It was a rainy wednesday evening, and Alistair had somehow found himself in a rather ridiculous situation.
Talula had gone out to the local market in Cherryville to get food supples; she had been 'babysitting' Noire almost nonstop during the week for Sunny, that Alistair had begun to make a habit of cracking custody 'jokes.' Still, Noire had somehow managed to get out of the car before Talula left without her noticing (seriously, did you know deaf people could drive?) and had snuck back in to bother Alistair. Right after Talula left, the makeshift camera set up to spy into the ship wreckage and tube-room spotted a little boy emerging. Alistair saw this just as he saw Noire enter his office, and in a very 'manly' wail jumped to his feet, set the boy's transmitter to flash red, grabbed Noire' by the long elvish ears and drug her off to collect the new child. Now they were back in the compound and Alistair promptly told both kids to 'sit down and shut up' in the newly named 'welcoming office.'
Noire had remained dead silent the entire time, eyeing the newly emerged blond challengingly. He was brand new to the world and thusly not quite fair game just yet, as he got used to the brand new sensation of sight and touch and the smells and full force of sound. Maybe he would pick up quick and start talking soon, maybe he would curl up into a fetal ball. Personally, Noire hoped for the later, she needed a good laugh.

It was the oddest feeling. His senses were assaulted as he emerged into the world. He barely had time to register anything before people were there, whisking him off to the ‘welcoming room’. What on earth was going on? Despite the fact that he still had little clue as to what was happening, didn’t take him along to move into defensive status.
Aricin stumbled back away from Alistair and Noire. Blue eyes looked carefully between the both of them, warning them to stay away while he figured himself out. As of yet he hadn’t attempted to speak and now simply stood there, cautiously sizing up these odd people.
--
The man in his basement had explained, between the pleading for his life and complaints about the rats, that when the light on the transmitter changed colour Val would need to go to some building or other. So as soon as that ;oght flashed red Valkier had moved into action. Not hanging around to hear the exact details of why and who and how, he stuck the sock back into Tony’s mouth and then told Aaron to bring the car around.
After a bit of thought he dug an old tattered suit from the body of his closet. The dark haired man practised his smile a couple of times in the mirror, pocketed the transmitter that he’d taken from Tony, or Jeffers as he liked to call him, and marched out to the waiting car.
It didn’t take long to arrive, considering Aaron’s high speed, dangerous driving skills.
“Stay here.” Val ordered, casting a dark glare to the person sitting in the driver’s seat of the car.
“Neooow, neeeow!” The red haired man, who was currently spinning the wheel while pretending his was driving on a racecourse, gave a short nod. “Sure boss… neow, neowwww! Hey, don’t forget to fix your tie. It’s wonky.”
Giving the red tie a quick fiddle, Val turned and stomped towards the building.

Noire snorted at the other boy when he suddenly took on an all too familiar air so many of the kids on the playgrounds she frequented took. "What? Gonna talk now? Too afraid?"
Alistair rolled his pretty violet eyes into his pretty, evil little head. "Play nice now, Noire, his financiers haven't arrived yet. We want him alive while we get his daddy and mommy's money."
Noire scoffed as Alistair slammed the door to the office shut, it gave a click as it was locked behind; effectively locking Noire and Aricin in the office together. It was a fairly good sized office at least, a happy desk in the middle complete with happy propaganda and a happy picture of Talula, Noire and Sunny sitting proudly in the middle. There was a cheap boombox in one corner that Noire occasionally eyed, and a stuffed animal or two sitting on the single loveseat in the office. Just waiting to be gutted by some merciless child.
Alistair, meanwhile, slid the key into his coat pocked and gave a loud moan, complaining to whatever force cared to listen. He pulled out his cellphone and angrily punched the redial;
"Bloody hell, doesn't she have the thing on vibrate?" He was calling a deaf woman. Why she had a cellphone at all if she didn't set it on vibrate was beyond him. He had texted her a million times, but thankfully he was soon distracted when he heard a car pull up.
"At least this one doesn't waste too much time." He muttered to himself, walking to the entry way and pulling open the large front doors that came open with a crash of windy rain.

