My parents have always said you can never start preparing for something too early. So, I'm trying to find three more songs to finish off my senior recital. Of the following songs (if you've heard them) which ones do I sing?
I need two upbeat songs. I have: Lost in The Wilderness from "Children of Eden" Corner of the Sky from "Pippin" Tschaikowsky from "Lady in the Dark" Not While I'm Around from "Sweeney Todd" Luck Be A Lady from "Guys 'n Dolls" The Day The Sun Stood Still from "The Civil War"
I need one more slower song. I have: Bring Him Home from "Les Miserables" On The Street Where You Live from "My Fair Lady" If I Can't Love Her from "Beauty & The Beast" A World Without You from "Children of Eden" Santa Fe from "Newsies" Close Every Door from "Joseph...Dreamcoat" My Defenses are Down from "Annie Get Your Gun" The Impossible Dream from "The Man of La Mancha" Beauty School Dropout from "Grease" More I Cannot Wish You from "Guys 'n Dolls"
The only one I KNOW I'm doing is For Good from "Wicked." What do you think?

Upbeat: Corner of the Sky from "Pippin" The Day The Sun Stood Still from "The Civil War"
Slower: If I Can't Love Her from "Beauty & The Beast" OR Close Every Door from "Joseph...Dreamcoat" ' (Two good songs I can't pick between myself)

Not While I'm Around from "Sweeney Todd" I always saw as a ballad and My Defenses are Down from "Annie Get Your Gun" I always saw as an upbeat. I guess I'm kooky like that.
Umm...I don't really know your range. But you lack a Sondheim Ballad. Marry Me A Little, Being Alive, and Johanna are all great ballads by Sondheim.
Ooh, Tell my Father from Civil war is a great ballad. Words he Doesn't Say from Romance, Romance is my favorite male ballad.
As for an uptempo...Seven Deadly Virtues from Camelot, Guido's Song from Nine, What am I Doin' from Closer Than Ever, Buddy's Blues from Follies...

You could be right about those two, but Sondheim wrote Not While I'm Around. I've already done Tell My Father for my junior recital, so that wouldn't quite work.

I suppose I would choose "Luck Be A Lady" from "Guys 'n Dolls", but ultimately you should go with whatever you can sing the heck out of. 3nodding

I was just saying that if you put not while I'm around in your uptempo list then you would have no sondheim in the ballads. And yeah...isn't tell my father a really nice song? But look into the songs I named if you don't know them. Marry me a Little would show off your range.

In all honesty, I'd really like to try to get at least one from my favorite musical: Children of Eden. Here's what I can do:
Lost in the Wilderness A World Without You
Here's what I wish I could do:
The Spark Of Creation Children of Eden Ain't It Good?
They've all been written for solos. So.......do I take the leap over to cross-gender material or stick with the guys parts?

in general, i would definitely choose the more obscure stuff in your repertoire.
for an upbeat song, lost in the wilderness is definitely one of the more impressive songs with a higher demand in range.
(by the way, you rock for knowing stuff from the civil war and lady in the dark!!!) xd
as far as your ballads go...i think it really depends on if you want to pull off the acting in them or show your range...bring him home, for example, is really quite good for both, but it's all in falsetto; i'm not sure if you want to go for something more belty.
that said, i'd say go for if i can't love her (not obscure, but still nice), and not while i'm around (i SWEAR it's a ballad).

"Bring Him Home" is supposed to be in falsetto?

Well, I thank you all for your input and I've decided on three of the four pieces.
Lost in The Wilderness--Children of Eden If I Can't Love Her--Beauty & The Beast ??????????????????????????????????????? For Good--Wicked
The one left open is for one of the following four songs:
Tschaikowsky--Lady in the Dark Corner of the Sky--Pippin Santa Fe--Newsies Bring Him Home--Les Miserables
