It was a bright, sunny day, and the sun was routinely gazing upon the snow white-pelted underbelly of a particularly small female out near a patch of grass that slowly transitioned into sand that led way to the shore. The distant music of the ocean calmed whatever amount of energy the female had stored the previous day, though she did not need much to exert effort into her current goal, which was to keep her back away from the sun's vision. Due to her back being more so darker than the rest of her body, it also unfortunately attracted more of the sun's rays. It was a pity, she thought, for she often enjoyed being thought of as an overgrown predator she took after as it threw unwanted strangers away.
She shifted her weight, the force of gravity trying to tug at her side to come down. But she resisted and let out a soft sigh that told that she was very much at ease, knowing that the place she was currently resting in was scarcely traveled. The lack of tracks and out of place rubble in the area told her so.
Though she could do with just a little bit of company right now, it was probably for the best, as she looked quite dead and awful with her pale white underside sticking out to the skies. Well, maybe she'd go back home and get someone to come out with her here, later. But now was the time to stay still without movement. Ah, how the sun's warmth coaxed beings into inertia-inspired submission.

Hunska ambled along the path, stopping here and there to check out the new things he came across. The little usdia loved exploring - and he had never taken this particular path before! His short tail twitched happily from side to side, the stripes in it shifting as it moved.
"Starflower, grey rock, beetle," he said to himself as he walked. Each thing was identified as he passed it.
As the path curved towards the shore he could hear the waves and seagulls. Another turn of the path and he could see the ocean before him. This was new!
He happily trotted along the sand's edge, continuing his singsong of identification.
"Sand crab, seashell, tall grass, dead horse. Wait a minute, dead horse?" his litany was broken off my the sight of another usdia lying still on the ground, all four hooves in the air. He approached at a walk, stretching his head out as he tried to catch a scent. Was it really dead? Unfortunately the wind was blowing from the sea and he could not smell anything but its salty tang.
"Umm... excuse me," he said when he was a pace away. "But are you dead? If you aren't then I am sorry to bother you, but if you are then I need to know so I can get help of some sort. Though if you are dead then I am not sure what help I can get." His voice trailed off as he confused even himself.

There was a momentary pause before movement came from the female usdia. She had been so immersed in her sun-coated daydream that she had hardly noticed the little traveler's approach.
Her eyes opened as she stirred, and she did not know whether to be amused or irritated that something had come along to see her in such a disheveled state. But she supposed it was okay, for the stranger did not seem thoroughly disturbed at all by her position. Immediately, she rolled over to get on her hooves, standing up straight before the male usdia--she could discern now, by looking at him--could further inquire.
"More alive than you would ever know," she said with the added effect of a sly laugh at the end. "Thanks for the offer, though, dear."
She lowered her head and came ever so closer to the stranger as if to tell a secret, "But I must say, you needn't pretend I'm dead to get my attention. If you came here seeking me, I'm all yours." She grinned playfully and then turned her back on him, making sure her hair flew gracefully to the other side of her head during the turn. She began a walk towards the actual shore of the ocean, assuming the stranger would follow her. After all, wasn't he here for her?
"What was your name, by the by?"

Hunska gave a sigh of relief when the not-dead horse rolled over and began to talk to him. It would have been a most disconcerting thing to have to deal with after all!
"My name is Hunska," he replied politely. "And I didn't come looking for you exactly," He obediantly followed her, his tail swishing behind him. "I had never been down this path and thought it would be nice to see where it might lead me. I do enjoy new things and new places and new adventures!"
As he followed he admired the mare before him. Her coat was the most amazing shadings of grey and her tail was much longer than his own.
"You are new to me, too. Just like this path is. May I ask you your name?"

"Huuuuunska," she repeated playfully, heedless of whether it would annoy the other usdia to have his name drawled out in such a manner, "That's kind of an interesting name, isn't it? Does it mean anything?" She knew a lot of names from others, but none had matched the unique and curious sounds of his, so it was a truthful question.
The small female remained ignorant of Hunska's last reply, and whether it was because she believed he was lying, or she knew she herself had been exaggerating, was subjective. Then again, he wouldn't have came upon her in such an isolated place if he hadn't been looking for her, and he obviously wouldn't have taken the time to call on her if he did not have any desires for contact. She further assured herself that the stranger had been seeking her by his quick obedience to her steps.
She assessed Hunska's comment, and hesitated for a brief moment, slightly shocked at his statements. "Never been here?" she asked slowly, in disbelief, "How can someone... How have you never seen the ocean?" She had been making her way towards the sand, completely unaware that the other had never trodden upon it before. It was one of the places she admired, and loved to bask in under the sun, providing that the sun wasn't too radiating, that is.
"You're lying," she concluded after a few seconds of thought, though not even taking a minute to glance back at Hunska with her affirmation. "I mean, I've never seen you here, but then... I do tend to have my eyes closed sometimes," she admitted, "And I'm Tozi. Cute, right?" she laughed as she childishly kicked a slight amount of the now-apparent sand towards Hunska's hooves with her back legs.