Aricin deemed himself safe. Whoever these people were, and whatever was happening, he wasn’t in any immediate danger. The door closed behind Alistair and he instantly relaxed, eyes loosing that wary gleam and becoming slightly bored. He glanced around the room, completely ignoring Noire as he inspected everything.
Turning his attention to his right hand, he flexed it. Complete control of his limbs; check. Senses no longer in overdrive; check. Weapon active; check. Well, all was well. Still not speaking Aricin wandered over to the desk, reaching out to grab various items and look them over.
Not very interesting. What a shame.
-
Valkier strode through the door a moment after they opened with a crash, blown in with the wind and rain. Although he damp he didn’t seem to mind, simply brushing down the front of his suit and flicking away any stray drops of water on his hand.
He eyed Alistair up and down with his dark gleaming eyes before taking out the transmitter and offering it. Since he wasn’t entirely sure why he was here, he opted not to speak. Quirking an eyebrow Val waited for this person to get to business.

Noire put her chubby little hands on her hips promptly. "Hey! I'm talkin' to you, stupid!" She yelled, marching over to the desk after him. It was strange, you would think she'd be a character hard to ignore, but she was strikingly used to it growing up amongst egos larger than the alien planet they walked on. "You aren't mute, are you? So many weird kids coming around lately. I was the first though, so that sorta makes me your queen." She told him with a nod, turning and pushing herself up so that she was sitting on a desk; effectively knocking the picture and a few other things off it. "That thing plays music." She offered, pointing at the boom box.
Alistair's eyebrows rose in turn. Staring at Val as if waiting for the speech to begin, Alistair eventually shook his head and took the transmitter into his hand. Funny, Alistair was rarely short for words, but it was apparently contagious. "The boy is in the office, sign these." He produced a small stack of papers from his coat and moved them toward Val. "Talula - ah, my assistant should be home any time now, she can more properly acquaint you with your new son if you find you have issues adjusting to whatever 'issues' you may have - ah, what do you do for a living, Mister ah...?"

What? This girl was demanding his attention was she? Aricin watched her placidly, scratching the back of his neck. He opened his mouth, frowned when nothing came out and then tried again. “M-my queen?” His voice came out in a croak, but he had at least used it.
Aricin looked Noire up and down again, not bothering to look at the ‘thing that played music’. This girl was worth another check. Eventually he shook his head slightly, giving her a condescending smile. “You can’t be my queen.” He picked idly at the hem of his shirt. “Unless you defeat me.”
--
Val tilted his head to the sound, blinking his eyes slowly as he processed Alistair’s words. “Boy?” He asked, trying to think back to whatever Jeffers might have been muttering about during one of their sessions. No such luck. Oh well. “Ah, the boy!” He said, deciding to pretend he knew what was going on.
He smiled, an act that was decidedly creepy, and followed behind Alistair. “No issues here. None at all.” He assured, deliberately forgetting to add his name. “Take me to the boy and we’ll get things started. All good.” Val’s voice was silky, and though he was attempting to be courteous, had an edge to it that would have normal people edging away.

Noire blinked a couple times, contemplating the challenge before cracking a grin. "Not that I have to, I'm queen by birth right! But I could, if I wanted." She said menacingly, oddly shaped miniature wings on her back flapping idly. While kicking her feet, she spun one of her fingers around in the air and a crackling black ball formed from the swirl. It seemed almost darker than black and if you stared at it too long it became rather hypnotic, all the while giving a truly dangerous feel. Thankfully for everyone involved, however, Noire's little antimatter exploit's weren't nearly as dangerous as their larger counterparts she'd soon learn to create. "And what can you do, servant boy?"
Alistair shook his head, "Not tell you sign the papers and tell me what you do for a living, Bob." He said, grinning back. "Look, this ain't an orphanage, I need to make sure these kids have the proper funding, if you catch my drift." Finding a bit of an equal playing level with Val, or so Alistair thought, he decided to cut to the chase and put things as bluntly as he'd ever care to.
Finally having noticed the angry messages on her phone, Talula had turned around and was pulling up behind the car Val came in. Scrambling out of the car, she looked relieved and pleased when she noted that Aricin's guardians were already here. Things would go so smoothly!
Oh, how wrong she was...

