i trained so hard that i threw up. this is the first time in the 3years iv been doing kendo that i actually did. iv come close before and felt horrible afterwards because your bodies wants to but its just not. though i felt much better after throwing up. also i was at the head of the line so i had to do all prep stuff[moksoon, bow to shomen etc] and wait untill sensei had stopped talking and released us to go. i was coughing and trying so hard to hold on the whole time hoping that id make it outside in time-which i did surprised phewf for that.

anyone got any stories to share?
about extremely tough trainings?

we had to train this new exercise where we had to do a set number of strikes per person [something similar to what i call king of the mat where you stay in for as many matches until you beat everyone in the circle] except you HAD to do every person in the circle [which im obviously not fit enough to do yet] and yea my body could barely take it. everyone else had to do it so im not complaining.

^^so i couldn't get out of it even though i was at my limit[also im supposed to be the leader of my club as the next highest[to sensei] grade in the dojo, so im meant to set an example of determination and all that]

one of my kendo role models said that if you feel sick[like your going to throw up] you've trained hard. and iv respected that, to others they may think either thats crazy or stupid but i think its the way to getting stronger.

You mean you've never trained so hard you've thrown up or wanted to?
Lol.. Cant be trying hard enough then...
I know some teachers that keep a bucket in the corner specifically for that...
Seriously, to know your limits as you put it, you have to push them to failure.
Sounds like choco did, so much respect to her

u can know ur limits without having to throw up. That is excess to the point of stupidity in my view. If you are throwing up then what other damage are u likely to be doing to your body? And how does this aid in improving technique?

If you can still show good technique when every muscle in your body is shaking from fatigue, you know you've got good form.
I'd go so far as to say that it isn't a good class unless you do feel like you want to throw up. Even the bullshit tkd classes I've attended occasionally had beasting sessions where everyone was pushed to their absolute limits.
If you've never pushed yourself to you limits and thru them, you will not know what your limits are and you will never improve on them.
Damage? Only damage would be to your pride, as everyone laughes at your misfortune.
As long as you maintain good hydration, no harm will come to you from it.

I agree that if you can show good technique when exhausted then you know you have good form, but pushing yourself to the point that you throw up for the sake of pushing yourself seems pointless to me. There are other ways to push and improve on your limits, you do not have to break them by huge amounts every time. As for damage, its well known that forcing yourself to throw up will cause damage to your teeth, as when you throw up naturally chemicals are released which will protect them which are not released when it is forced (its why bulemics often have bad teeth as well). Plus you're more at risk for issues from electrolite imbalances

Sorry if my points seem somewhat shallow and poorly developed, but its late and my eyes and hip hurts and they make me cranky >.< i may edit this tomorrow when i come back and see that it makes no snese

Reaching that level is the best way to get conditioned

I personally think you're doing something wrong outside of training - especially diet.

I've never reached the point of vomiting or having to vomit, but I've reached the point where your throat gets raw and tastes bloody.

it's only bad for your teeth if you do it repeatedly and often. [like i mentioned this is the first time iv crossed the point of throwing up] see with bulimics they do its often enough that their teeth are constantly being in contact with stomach acid and eventually starts to rot.

though i can kinda see your point iconised ghost.

@sea fighters: diet? thats a thought but as i said this is the first time for me to throw up [instead of feeling like i might] so not sure. but i guess that is something to take into consideration

I trained hard one day, right after eating belgian fries and 2 cheeseburgers.

Combat Wrestling for 2 hours, 5 minutes after I ate that, then drinking alot of water after class caused me to vomit. Beyond that, I've never vomitted.

As Krusha said (aka Tatsuya)

He ate fries and 2 cheeseburgers and vomited.

Think about what you ate the day you threw up. Odds are, it might have been something greasy. Or you ate it too soon before training.

we do alot of jumping and moving so i know never to eat right before training. since mostly my trainings are at 6 i don't eat after 4.30. but thats just an example of how much time before hand before i limit myself to eating. even when im starving i don't eat anything and just go to training and enjoy dinner when i get home[though i have to be patient and cook it first gonk

i've never thrown up after training, felt like i wanted to a couple of times, but usually after a specially long hard session, and that's more dehydration than anything else
at a course last month i bowed off and my nose started bleeding that was after a 2 hour session with 200+ people on the mat, fast paced class and the temp outside was 46 C, the dojo we were using had aircon, but it was broken, so i think the conditions got me as much as training did.
didn't take chances after that though, half a bottle of electrolyte mix before thraining, the other half after, 2 cups of "Flo's secret mix" and a bottle of water and i was fine
it's all about looking after your body

I knocked down a dude last night in sparring

Cross counter. And then I felt it on my knuckles, so I backed up.

Then he backed up too, stooped over and made a face like " gonk "

And took a knee
