(I couldn't find a proper sub-forum for this, so feel free to move it if it's out of place.)

My best friend and I have been discussing the Nephilim a lot lately. She believes that there were some Nephilim put here for the purpose of good, and to fight evil. That at some point in this day and age (our generation, or sometime while we are still alive), Judgement will come and that the Nephilim that still remain will be shown to certain chosen people (people that are sensitive to the supernatural, people that can see demons, witches, etc.). (Personally, both of us have seen Nephilim, Angels, and Demons, so I believe that all of them are very real.)

Quote:

In the texts of Ugarit, there were 70 sons of God, each one being the special deity of a particular people from whom they were descended.

The full story can be found in the Book of Enoch as well as the Book of Jubilees, which claims that the Grigori (or watchers) that went to Earth to instruct humans in righteousness mated with human females and thusly created the Nephilim (although some stories say that it was humans that desired the flesh of Angels and forced themselves on Them). They were described as giants that devoured all of humankind's resources and finally began to consume humans.
Shemyazaz and the other leaders of the Grigori (Araqiel, Rameel, Kokabiel, Tamiel, Ramiel, Daniel, Chazaqiel, Baraqiel, Asael, Armaros, Batariel, Ananiel, Zaqiel, Shamsiel, Satariel, Turiel, Yomiel, and Sariel) were cast into Tartarus, to await their final judgement. Azazel, who brought on the Grigori's punishment, by teaching humans war, was bound by hand and foot by Raphael and cast into a hole in the desert and covered with rocks, and "On the day of the great judgement he shall be cast into the fire. [...] The whole earth has been corrupted through the works that were taught by Azazel: to him ascribe all sin."
Michael, Uriel, Raphael, and Gabriel were sent by God to judge the fallen angels.
The Nephilim are said to be supernatural beings, and the offspring of human women and Angels (whether forced or not). They were said to be the reason God brought down the flood, and destroyed them. In some texts the Nephilim were wiped out by the Flood, others, though, say that God only killed 90% of them, leaving the rest alive in order to lead humans astray from their faith (until Judgement day came).
Some believe Nephilim that out of the few handful that remained, some became good, some became neutral, and some became evil (given the fact that they are born of Angel and human, they would have the free will of a human, but still be a supernatural being). (Not to be confused with Neutral Angels. Not a popular belief in Western religion, Neutral Angels have a self-explanatory title. They were said to have remained Neutral during God's judgement of the Angels, and were neither good nor evil.)
Some say that Azazel is really Satan, but then again, some believe Samael descended from Heaven to rule over Hell, others say that Satan is only a faulty translation, because Satan translates to Arch Enemy in Latin. Still, others say that Satan and Lucifer are two different entities- Lucifer being the Angel that was cast down originally for wanting to "be as God" and Satan came after his fall (which is what I believe).

(All research done through personal connections, and the trusty old Wikipedia)

Do you believe in Nephilim?
If you do believe in Nephilim, what is your personal opinion on what Nephilim really are?
Have you ever seen any Nephilim?
Do you think that there are Nephilim residing on our planet, during this age (or ever at any point in our world's history)?
Do you believe in the Judgement of God, and when will it occur (I myself, don't believe in God)?
Anything else that I didn't list that I couldn't think of, because it's 2 AM and I can't sleep (Sorry. I'll most likely edit later to add anything I couldn't think of off the top of my head. I've been meaning to post this for a while, but I've never had the time.)

I've heard the legend of the Watchers and their children but I've never heard them called Nephilim, so this was really interesting to read. Iread the legend out of the Bible whiel bored at collage, I was looking for the Fall of Angels but found that instead.

I'll have to look up about Nephilims more before I deside what I think about them, but as for the Day of Judgement, I believe it's coming but I don't think that God has a right to judge us. I do believe in Him but He made us the way we are and we're not perfect all we can really do it fight to surivive in the world we've made for ourself.

Then again some time (a lot of the time) we could all really use some 'higher power' knocking us down a peg and reminding us we're just mortal.

I agree that Judgement Day is coming, and that God has no right to judge us. He has no right to do anything, in my mind, really. If He does exist. I had religion crammed down my throat when I was a child (Church every day, prayer before we started learning in school, Sunday School, religious classes, the works) but no one, it seems, ever stopped to bother what God's reasoning is. If He does exist, He seems like a very egotistical, megalomaniacal god, and I have no interest in believing in a deity that teaches me to worship only Him and none other, or else I've sinned, but if I believe in Him, He is kind and generous (if He feels like it); I've also no interest in a deity that keeps slaves to do His work for Him. That's always been my view on it anyway, the Bible was a great story and all, but it didn't make me believe in God. Quite contrary it made me doubt in His existence even more.

Hmm...I don't see what'd make angelic hybrids not plausible. If you believe in angels and demons, there's no reason not to accept hybridization with humans.

