Blood.

It was faint, but the scent was definitely there.

The sweet looking mare stepped further, moving deeper into the forest as she allowed her nose to guide her. The smell was familiar, and her pink eyes narrowed, searching among the trees and brush for a familiar looking face. It came as a surprise to her to smell his blood, but it was there.

She kept her guard up... if anything had the strength to overpower Plague, Dia sure as hell didn't want to run into it herself.

His breathing was labored, but it remained strong. Aching muscles silently screamed at him, and the mutant let off a low groan as his heavy wings shifted, the tears and the bite marks strewn throughout, matted with his own blood and tissue.

He'd be damned if he left some scrawny b***h of a mutt get the best of him. Yet he knew he was far too weak to move on his own at this point, not without gaining a sensible amount of strength first. But the only way to gain strength was by rest and nourishment, and as he could barely move his wing alone, much less his body, finding nourishment was out of the question. Rest is what he needed.

Hollow eyes glanced around and his one good ear managed to note some rustling in the distance. At first, he assumed it was the pelted mare, returning to mock him as she finished him off. Soon enough, however, the strong scent of sugar filled his nostrils.

Damn it all to hell....

She came across a small clearing, and, sure enough, to the side lay a large mutant pressed against one of the tall trees. She remained there, motionless, for a few minutes, surveying the scene in front of her. It was more than just obvious that he had been injured, and injured badly at that, but she wasn't about to leap out and have her say in the situation... not when his conqueror might still be present and lurking about.

After waiting a few more minutes to reassure herself, the mare left her hiding spot and drew closer to the fallen monster. She made a point to approach from the rear, giving herself a better advantage. Not that she really needed it, from the looks of things. It was a wonder he wasn't dead, and it if hadn't been for his chest rising and falling.... she'd have assumed it from the start.

He growled, the noise low and guttural. He preferred the skinwalker to this.

"Get the hell away from me!" he snarled, forcing his wounded body up with the remainder of his strength, propping his weight against the tree. The open sores rubbed harshly against the tree's bark, and the mutant cringed at the pain coursing through his body once more. Why couldn't now, of all times, he be left in peace? He needed to recuperate, not stress himself out more now that the kalona mare had shown up. Of all the times, and all the places, why here and now?!

She snorted, amused. She could tell from the way he was straining he wasn't any threat to be concerned with. Hot pink hooves stepped closer, and she watched his side rise and fall with every breath. He was pathetic, and he deserved every infliction he had received from the faceless adversary.

"Well aren't you a sight for sore eyes?" she cooed, walking even closer to get a better look at him, "It looks like someone else got to you before I could. Pity.... I was going to have so much fun too!"

"I'm sure you were," he grunted, wincing as his untorn wing attempted to push up the rest of his body.
He was in such a weak state, and it infuriated and humiliated him to have one such as her see him like this. He was supposed to be strong, invincible.

In pushing up one of his legs, a small stone caught him off balance, and the progress he had made attempting to stand up was foiled. Falling, his body and skull hit the ground with a sickening thud, and he attempted to rise no more. Instead, he remained there, silently willing his watcher to leave him be.

Her forehead creased as she watched him stumble. She had expected herself to have laughed at the spectacle, but she hadn't. Instead, worry and concern swamped her thoughts. If even Plague couldn't have stopped whatever attacked him, what chance did she have of defending against such a thing?

"What have you done to yourself... you b*****d..." she muttered, shaking her head. It most definitely wasn't funny anymore.

Her words didn't go unnoticed by the one good ear Plague had left.

"Skinwalker," came the curt reply to leave his lips. The breed, though rare as it was, was notorious for the extent of damage the deceitful creatures were capable of. He shifted his head until he was able to stare up at her, his face solemn. Minutes passed with the two simply staring at one another, until he finally cleared his throat and rested his head back on the ground.

"Just... go away. Leave me be or kill me, just be done with it already, damn it."

She remained silent, her frown and stare unwavering. Dia had never witnessed Plague in this situation before... in fact, never anything even close to this kind of situation! After all the years they had been together, it had resolved to this? That he'd die from wounds from another, and she wasn't even around to SEE the beast that harmed him?

No, she wouldn't let him die, not like this. As prideful as she was, she still felt a sense of obligation towards him, and she refused to let him pass like this, especially if it wasn't by her own doing. She didn't love him, she was certain of that, but she had come to discover over the past couple months that she selfishly depended on him. There had been no one else to bicker with, to scowl at, to argue with. No one to push the blame on, to harass, to scream at for taking her food. No, she was alone, and it was a miserable feeling.

Letting out an exasperated sigh, she shook her head and buckled her knees underneath her, resting on the ground beside him. She would ensure he got the proper care he needed to revive himself and strengthen those wounds and bones. Would she remain by his side like she had so many years previous? She didn't know, and would face that concern once it was time to decide. But for now, she sat, and kept an eye on the clearing around them as he rested against the tree.

He remained silent as he watched her from the corner of his eye. She seemed in debate with herself over what to do, but silently took her place by his side, like she had so many nights for so many years. Why she chose to stay was beyond him, but he didn't question her. If anything he didn't want to hear the answer. Thus, he remained quiet, and watched the ivory mare settle herself against the ground and between him and the rest of the world.

She was like a puppy, following him around all the time. He would have smirked at the imagery, had it not been painful to move even his jaw muscles at this point. Though... thinking back on it now, she had no reason to stay behind. It was apparent that she had done well out on her own in the world without him. So why return here, why remain here? The questions confused him and he closed his eyes, tired from thinking, tired from the pain. He would gain his strength back, then question her for her strange female logic. But now it was time to rest, and rest he would.

From a distance, gray eyes watched on at the scene that had unfolded in front of her. She was speechless, and didn't know exactly what to think. For a pair that supposedly hated each others' entrails, they seemed to be getting along rather chummy with one another. What was she supposed to make of this? Was it a fluke? Was he going to lash out and rip out her throat at any second?

She hated her... with every moment she continued to watch her, she hated her even more. The anger and fury burned inside of her. How dare she attempt to take him away! After all she did to him, and he still allowed her to remain in his presence?

Granted, she hadn't heard what was said between the two, being so far away as to not reveal her hiding spot. The foolish mare hadn't been as quiet as her... no, she hadn't even seen her watching her, and she had been here this whole time! So much for the hunter she was supposed to be, what a laugh!

Suppressing the low growl from leaving her throat, she turned around and hastily made her way out of the forest, quick and silent. There were others she would have to tell... to reveal this atrocity she had discovered among the forest trees. This was not good... this wasn't good at ALL.
