Well, this discussion began with one of my friends just now because he was saying lots of stupid things and needed to occupy him with a topic. D= Things got interesting from there though, seeing how there's so many different martial arts and other fighting styles out there. This was also inspired from Rumble Fighter.. >_> But.. yeah.

This thread is to discuss about marital arts styles, how effective they are and how they would do when pinned up against another martial artist of another style, and any other interesting discussions that can be made from comparing numbers of different fighting styles.

Could be based on video games, movies, or in real life, realistic situations.

My favorite moves are techniques that involve submission as in locking the foe.

So something like wrestling? o_o Or are there others that I don't know about that specializes in submission moves? I wouldn't be surprised if there are others.. I'm personally fond of Aikido, a defensive art which requires knowledge of human anatomy and bone structures to pull off. o_o Against people that are attacking you, like those that are throwing a punch or kick against you, a master Aikido user could grab their arm or leg and twist and bend in a way that would result in the attacker being on the ground, defenseless.

Too bad Rumble Fighter doesn't have Aikido.. nor would it be good in Rumble Fighter anyway. XD Rumble Fighter is going to get Pro Wrestling though later on, which is a pretty cool style because you can grab people regardless of which way they're facing in the game. o_o All other styles can only grab and throw the person if they're facing you.

Judo is about submissions...

I took karate for a few years. That was good, though I don't think I'd use much of it in an actual fight since the way I react to attacks are much different then the rigid postures you use in that...

Tai Kwon Do is bogus and one of the worst martial arts out there. It's good to get you in shape, but it's not practical against any other Martial Art. Gum Do, on the other hand, I believe is the Korean style of kicking, and is amazing. It was originally developed for people to kick mounted cavalry... I would assume the mongols.

That might not be Gum Do though. I may have the name mistaken.

Kung Fu is pretty neat. All the different styles I mean. When I was a councilor at a summer camp one of the other councilors taught me some Kung Fu. I managed to complete the Northern Lights, Southern Fist form... Or something like that. It was really neat. It started off with a Crane form that changed into a Tiger on the next movement. The rest of the first part is basically blocking and hammering. The second part of the form starts with 2 movements of Dragon, which becomes Dragon's Breath, followed by a hammer-like action to each side (it's hard to describe) which moves into a panther movement double-punch like thing, which becomes Mantis into Eagle... And I forget the rest. I know it ends up with being a Tiger, then Crane again. It was so neat.

If you want to see how martial arts go up against each other... Play Dead or Alive! razz

I'm not sure what's the style either, but I do know a character that uses it well. Ryomou Shimei from Ikki Tousen has some sweet murdersome yet seductive submissions.

Aikido... I see that alot of cliche kung fu flicks xd

Dang Cranky.. You know quite alot.

Oh, pfft. @_@ I forgot about Judo. That was the second martial art that I was interested in..

I think I've heard of another martial art that was originally made to kick people off horses as well.. Was it Muay Thai? D= I'm not sure how Muay Thai was made for that though..

o_o' And.. wow. Kung Fu is a deception style, so naturally with all those different movements and what not, it's very confusing for the person who's fighting against a Kung Fu fighter..

Dead or Alive sure is fun.. XD I like the series, but I don't own any of the games.. ._.;

From the moves I've seen (Manga and Anime) she uses Judo and Karate... And I mean, plain ol' American Style Karate. Which... Also happens to teach Judo mixed in every day classes.

Muay Thai is vicious Kick Boxing. If you watch either The Protector or... Uhhh... WTF... That other Tony Jaa movie, you'll see movietized Muay Thai in action. That's basically all the highlights of the style. It's probably, and I say this with conviction, one of the best 1v1 martial arts out there. I don't think it would be as good as Tony Jaa makes it look against gangs of people... And I don't think it would be practical for unhorsing people, because most of it revolves around knees and elbows more than just kicking.

The one I really really wanted to get into was Kendo. I know it's not practical in terms of self-defense in this day and age... But it looks like such an amazing Martial Art to bring balance into your life. Same with Tai Chi... My dad found a Tai Chi place near here, and we were supposed to go, but he never got me the details :'(

So.. Anyone know anything about Kobudo? o_o I saw a place on my way to my college that teaches Kobudo apparently, and.. I also have the Kobudo fighting style in Rumble Fighter. XD In fact, it was the first fighting style I bought since it was a class specific style for Elementalists. o_o' And it's pretty good since you can juggle people with this fighting style in the game.. But quite obviously you can't juggle people IRL like you do in video games, so.. what are the strong points of Kobudo, and.. stuff? o_o From the way it sounds, assuming that it's a style with a Japanese origin, it revolves around using the fist.. ? o_o; LoL.

Cool. It looks like that requires some deceptive movements and balance.

I personally like Shouri-Ryu Kenpo cuz i'm small, and quick sharp attacks are good for me. i don't really like getting to grounded cuz then its hard for me to run around. tho i don't think i would do to well against someone really strong, but when all else fails, i have gotten permission to bite. twisted

Baguazhang was released on Rumble Fighter recently. o_o And seems like it's very combo heavy. I believe it's this fighting style on Rumble Fighter.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=tRm0sW2bBEI

On top of that, it's the first scroll where you use a counter ( Guard and Kick ) to do a different combo string in the North American Rumble Fighter. o_o With PP(Counter), you can do a juggle launcher, which can set you up to do.. a total of possibly 12 hits? According to what people have said..

Also, this is the type of style that Neji and Hinata Hyuuga uses in Naruto, and.. well, I'm sure it has some popularity because of that there as well. o_o I'm interested more for the combo aspect and the style.. Juggling with such a combo heavy style is also quite interesting..