His ear's twitched at the way she said his name. That was also something new, and the Spirits knew that he was one usdia who enjoyed new things! "My name means 'leggings' in one of the human tongues. It's because of my dark markings, I suppose. I like your name, does it also have a meaning?"
As he talked he follwed her onto the sand - another new experience! "This is different than the sand at the river!" he exclaimed as he walked onto the shifting stiff. "It tickles like the river sand," he continued as her kick send the dry stuff trickling down his legs. "But it is a lot deeper!" and he highstepped a bit to avoid sinking into a deeper patch. He never gave a thought to how comical he must have looked as he tried to avoid the softer spots in the sands.
"I have seen the ocean from the cliffside path, but I have never come this close to it before. I lived in the mountain foothills before I wandered here. My curiosity led me away from my home herd and I may never go back! And all the new places and things here... just amazing really. Places of such beauty as I never saw back home - and amazing soquili to meet as well! "

"Leggings? That's a bit awful weird, isn't it? Then again, your legs are a strange darker than the rest of you... Except your face! Why didn't they just call you something like Face Boy? I think I rather have people talk about my face than my legs..." Tozi took the time to stare down at her own legs while walking, studying them as if she was looking at her limbs in a whole new light. "And oh..."
She thought about her own name as Hunska asked; it wasn't often that the question arose, but she probably knew what it meant in the recesses of her mind... For now, it was a mystery to both of them. "Maybe another day..." she said faintly to him, a tad bit put off that she couldn't quite remember what meaning her own name held. "I'll tell you another day!"
It took a while for Tozi to start noticing Hunska's awkward steps through the sand; she herself was so used to it that she had developed a more poised and graceful, steady walk through the beach. She had finally turned back when she felt the sands beneath her keep shifting behind her as if something had been sucking it in, but it was merely the depressions Hunska kept making. She suppressed a giggle and now realized what the other usdia had been yelling about behind her. "Familiar with the river sand too, eh?" she said slowly, wondering if he too, lived near the river like herself. But if he did, why wouldn't she have seen him at some point?
But her question was soon answered by his next words, and she replied with a curious "Ahh" to all of his speech. He seemed like such a young boy, new to the world before him. Exploration was something Tozi wouldn't mind, providing it didn't cut into her lazy nap times. "Never go back home?" she asked, and laughed humorously, "What a kid you are! Well, I know you're so lucky to have met me, namely, the most amazing usdia of all... you know? Good thing I'm not sore to look at, either!"
Tozi laughed again and began making her pace quicken, feeling the tension of the ocean waves tugging at her hooves. The crash of the waves was now distinct, though not overpowering, and she checked on Hunska to make sure he was close behind. "And well, if you've never seen the ocean, you do sourly need to be educated!"

The dark bay thought on her words as he followed her along, now trying to step more closely in her tracks as she seemed to be having less difficulty in the shifting stuff than he did. A kid? Well, maybe he did come across as younger than his years. Spirits knew he was teased about it often enough in his home herd. It was all his questionings he supposed. He couldn't help it though. There was just so much out there, so many things he didn't know! And as for never going back there, well... home was where you were as far as he was concerned. He might one day go back to see his family, but then again they might one day come here to see him!
"You are quite striking," he amiably said to her as he caught up. The low roaring of the ocean caught his attention and his ears swiveled as he tried to place the sound. "Another day with you would be very nice, maybe I could show you something you have never seen!" he continued, a little surprised at his own boldness.

Nodding along in agreement to Hunska's compliment, which of course Tozi expected, she soon found her nods following to the beat of the rhythmic ocean waves. Before she could respond to his latter sentiment, the two had reached the shores that were drenched in the ocean water itself, and Tozi could feel a sudden rush of ocean spray tickle at her hooves.
She looked back at Hunska and smiled brightly, feeling the yellow warmth of the sun hitting her pelt perfectly, in union with the cool moisture passing through the ground. This would be a good day.
"You're brash, meeting someone and not soon after saying you'd wanna meet again..." Tozi flashed a coy smile at the other usdia and hid a giggle as she turned towards the ocean water, running into the sand so that there was a few inches of water above her legs. "Why don't you show me something I've never seen now!"
With that last remark, she stomped around the waters with her hooves, kicking once towards Hunska in a manner that meant to soak his "leggings" up a little, for what would the day be without a little fun with "something new"?