Aricin shook his head. “You cannot call yourself my queen.” He explained, watching her show of power with what seemed to be boredom. In reality he was interested. This was a challenge, and by the deadly waves that seemed roll off that black ball, she would be an interesting fight. “I already am in charge, my birthright calls me a leader. A king to counter you queen. Until I am beaten, I cannot serve you.”
It was all very simple really. She’d be stupid not to understand. A little exhausted by his big speech, quite an accomplishment for someone who had just woken up, he looked away. While he stood there, ignoring Noire challenge to show what he could do, he reached inward for the power he knew was there. It felt unstable, which wasn’t a good thing.
Control would need to be developed.
--
Valkier frowned. Bob? What a horrendous name. He was certainly no Bob. Pulling himself up straighter to his rather considerable height, he glared down at Alistair.
So far he had deduced that there was a child involved. And he was expected to take home said child. Whether that child would live happily in the spare room or with the basement with Jeffers was yet to be seen, but Val was finding himself rather looking to the next few days.
That alone made him pause and think, finally catching on to the implication of funding. “Give me whatever you need me to sign.” He licked his lips. “One moment please.” He turned and strode out the door.
A moment later he returned with a red haired man in tow, who was complaining loudly about rain and being dragged out into it. He quickly shut up when a pale hand came down firmly on his shoulder. “Er, yeah?”
“We need funds.”
“Oh.” Aaron dug into his pocket and brought out a fat wallet. He pulled out a wad of green bills. “Will this be enough? Heh. I think there's some more in the car.”

Noire frowned deeply, "I can too, and I will, like I just did!" She protested, the ball vanishing along with her mischievous mood. Now she was just annoyed, and angry; people were usually impressed. Impressed, or scared, but certainly not bored!
"You know, there's usually a queen AND a king, but I don't think I like you enough to let you be my king!"
She slid off the desk with a thunk and crossed her arms, tapping a foot she watched the other expectantly. "Fine. I'm waitin' for your big galactic explosion of power to hit, stupid."
Talula had since let herself in, smiling brightly at Aricin's guardians despite the fact they were entirely odd looking. She was trying not to judge. Trying hard.
Alistair, however, looked more alarmed than pleased; though, he was infact quite pleased. "Oh, don't be so grotesque! I'm not asking for money for the child, why, that would be like selling slaves, practically!"
Talula looked quite horrified at the insinuation her partner made, glance quickly falling between Alistair's lips and the others'. "Of course!" She suddenly interjected, her heavy 'arabic' accent and awkward speech patterns not shying her sudden loudness of tone. "Besides, you need that money to buy your child new clothes, and toys, and-"
"Oh, shut up Talula!" Alistair cried, slapping a hand over his face. "The boy's in that room over there, just sign the first three pages." He said, motioning to the papers he gave Val. "But be sure to bring him back every now and then!" Yeah. The boy, and the money.
Talula, meanwhile, hastily fell into step with Val and Aaron, anxious to meet Aricin herself. She loved all the children thusly; not so much their guardians.

The money disappeared quickly back into the wallet and then into Aaron’s pants. He grinned at everyone present, even the glowering Val, before something in his head went ‘click!’.
“Wait a second. A kid. You’re getting a kid.”
Val gave a short cough noise that meant ‘shut up right now’, which Aaron completely ignored. “No s**t! Holy cow. Whoo, you guys are absolutely insa- and Val here will make a really, really great father. He loves kids. Dontcha? Ahaha.”
“Yes. I love kids.” Val gave another one of his creepy smiles and let go of Aaron’s arm.
--
Aricin would not back down from a challenge, but right now he hesitated, knowing his control of the electricity inside him was definitely lacking. He didn’t want to hurt Noire, not one bit.
“Mm.” Ari stared down at his hand, a small frown creasing his brow. “I can’t control it properly yet.” He admitted. “But I will show you.” The frown lines disappeared, his face becoming expressionless and unreadable.
Without any effort on his part blue sparks appeared around the fingers of his right hand, they disappeared for a moment before returning at full force. The electric sparks travelled up his arm, covering the rest of his body. It crackled intensely, leaping from his body to the ground.
Ari kept it contained for as long as he could before he felt something inside shift. The electricity escaped his grasp, hitting the walls and travelling before he pulled it back in again. Almost instantly all the lights went out.
--
Nearly to the door Valkier came to a stop as everything went black.

Thankfully, Talula missed most of the play between Aaron and Val thanks to her glance on the door.
Alistair, meanwhile, shook his head a little. "This is wonderful, next time I need to break into the courthouse I'll have these guys' number on hand." He muttered a little too loudly under his breathe just as the lights gave out.
"What in the-"
Noire frowned deeply, watching the other boy intently. If he did something more impressive than her anti-matter children, she was gonna be seriously bent. It didn't look all that grand to her until the electricity became visible, and there was a distinct familiarity (she thought) between the appearance of their powers. It didn't last long - his 'lightning' shot out brash and uncontrolled, sudden and random. She gave a squeak she would deny later and jumped closer to the desk for a place to hide.
Moments later, when the room was dark, she stood up straight and had her arms crossed again. "Niiiiice. Alistair's gonna skin you alive for this one, you know?"
Talula didn't wait for Val to open the door, and she had been close enough to find it easily when the lights went out. She threw the door open and in an extremely awkward tone, "Kids? Kids! Are you alright? Oh, Alistair, I can't see! What's going on? Where is everyone?" Sudden frantic on the deaf and now blind woman's part, she flailed around rather madly trying to find the children's bodies.

