House's Territory: To be added.
Society:
Tianxia means 'all under heaven.' It symbolizes the unification of one mighty pride under two rulers, always a male and female pair: in this generation, Ahali and Afu. The pride itself will eventually become quite secretive and hostile to outsiders, but for now is cautiously welcoming to individuals wanting to join.
Like the pride name, personal names are also important to individuals. Members entering the pride, and those born into the pride, have two names: general names given to outsiders, and special Chinese-style names that are only known to the pride itself. For example, Afu's outside name is Afu, but her special name is Tzu Hsi.
The pride is organized into four Houses and one central pride that makes up the Emperor, Empress, and their retainers. The four Houses are North, South, East, and West.
The North House is _____
The South House is ______
The East House is ______
The West House is ______
The land is devided, and like suggested, the Central Pride's territorry stays in the center, between all other four houses. The North is north of the center, South is south, and so on.
In the lands, there are certain 'posts'. Members can generally live anywhere in their houses' territory, but these posts are specifically for guards to stay at on a rotational basis, are and are usually stationed near the borders, or where there is more prey. These guards move from each post for approximately a month or two, spending time defending the border or hunting. In each post, however, there is a commander, that is usually always stationed there, to supervise things, and make sure everything is going smoothly.
The central pride centers around the Emperor, Empress, their children, and their retainers, often a handful of bodyguards, nannies, a Bard, and a Speaker. Messengers go between Houses, and Ambassaders go between prides to carry information. Once every month, the pride gathers together at one of the Houses (or, rarely, at the Central House) for a feast and celebration.
For the moment, those entering the pride must prove their worth to the Lord or Lady whose house they wish to join, often by displaying certain attributes necessary to that house. The Lords and Ladies have full authority over the rankings within their House; the only ones who may contest these are the Emperor, Empress, and their heir(ess). Other species besides lions are accepted; however, they will rarely if ever attain a high ranking. Lions are the supreme creatures in Tianxia. Pelt color does not generally matter; but species and birthright have a great deal to do with one's status in this society.
Gods are particularly revered in this society and often serve as Guardians for a House, or even an important individual. They are allowed more freedoms and are entitled to a noble's status, although they must adhere to their Lord/Lady's law.
To children born within the pride, arranged marriages are the norm, although these may be changed as the years progress to a more suitable partner. It's a decision by the parents, however, not the children. In general, parents strive to choose a partner for their offspring that best exemplifies the traits of their house (strength, speed, intelligence, or creativity). Class is also important: a low-ranked member may not marry a high-ranked one. When they come of age, and if the two lions are in opposing houses, one must leave to join the others' house.
These marriages officially take effect once the partners reach adolescence. Males may have more than one mate, but they may not neglect the others besides their first mate (who will carry their heir(s)). Arranged marriages can occur between other prides, but the partner must join this pride. If a child should leave the pride, it's considered a disgrace and will not be welcomed back.
Mates are encouraged to have children in the pride early in life, although they do not have to have many.
In the future, those not of the pride are not tolerated within the lands without special permission from either the Emperor/Empress or one of the Lords/Ladies. Rogue hunting on the lands is not tolerated and will be punished immediately. For this reason, there are patrolling members of the pride whose duty it will be to make certain this doesn't happen, and to bring the offenders before the Emperor or Empress, or the local Lord/Lady for justice. (Please note that this will probably take some time for the neighboring creatures to realize that the area is 'off limits' to outsiders.)
 Rankings:
Emperor:
Empress:
Lord:
Lady:
Guardian: A Guardian is always a god who looks over either one of the Houses or sometimes a special individual mortal. Guardians are one of the only rankings who have the ability to travel outside the lands on a regular basis if they wish, without needing special permission to do so. Their duties include protecting the pride, but it goes deeper than that: they are considered advisers as well. Their powers must always be used for the good of the pride.

Twiddle I'm still interested in having Tui be a Lady, and I'm pretty sure pach still wants Yua as the Lord. I'll talk with her though~ 8D (( Pach is confirming this notion, as well as will have to talk to teh_Tui in order to name Yua and Tui's heir from their daughters (as well as chat up the owner of the eldest daughter.. AKA Nerp in order to see if she wouldn't mind it if I pinged that on her....) ))
