The name alone should clue you into the madness this series is. It's got a lot of comedy, but mostly focuses in the P.I. Ranma Hinamatsuri, and his partner Rella "Cindy" Shirayuki.
(Before you go "OMG he's named just like Ranma Saotome, ripoff!" I'll tell you that Cinderella Boy is, as a manga, several years older than Ranma 1/2. So if anything, Takahashi ripped the name and idea off this one, but I wouldn't bet on that either.)
Anyway, the two are investigating a crime, but end up being chased by the criminals involved through the city, until a bad turn of their car brings their apparent death. The criminals don't bother checking the crash (they had, after all, fell off an unfinished bridge,) but someone else finds them alive...
Ranma wakes up the next day quite aware of the crash, but can't find Rella anywhere. His first thoughts are, she's dead. Fate brings the same criminals from the night before to cross Ranma's path once more, and another chase ensues. The chase ends at midnight, with Ranma falling off a tall building... but as the clock signals midnight, something happens, and it's Rella who miraclously saves her life as she falls into a pool. Wet and confused, Rella starts her own investigation once she realizes Ranma isn't around, unaware of the fact Ranma is, in a way, still there.
As the series advances, both realize what's happening: They're 'sharing' a body, and when midnight comes, they switch around, so Rella and Ranma have to search for the cause of their apparent curse, while investigating other cases to pay their bills and keep their 'normal' lives going.
Though, admittedly, their curse can sometimes become a blessing. And way too often, their change comes at the worst possible time.
The funniest parts were always the "dialogues" the characters had with each other (through a recorded message/video they saw when they 'woke up.') sometimes, it seemed like they knew what the other would answer while they left their messages.
