A sliver of sun peaked over the horizon and cast beautiful, but eerie, red and orange shadows across the land. Jini couldn't remember the last time she'd gotten up so early and, rather than get up and do something constructive, the young lioness lazed in the grass. She'd had a decent amount of sleep on a full stomach. There was no reason she couldn't spend the rest of the morning stretched out comfortably on the ground, watching as the sun came up, which she fully intended to do.

Jini yawned loudly and stretched her limbs one at a time. Then, she curled up beside the watering hole, where she'd fallen asleep the previous night and rested her head on both of her paws. As far as she was concerned, today was going to be a good day, as long as she didn't have to do anything she didn't want to.

Taking long, quick strides, the small cub stumbled across unfamiliar ground, it being especially hard with only the tiny sliver of light that shone from the sun.

Shadows stretched out across the land like monsters, in the last breaths of the night grass rippling and their silhouettes scratching at a golden pelt, dulling it to a lighter hue.

All night Nyota'Chali had spent being tracked by some creature thinking him dinner, and all night he'd run from it. Now, the cub had no idea what had been chasing him, but he knew it was there.

Over numerous hills and knolls he'd crossed, and now the male came to rest just as a new day was coming. Quietly, he scented the air. Water.. Just what he needed right now.

There was something so beautiful about this time of day. Dozens of new, morning smells played around her nostrils and Jini found that she liked this time of day so much, the beauty of the sunrise and the scent of the morning, that she actually considered getting up before noon every other day. The young lioness tossed the idea out the window seconds after it fluttered into her head. She knew that she could never go through with it. Sleep was far too dear to her.

Jini yawned again, louder than before, and stood up. Her curiosity had gotten the better of her. She wondered what other types of creatures were up at this hour. It might be worth it to find out. Perhaps, she thought with a playful chuckle, she might even get a good scare out of somebody- one of her sisters or Azima, maybe.

The cub himself preferred the day to night, or morning even. During the day it was bright and the sun was shining, prey were grazing and it was much easier to see one's way around, the cub mused to himself, tripping over a stray stick in the middle of his path. A brown nose wriggled delicately in the air, ears twitching as he tracked his way towards it.

A tongue rolled from his mouth tiredly in a yawn, revealing rows of baby teeth. The sun was rising fast, yet Nyota was looking forwards to sleeping. Grumbling softly, he started forwards once more, intent fully on finding something to drink.

((Sorry, tired and can't think. ^^;; ))

There was an unfamiliar scent in the air. Somebody strange was wandering somewhere nearby. Jini's eyes widened in surprise. She had not met every lion in the Kusini lands, but she was familiar with most of them, and usually recognized the smells of the little patch of the world she liked to call home.

The young lioness stood on a set of strong legs and, with her head held high, started curiously in the direction of the new smell. She wandered along the edge of the watering hole, assuming that whatever it was had come this way in search of the highly coveted liquid.

Just as the young cub reached the edge of the watering-hole he stopped, ducking down instinctively as he heard paw-steps quite close to where he was. Finally, he scented it, ears flicking backwards as Nyota realized he just about walked right into the mouth of another lion. This wasn't good.

Trying to be as still as possible, the cub took a step backwards, stopping immediately as his paw crunched on a piece of grass. That wasn't good either. Now he was stuck, the cub would have to wait until the other lion left to leave himself. Withdrawing his leg and placing it back underneath him, the skinny male hid in the swaying grass, brief flashes of color showing just what he had worried about, another lion was there.

If Jini had merely been looking for a quick drink and not the source of the cub's unfamiliar smell, he might have stood a chance at sneaking away from her. As it was, though, the young lioness continued to follow Nyota's scent, newly laced with fear, until she was almost stepping on the poor, frightened cub.

The adolescent gasped in surprise and, desperate to not totally squash the tiny lion, tripped over her own feet as she darted to the side. Dust flew upwards and sparkled in the light from the slowly rising sun as she landed roughly on her chin.

"Ow," Jini winced through clenched teeth. Damn. It'd been hard to spot him in the half-light, half-darkness that surrounded them.

It was trying to squash him! Immediately the cub sprung up as though he had landed on pins, fur puffing out in fear as he raced away a few paces into the open on of the water-bank, turning just quickly enough to watch the other feline trip over itself. As the larger animal hit the ground Nyota winced involuntarily, realizing how much that had to hurt.

Swallowing, the skinny cub contemplated whether to leave quickly before it could get up again, or stay. Perhaps it was hurt? After a mometn of silence, the male finally made up his choice. "....Ok?" Unable most of the time to form perfect sentences, it was meant as more of a 'Are you ok?', rather than the simple last word.
