Okay, so I've gotta dissect words for biology class (sounds dumb but not really) and there's one word I haven't stumbled upon in ages.

Pneumonoultramicroscopicsillicovolcanoconiosis.

No joke, it's a real word. The longest in the dictionary, last time I checked.

So.
What's a random/weird word that you came across? Or just a favorite word. Or even a word that makes no sense.

One of my favorite words:

Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia

It means a fear of long words. Why a long word for a fear of long words? I have no clue. It's ironic, though.

I was thinking the exact same thing! xD
I knew it started with Hippo- but that's about it.

Erm, actually, you added a letter. I'll spell it for you...

p.n.e.u.m.o.n.o.u.l.t.r.a.m.i.c.r.o.s.c.o.p.i.c.s.i.l.i.c.o.v.o.l.c.a.n.o.c.o.n.i.o.s.i.s.

It's a lung condition.

And, yes, I'm pedantic. Lovely word. It means I always have to be right.

Actually I think Pneumonoultramicroscopicsillicovolcanoconiosis isn't technically called the longest word in english because it originated as a hoax... sort of. Antidisestablishmentarianism is the official longest word, I think.

But you know what word I like? 'jube'.

The word done defies the laws of grammar. If you think about it, it should be said like in the word "condone".

Oh, the English language is full of such things.
Have you ever seen the cartoon done by Theodore Geisel (Dr. Seuss) on such a word play? He illustrated the following:

"The tough coughs as he ploughs the dough."

It was used as the cover & title of a collection of his early works done back in the late '80's.

Nope, never even heard of it.

My mother has just been reading this thread over my shoulder and she says to put that the longest word in the English language is SMILES. Why? Because there's a mile in between the first and last letters.

Don't blame me, blame her! She says the old ones are always the best! sweatdrop

razz So ha.

And now that I've seen a few more epis of DW, I can officially say that I like the word timey-wimey. xd

Oh yes, and I was watching BBCA's horribly cut version of 'School Reunion' episode and loved this quote/word:
Quote:
"Correctomundo!
*rapidly* A word which I have never before used and hopefully never will again."

"Physics!"
