For publicity maybe?
And hell, why wouldnt the opening to FFVII be at the end of the pre-quel to the game? Really now. Does that not click with people? Are people that bent out of shape about not having stellar graphics for a legendary game?
There have been rumors just like this one floating around since the release of FFVIII, with that games improved graphics over the ones in FFVII. Just because a few screen-shots of something that already exists (the Tech Demo which has been debunked hundreds upon thousands of times) people go apeshit again. Its pathetic. If they were going to make it, they wouldnt keep it a big secret from us and then at the end go, "MERRY FFVII-MAS!!!!"
They would flat out say, "Hey, we're remaking the game...for the PS3...so buy one already before the shelves underneath our barren systems that have still been sitting in the stores since the second wave of them hit rots through, causing them to fall and break and become about as useful as a Red-Ringed XBOX360. Flee my children. Spend much unnecessary money! GO!!"

As Soad already pointed out, those images bar the 3rd are merely taken straight from the tech-demo presented a couple of years back.
The third image is so simple I could make a replica of it providing I downloaded the FF7 font from a respective website or two, it proves nothing to be honest.
Rumors are called rumors for a reason. But should this shine true I would be quite happy for a visually updated FF7.

And yet again, as I said, why would they not put up the beginning of the original at the end of its DIRECT prequel? So they touched up the graphics a bit for a new release. It will still be pretty much the exact same thing, culminating with the man donned in the same exact suit the main character of the Prequel wore, jumping from a train, only to be revealed that its Cloud. Then we'll see some kind of "to be continued" and thatll be the end of it.
That DOESNT confirm s**t about a remake of the original. Its just a connector, so noone confuses the storyline thatll be brand new to the series playing Crisis Core as their first game in the series.

true enough that this does not confirm a remake however in my own judgment, now would be the moment of opportunity for square to announce a remastered edition of their original masterpiece; for the release of the crisis core prequel has the fans attention and anticipation leading them up to the events of final fantasy 7. it would be a shame if square didn't follow it up, final fantasy 7 is 10 years old and 10 year old game disks have a habit of getting scratched and unreadable! we NEED a remake!

Well I'll be damned, been a ********' long time since someone proved me wrong in this Guild. xd
I have not seen the additional image of Cloud that you posted, the original link only displayed three images that I could see. Still, I partly agree with both you and Soad. This does not prove that they will remake FF7 nor does it disprove it, it could merely be an attempt to make people look for the original FF7 or it's a little hint that there will be a remake.
Either way, I could care less.

Opinion: I've read that the director doesn't want to make a remake of a classic game but I think it was a/the producer that said that "as long as the fans one it, why not make it?"
so its somewhat of a argument going on. I can't remember who exactly said these things (sorry) but this is something I read in a magazine...but i could be wrong....

Theres no remake unless Square-Enix confirms it. They never lie to their fans, never.

A remake would be awesome for such a great game. Though i think i know what the screenshots meant. They are basically saying the story that is being learnt from Crisis Core is continued in Final Fantasy VII. Which would explain the screenshots, or atleast one set of screenshots. Maybe the other three screenshots are from the demo?? Though I'm probably wrong, for i havent seen the tech demo from '06 E3. But if they are, I want to say I heard someone say they did that to show the difference of how games will look on the ps3...

Mah? When did it become so bad to be happy, y'know? It's like Santa, just real happy about a guy who gives you nice stuff. It's fun to believe.
Sure, some hit it harder than others when they realized he wasn't real, but the time that they were still believing had to be some of the happiest memories they have, y'know?
I'm not really counting on a the remake. As everyone could agree, it would be awesome, but that doesn't mean you gotta be thinking of it all the time around, y'know? Y'know??
Just have the thought in your mind, go on believing, and if it does happen, hey, good for you. Cause they're already up to Six, right? Hell, Seven ain't too far down the road, even if they don't touch up on the graphics, they might at the very least make it a one or two disc set for the PS2 or PS3 with added bonus features at the very least.
I dunno, maybe I'm just saying this because I still believe that someone is going to scanalate new pages of this manga I'm reading, and even though everyone says "No one is going to take the job after so-and-so stopped, it's too hard! Not only having to translate Japanese, but Latin, too..." Mah.... There's always probability, and even if the odds are low, never fold out and give up. Just keep on going.

If this is real and for PS3 it may almost make me want to get one mad but just one game isn't much of a motivation to buy a whole system. Maybe rent.

Let's face it, they're not gonna make it because they don't like money. =D