“Oops. Oh well.” By the sound of his voice Aricin didn’t seem too put out by his little accident. “I told you I couldn’t control it well yet. I accidentally pulled more out than I needed.” He moved a few feet forward, trying to see through the impenetrable darkness.
Now the sound of the door opening and a woman’s voice. He peered across his shoulder in its general direction. “We’re here.” What on earth was she so worried about? It was just a bit dark.
--
Valkier gave a small hiss of annoyance. After carefully judging his place from the door and Talula’s position, Val strode forward with a purpose. “Move aside woman.” He growled under his breath, shoving his way past her.
Aaron was currently crouched on the ground, hands covering his head. “Oh man. I knew I shouldn’t have come. We’re all going to die! Val, do something!” He pleaded desperately, his eyes squeezed shut.
Meanwhile Val was trying to navigate through the office, but only succeeded in walking straight into the desk. Swearing bloody murder, he glanced around wildly. Damn it all. “Turn the damn lights on!” He demanded of nobody in particular, his left hand beginning to twitch slightly.
“Just a moment.”
Quite suddenly there was a blue, sometimes white, glow. Once his eyes had adjusted Val saw that there was a ball of what seemed to be electricity humming in a boys hand. “That better?” The boy asked.
Val leaned forward. “You’re the boy?”
“I’m a boy.”
“Good.”

After Val's horridly rude entrance Noire had made herself to Talula. "It's okay!" She coo'd, knowing full well she couldn't hear a thing. She found the woman's hand and pat it gently, easing Talula's fears. "Is everyone alright, Noire? Someone just pushed me.."
"Someone pushed you?" Noire asked, voice getting dark. The sparks came and the lights went on, Talula's face going from something wretched to relaxed while Noire's focused on Val.
"LOOK YOU a**-"
"My, I can't believe Sunny's teaching the children such words." Alistair muttered, sounding amused.
"DON'T PUSH HER, YOU JERK!"
Talula, meanwhile, grinned happily at Aricin. "You must be - welcome to the world! Do you have a name yet, sweetheart?" She asked, moving over to greet Aricin with a small hug, returning the shove to Val if he got in her way.

When he was suddenly yelled at Val just stared at young Noire, looking deeply puzzled. Never in his adult life had he had some little girl screaming at him like that and he wasn’t sure what to make of it. So, he figured he would just ignore it. Though if she didn’t shut her trap soon he was going to shove a sock down her throat.
A light! A blur darted into the room. Aaron practically fell over at Aricin’s feet, his face looking pale in the blue light. “We’re saved! I thought the apocalypse was happening. But the demons are gone now.” With a happy grin he sat cross-legged on the ground.
Aricin was getting a headache. He gave Talula a weak smile. “Thankyou. No, I don’t have a name yet.” He hugged her back awkwardly.
“I’ll give you one.” Aaron offered.
“No thanks. I’ll decide my own name.”
“Where were those papers I had to sign? I want to leave here. It smells funny.” Val asked Alistair, looking very impatient and rather unhappy.

Noire seemed satisfied that her thread had been taken to heart; even if it really hadn't. She marched over to Talula and eyed Aaron briefly, deciding quickly she liked him a great deal more than Val. "You gonna be his daddy or the stupid one?" She asked, glare still on Val.
"Okay, no hurry! Noire thought up her own name quickly, said a lot of people from where she was from used that name - maybe you can think of something like the same?" Talula suggested to Aricin, smiling happily. "You want a toy, something to play with? I have a bunch for the new kids to pick out!" She turned and studied the look on Val's face, deciding with great disproval this was yet another guardian she didn't like.
Alistair stared at Val blankly. "I gave them to you. Five minutes ago. You didn't...loose them on your person, did you?" He asked, as though the thought greatly disturbed him, while studying Val again. "You can leave as soon as they are signed."
"Wait! There isn't any hurry! The boy may need time to settle and meet his new-"
"Actually, I was thinking about taking an early dinner, Talula. Wear that strapless red dress of yours, and we can drop off the brat at the police station." Alistair merrily suggested.
Noire turned a horrified look. "I don't wanna! I wanna go with him!" She decided, moving promptly to take hold of Aricin's sleeve.