However, it seems like demon hybrids get more attention, namely the wizard Merlin (half-incubus) and the onmyouji Abe-no-Seimei (with kitsune blood).

Judgment? Psh, I doubt it. A magnetic field shift is generally indiscriminate. The current working date, however, is 12/21/2012, and there's another topic concerning that date.

Well, yes...I, myself, believe in hybrids, Nephilim included. I was curious to see how many other people believe in them, or have even heard of them. From research I've done, quite a surprising number of people have never heard of Nephilim OR the Book of Enoch (maybe that just has something to do with being in the South, though).
Although, demon hybrids, or demons themselves seem to be more popular overall. I think too many people...sort of humanize demons and make them seem just like really cool, bad-a**, attractive entities (thanks to popular media). If people were really exposed to true demonic entities, I think a lot of people would have mental break-downs; a lot of people can't even handle seeing a ghost, I don't want to think what it would do to them if they came across a demon. They enjoy disguising themselves as things you can trust, though, but I think seeing Ariel with red eyes splashing in your bathtub and asking you to join her would be just as frightening, if not more so, than seeing a demon in its true form (which, fortunately, I've never had the pleasure of seeing).

Heck, I'd barely heard of nephilim and had never heard of the Book of Enoch before you posted this.

As for demons, well...Depends on the type. Many people lump them together with vampires in the way you've described. I dare someone to make a balrog look sexy. DARE THEM.

Nephelim came before the Flood, so either we're all Nephelim or none of us are. It was an interesting phenomenon but you can no more talk to a Nephel than you can talk to His Imperial Majesty Norton I, or you talk to a Nephel every time you talk to your friend, neighbor, mother, father, sister brother, or any other human. They're all dead or everyone is one.

EDIT: I notice all this about the book of Enoch and blah de dah. They're mentioned in early Genesis, if only passingly. No need to look in the Apocrypha.

The sickest thing is that there are people who try. They will write and have written Balrog sex. Never underestimate the sick perversions of fanfic writers, my friend.

I would venture a guess that the current interest in nephilim would be spawned by a television show airing, with its plot and premise centering around nephilim and angels. I am not sure what its name is: I haven't bothered to watch it.

Nah, I'm not too big on watching TV, I haven't heard anything about any shows with Angels. If anything I watch the History Channel and some Law & Order. We have conversations about this stuff almost every day. We come up with theories or do research and such. We're weird nerds...

Dude! surprised

I had two awakenings in my life time appertaining to angels, both of them said I was Nephilim. I could see the "pures"(as the voice in my head calls them) rip my wings off and call me an impure lie, my last words to them were a soft grunted "v'had barah z'hel, mah varah zeh'l...ji" It means "I am not impure, I am whole", if you believe me. "GIANT" is a metaphor, Nephilim were normal sized, they simply had traits of both angel and man so they were considered better for weird reasons...

You can believe me or not... I sound crazy, I know I sound crazy, but... Personal evidence forces me to believe it.

Again, either you are a nephel, and it's nothing special because everyone is, or you aren't, and noone is. The nephelim were born BEFORE the Great Flood!
Although I suppose one or two of Noah's daughters-in-law may have been a Nephel, and the other(s) not, that still leaves 1/3 to 2/3 of the world being Nephelim.

Most likely, you are NOT a Nephel and you've just had screwy dreams. If you ARE a Nephel, you've got two to four billion other Nephelim out there, making you a lot less individual for it.

I'm confused. 1: the proper spelling is "Nephilim"
2: Why is it impossible for me to be NephIlim?

And just because the nephilim were born around noah's time doesn't mean they couldn't reincarnate.

My mistake, I was convinced it was an E. I'll look it up sometime just to be sure.

Nephilim is plural. "Why is it impossible for me to be white people?", Michael Jackson might have said, about as clearly as you just did.

I didn't say it was TOTALLY impossible, if I had my post would have been incoherent and contradictory...
If Noah, his wife and all his daughters-in-law were not Nephilim then none living today are Nephilim.
If Noah or his wife WERE a Nephilim then everyone alive today is a Nephil.
If one, two or all of Noah's daughters-in-law are Nephilim then the corresponding portion of human population probably is.

Nephil refers entirely to a person who is half-angel, half-human. It refers to the body. Not the soul. If you were a wolf in a past life it doesn't make you one now. The same with a Nephil.

I doubt that the Nephilim were allowed to reincarnate if God went to so much trouble to destroy them in the first place, but it may be possible.

However, I would feel sorry for anyone with those souls, because that would mean that they are doomed to oblivion at the end of the world instead of going to heaven or hell like the rest of us, according to Enoch.

God didn't go to much trouble JUST for the Nephilim. The world was turning into a hellhole. So He wiped it out. If any Nephilim were good enough people, they'd have gotten on the Ark.

I wouldn't put much stock in the book of Enoch - he was taken to heaven and never put back here, there's not much he could've written about.
