The Butterfly house at Macy's manor was an fine example of the Unigon's personal taste and habit, and unquestionably also, of his wealth. The carefuly maintained hothouse was alive with exotic butterflys of every color and variety, some of which may have never encountered each other in any other location.
For Bat King it was a fine representation of everything that he, himself, was not. Still wearing the suit that he had worn to Macy's grand ball, but then, he'd not yet left to change back into his more accustomed attire, he'd spent much of the ball hiding here in the humidity and heat, talking to Harlequin.
It was also, amidst all these delicate creatures and their coocoons, that he'd shared with Harlequin one of the secrets about himself that he considered the most vile.
For him, it gnawed at him like the fairy tale toad gnawing at the roots of a tree. It always had. He'd grown up hearing nothing but how god awful it was, how wrong it was. He'd certainly never been able to ask the other side of his family for a rebutal.
These days you encountered one of two reactions, people seemed to find it curiously facinating, in a manner he regarded as being rather sideshow, or to hate it has they had in days gone by.
Harlequin did neither. He wasn't even sure what to make of that fact. It boggled the mind. He stood shaking his head faintly, his expression open as a book as he tried to digest that such a thing could make no difference in how Harlequin looked at him.

Harlequin kept his eyes fixed on his fraind, his lips slowly lifting in a small smile as he took a couple of steps closer to the strange man he was actually finding to be a rather dear friend now... it was a little wrong footing seeing this much quieter side to the brash individual, but it was nice in a strange way as well.
He patted the coarse man on the arm,
"Dont let this seemingly unexpected reaction worry you my friend." He stated, retracting his hand and letting it flop down by his side again.
"I know enough myself about people looking on you in belittling ways for what you are.." He spread his arms, gesturing at his own unusual attire.
"My obvious 'differences' can hardly be missed.. so.." he shrugged..
"Do unto others as you would have done..? A little preachy I suppose but I feel it to be appropriate.. you can llive in hope that one day if you're nice to people somone will be nice to you in return." he shook his head, chuckling quietly,
"You are fully within your rights to tell me to silence my nonsense.. you know..?" he said with a smile.
"I do tend to talk rather a lot, and little of it has much in the way meaning to it.." he lifted a hand and brushed his blonde hair away from his face again.
The fool decided to stay quiet for a moment, feeling that any more of his inane babbling might just send his apparently shocked friend over the edge a little.

"Hah" He gave a short, stark laugh at his own reaction, running his fingers through his already re-toustled hair. "Aint that. Y' get so used t' people reactin' one way or t'uther if the figure it out then y dunno what t' do if they dun react at all." He admitted. "Y' know what I mean?" He actually had no idea if his statement made any sence at all. It was like being a rattlesnake in the middle of camp.

Harlequin smiled slightly,
"What you say is quite true." He stated with a nod,
"People do tend to fall into fascination or disguest rather more easilly than they do understanding.. when understanding and acceptance are usually the two easiest paths to take.. they save so much trouble..." he tugged at his poncho for a moment, it was very warm in this humid glass house.. it was actually slightly uncomfortable.
"Well, I doubt there is much in the world that would make me think of you poorly my friend, because I am almost certain that nigh on every ill thought people have leveled at you, will have had a match of some sort leveled at me over the years.." he grinned, a strangely happy smile for one talking about being mocked.
"You can really judge a fellows intelligence by the style of insult he comes out with, some are rather impressive, I must say!"

"Can ya? Guess that sorta puts me outa' the runnin then. I ain't got some a the variety some over edj'cated city slicker's got." He chuckled softly.
Mocked? He'd mocked himself on enough occasions, no more proud of his bloodlines than his father had wound up being. Certainly he'd gotten the knack for hiding it.

Harlequin nodded,
"You can, well, some people can.. but I suppose it takes a certain kind of mind really.." he paused,
"I think you've a purer mind if you cant however, because it means you've been through life with less deception than most." he placed a hand on his own hip, leaning it out slightly as he thought.
"And education isn't all that important if you can learn form life my friend!" He stated with a smile, leaning forward slightly in a rather odd moment, his feet staying still where they were. With a chuckle he leant back upright again, his eyes flickingto follow yet another ghosting airbourne shape..
"I like you better than any city slicker I've yet had the chance to meet my friend.. be assured of that."

"If you think I got a pure mind, boy you got the wrong man." He laughed "THank you though. Guess if I had t' think about it, you'd probably be the first one I'd want at my back, if I needed someone..."
He turned to watch the same butterfly as Harlequin, noting it wasn't half as colorful as the mans get up. "You gonna cook in that like a potato in the coals."

"I already am!" Harlequin said with a laugh,
"I was getting used to it, but now, phew! Its a little like sitting by a fire in your winter woolies!" He smiled at Bat,
"I think, as long as it doesnt offend you I think I'll remove a layer.." he chuckled and set his bag down on the ground and shifted his arms to tug the poncho up over his head, he wore a more simple outfit under neath, much more simple, just a black top that hugged round his arms to just below the elbows and fitted well around his ever so slightly curved hips and stomach. With a smile he let the poncho tumble down to the floor with a contented sight,
"Dear god thats better.." he stated with a happy smile, blonde hair flopping against surprisingly narrow shoulders.
"Who'd have thought a sheet of fabric could retain so much heat!"

"Yup that'd about do it." Bat agreed, tugging at the collar of his own shirt in sympathy to the heat. "Damn it's hot in here." Not willing to shed layers particularly in the chances of being showered by more of Macy's gleefuly given mockery, he was a bit overheated himself, and his larger frame was slower to give up heat.

"You should at leats take off your goat.. it is a little akin to being sat in a sauna here.." the fool said with a bright smile once more,
"And I do rather fancy that unless you give in and remove at least somthing, when you step outside the air, though it will at first be pleasently cool will probably turn quite severly chill.." he nodded, his blonde hair flicking slighty as he did,
"The cold will not be so easy to hid from as the heat either.." he chuckled,
"You neednt worry, form what I can gather your tormentor has probably fled by now, I saw a merry stream of people heading for the harbour a while back, if the PIrate King, as I suspect, was among them, then the many horned lover of his is likely to have gone as well, wouldnt you say..?" he quirked an eyebrow curiously as he eyed Bat,
"And you need fear no teasing from me, though you should know that by now my friend.."
